The movie:
Nothing But Trouble. Awful.

The first one that comes to mind is the awesome Four Tops song that opens Grease II.

The Spawn soundtrack is chock full of 'em.

I enjoy Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis' rendition of Cruisin' from the motion picture DUETS. To be honest I've never seen the film so perhaps it's a delightful yarn. But I sure love when the song is played over the FM radio airwaves as I'm taking a bubble bath.

"You're gonna fly away
Glad you're goin' my way
I love it when we're cruisin' together!"

"You Get What You Give" has showed up in four or five awful movies.

A bunch of stuff on the Judgment Night soundtrack is pretty decent, especially the Sonic Youth/Cypress Hill, the Mudhoney/Sir Mix-a-Lot, Teenage Fan Club/De La Soul, and Helmet/House of Pain contributions.

That SATAN!!! song is awesome. It's the only word in the song.

I happen to like the movie, but the MORTAL KOMBAT soundtrack is fucking great.

You forgot Faith No More/Boo-Ya Tribe - Another Body Murdered.

I fucking love that song.

There was a few months spent of my youth where that was the only album I listened to. I actually thought the movie was the greatest thing since walking on two legs and the soundtrack made it even better. When the flick opens with the slo-mo and that Teenage Fan Club/De La Soul song pumping through the speakers it used to give me chills.

I re-watched the movie not too long ago after not having seen it in about 9 years. Holy shit I couldn't make it all the way through. I watched up until the point where Piven bites it and then shut it off.

Soundtrack still rocks all sorts of cocks though.

Holy shit, I've never seen that before. I feel like I'm 15 again.

I would throw in Placebo´s "Every you and every me" from "Cruel Intentions". Though most of my ex-girlfriends would peel my eyes out of my head for that sentence.

"Hurdy Gurdy Man" used in Man of the Year. Oops.

Judgement Night is a shitty movie?

If we're counting Cruel Intentions as a shitty movie*, then "You Could Make a Killing" by Aimee Mann would go in this thread.

Let's not. That movie's hideously underrated, and the soundtrack's part of the reason.

That's why I added the asterisk, mang.

All I know is that somebody got to "Stuck Between Stations" before I could.

The song: Can't Hardly Wait (The Replacements)

'London Calling' in What A Girl Wants.

Agreed on Mortal Kombat.

Queen of The Damned has a one or two decent songs on it. Swordfish is the only techno album I've listened to more than once (though honestly, I enjoy the movie - fuck all).

Rob Zombie has done some great songs for some terrible movies (Daredevil, Escape from LA, arguably The Crow). Be Cool is overhated (crappy, but only so) but G's & Soldiers might be the greatest song in the history of rap*.

And of course.... Tenacious D in: The Pick Of Destiny.

*Don't make me explain this.

I never saw the longer cut of Disturbing Behavior that was supposedly good, but the film(as it was released theatrically) sucked(Nick Stahl was decent though). That said, I really dug "Got You Where I Want You". It was a semi-one hit wonder by some band I cannot for the life of me remember the name of.

Last Action Hero is the king of all bad-movie-but-good-soundtrack movies, at least from a heavy metal perspective.

I give you Megadeth's mighty "Angry Again," Anthrax's "Poison My Eyes" (first song featuring 'new' vocalist John Bush), Def Leppard's big hit ballad "Two Steps Behind," two previously unreleased (and damn fine) Alice In Chains songs, along with decent originals from Queensryche and AC/DC and a nice version of Aerosmith's "Dream On" with Michael Kamen's orchestra.

Great songs, awful movie.

Holy shit, how could I forget "What the Hell Have I" and "A Little Bitter" by Alice in Chains? I dunno, but I did. I sold that soundtrack a few years ago strictly because I can't stand the movie. Wrong move Spunkmeyer, wrong move.

The soundtrack to Tank Girl is like a mid-nineties treasure trove of alternative music.

I also love Tank Girl. I'm that guy.

Danny Boyle's A Life Less Ordinary.
Danny Boyle's The Beach.

Godzilla?

The soundtrack was pretty good. I enjoy the Wallflowers cover of Heroes, and Jamiroquai. P.Diddy with Jimmy Page? not so much.

So far, you win for great song/shitty movie. All the other posts contain great songs on movies that are debatable.

Last Action Hero is a movie that did suck, but I know its an action movie that might have some merits somewhere by somebody other than me.

I also like Tank Girl.

I refuse to mention Hackers because its one of my favorite movies (but I do know that some people think its shitty).

I heart Mortal Kombat.

Never seen "What a Girl Wants."
It's not a song but how about the outstanding opening credits music in The Boondock Saints?
The Disturbing Behavior song is okay. I always hated the "rap" section in the middle, ruined the song. It was The Flys that sang it, I think.

I maintain that without the vocals, Come With Me's a pretty solid, epic update of Kashmir.

The only reason I own the single is because of the instrumental version on the disc.

Also, I thought we were far enough away from it that blind Last Action Hero hate could be pointed out as the misguided thing it is?

First Judgement Night, and now Last Action Hero? You guys have no soul.

I will defend Last Action Hero on my deathbed. Very enjoyable film.

If you've ever seen the 1988 horror called She's Having a Baby (I can almost forgive Kevin Bacon for this since he's awesome in nearly everything else that he touches), it's got a great soundtrack:

Haunted When The Minutes Drag - Love And Rockets
Desire (Come And Get It) - Gene Loves Jezebel
Crazy Love - Bryan Ferry
Apron Strings - Everything But The Girl
This Woman's Work - Kate Bush
One I really like is "In Time" by Mark Collie from The Punisher.

I used to have this on vinyl! Great soundtrack.

By favorite is Kirsty MacColl's cover of "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby".

"Wouldn't It Be Nice" takes centre-stage in 50 FIRST DATES as some sort of key song that unlocks the dark realm pf Drew Barrymore's twisted memory.

MOULIN ROUGE is probably a good contender for this thread. I've only seen bits and pieces, and wanted to die each time. But it has Silly Love Songs in it. Silly Love Songs, people!

There you go - I had it on cassette when it first came out. I never liked the Kristy MacColl song, though. But even with the one or two songs on there that I didn't like, that soundtrack was stacked.

'The Adventures of Ford Fairlane' - It had a couple of good tunes on it, the best probably being Queensryche's 'Last Time in Paris' and Billy Idol's 'Cradle of Love'.

It's a shitty movie, but I have a bit of a soft spot for it...it's a bad movie that I laughed at, God help me.

Old thread, but that song was used in The Nanny Diaries.

I really like "Anytime" by Eve 6 from the Out Cold soundtrack.

The The has a song in Empire Records, which seems to be the Official Favorite Movie of crazy, self-abusive ex-girlfriends everywhere.

Judge Dredd has a pretty good soundtrack. "Judge Yr'self" by the Manic Street Preachers was not included, but was made for the film and pretty awesome.
