Patrick Ripoll - Disorient (2008)

I don't like to pimp my music too hard, since most of it sucks, but I just finished my electronica/mash-up album, "Disorient" and I'm pretty proud of it, so I thought I'd post it for you all to enjoy.

Here's a link to the Zip folder.

The album explores noise a lot, so there's all sorts of static, buzzing, pops, clicks, and white noise throughout. Don't worry, it's not your speakers fucking up, it's completely intentional.

If you like what you hear, check out my myspace(www.myspace.com/patrickripoll). Also, my other two albums, "Open All Winter EP" and "Broken Universe", are available as torrents on the 001 Collective (http://001collective.com/browse.html). "Open All Winter" if lo-fi folk while "Broken Universe" is electronica/pop.

Thanks for checking it out!

Not bad. What programs do you use? Some of those loops sound familiar. Watched the video of you in your space profile. Also, not too shabby. Still downloading your mash-up album. So I have nothing to say about that at the moment.

I use Frooty Loops, but I've sampled all sorts of shit. The Mash-Up video uses the "Amen" drumbreak, a very famous drumbeat from the B-Side of The Winston's 1969 "Color Him Father" single entitled "Amen Brother". It pretty much founded Jungle music. Other drum loops samples come from anywhere from The White Stripes to Steve Miller Band.

Good job, Patrick. I'm digging your stuff.

Ah, good ole' fruity loops. I make most of my stuff in that. Can't go wrong with it. Currently at 84% for the album download. I'm nice and drunk at the moment so I'll try to give a few a whirl.

Ok, so I listened to a few. I'm not a fan of mash-ups at all (it's like going to a rave where people just spin other people's records instead of doing some live shit), but you did pretty good man. Respect.

I have to admit, I'm a total sucker for Mash-Ups. Though if you listen to something like the track "Latent Homotextual" its not anywhere near a traditional "Artist A + Artist B = C" situation. I tried to expand my use of samples as much as I could. Of course, it's not shit you can dance to, but I've never been to a club, so it's not really what I'm going for.

But thank you! I appreciate all the kind comments.

Why does this dingus have to put his name in EVERY thread he starts?

Patrick has no vendetta against you. I would simply caution that you remember that this is another human being with whom you are dealing, one made of flesh and blood, with feelings that can be injured. Are you so unhappy in your own life that you feel the need to drag Patrick down into your misery? Do hateful comments make you feel better about the trivial emptiness of your universe? I will have you know that Patrick has received many positive reps, so your nasty statements go in one ear and out the other. I merely ask this so that you might better understand and heal the hurts in your own life, because you certainly aren't hurting him. God bless.

Justin Clark.

Back on topic: Great job, Patrick. I just wish I hadn't started with Big Furry Monster based on the title, with the volume all the way up. Thought my computer was dying. Then it got groovy, so everything was okay, but, still.

Yeah, I forgot to note, it's definitely best listened to through headphones.

Thank you!

I've never been big on mash-ups, but I dig some of the original electronic stuff, Skitterpip and The Big Furry Monster being my faves. Good job.

The album is now permanently available right here.

You can stream any track from the album, or download them. Up to you.

Congrats, Ripoll. I must concur with them for the most part...it's a good album, with my favorite track being "Every Little Shot She Makes is Sure."

It seems like everyone has a different track as their favorite, which I think is a good sign of having a variety of songs. OR, people just hate it so they pick a song at random. Always a possibility.

Now which is the song mashed up with "99 Problems"? Great album, but that one stuck out as being an ingenious collaboration.

Nevermind, I read the review.

Excellent stuff, Patrick. But I'm a sucker for mashup type stuff. Some really good mixes on here.
