Anyway, not a bad movie. My friend once compared Andy Samberg to Adam Sandler, and despite the same initials, I didn't see the resemblence. But this movie has Billy Madison written all over it. It's a very clear and simple plot about trying to impress one's father (in this case, step-father) it's got the weirder gags, it's got the obvious physical humor, SNL cast members, and there's even a musical number at the beginning of the third act.
The best thing about this movie is the editing. The editing is very smart and scenes are cut at just the right moment, which sometimes turns lame jokes into decent jokes (the malfunctioning fireworks at the beginning of the movie). Also, a lot of the humor is very familiar (especially the tired obsession with 80's cheese) but it often goes in less obvious directions than you'd expect.
Not a bad film, all in all. Not great, but it's entertaining enough to see once.
