Y: The Last man: Alas!

Y: The Last Man is, as of today, officially over. Share your thoughts, feelings, all that mushy goodness.

I'll have to get used to the thought of not expecting a Y issue every month. Vaughn stated that he had two endings in mind; one for the series, and one for the movie. Seeing as how this one ended just perfectly, I'm real curious as to what the other ending would be like.

It's great for my pocket when books I buy end. I really need it to happen more often.

Really, really bittersweet...life goes on, but Yorick never did find his place in the world. I think it's telling that none of Yorick's memories had Beth II. And I guess Beth Deville did choose any port in a storm.

For all the tragedy and loss in this issue(and series), the last page is really a perfect, inspiring ,hopeful end.

This one made me emotional in the way few comics have, aside from Vaughan's own Pride of Baghdad. Sick, wrinkly old Ampersand really got to me, as did Yorick's final flashback to 355. A beautiful end to a fantastic series.

The scene with Ampersand (we all know the one I'm talking about) really made me shed a tear. It was such a great scene and made this last book perfect. I was a little surprised at Yorick's ex and solidified my opinions about her from the end of the series.

I am curious as to the "Daughters of the Revolution" that were mentioned briefly and why they were threatening Yorick. Are they the same group as the Amazons?

Ah, fucking great. Hats off, Mr. Vaughn.

Agree about the ending, Killz.

I agree with the consensus.

A very fitting (and predictably unpredictable) end. Even the little things (like Yorick affectionately and jokingly referring to Ampersand as a "really shitty pet" while he clutched him as he died) were pitch-perfect.

This will go down as one of my favorite comics. I don't think it's Vaughn's best (that would probably be Ex Machina), but it's the comic that got me back into comics and it's never let me down.

Late comments as I've been waiting for the trade and oly just finished it. I've had some ups and downs with the series. Sometimes it felt like it was treading water and the 'spontaneous instantaneous evolution' explanation for the plague was a little dissapointing.

However, by the end it turned out great. They actually give enough explanations for what may have caused it, while maintaining wiggle room, that you can select the one you feel was most likely. And by the end, the reason doesn't seem all that important.

While 355's demise was shocking, it was poor old Ampersand got to me like no other comic in recent memory. However, the flashback at the plane and the final escape were effective at hitting the right tone to end on.

I appreciate that the story starts and ends, that it had a planned story all along . In years to come, the series will be looked upon as a landmark of what is possible with the comic medium.

I just finished tpb #10.

Sad, sad, sad.

Death of Ampersand and 355 just killed me. I don't think I've ever been so affected emotionally by a comic.

What a bittersweet ending, the death of 355 was tragic, Yorick finally found the one he loved and she get's assassinated, Amp's death was no less moving. I found it interesting that Alter only wanted to find Yorick so she could die fighting a man and not another woman, she just wanted to die, period.

Just put the last issue down... and I was taken with how sad I was after it was over. Some really incredible writing on Vaughan's part. I actually went back over the issue so that I could "relive" the pivotal moments. (I'm gonna reread the Alter/355 part from the previous issue because something about that didn't feel quite right, even though Pia's art was spot on.)

To echo what Matt said, Y was what got me back into comics. Glad to see that this story, which at times felt like it was getting away from Yorick, has ended as wonderfully as it began. And in a surprisingly mature way to boot.

This book (and I'm talking about the series as a whole) is so special that I'm almost indifferent to the film. Obviously, I'm excited to see something new, and nervous because I'm unsure about Caruso and Shia. But ultimately I feel indifferent because my favorite parts of Y were the intimate moments, and I don't know if those will really make it onscreen. Alas, for its part as an epilogue, really sums up those small moments well.

I can't believe it's been over a year since the final issue came out. I started rereading Y last week for the first time since the last issue and it's like reading it all over again.

Y is a brilliant series of comic books that I expect will reach Watchmen-type status as years pass.

HOWEVER, there was one flaw and that was that the flashbacks did slow down the story at times. Regardless, this blew everything out of the water and as stated, the reason most of us are back into comics.
