Late Night With Conan O'Brien

Since it appears the old thread is lost forever....

Last night's Conan vs John Stewart vs Stephen Colbert throwdown was friggen AWESOME. I lost my shit when Colbert put the trash can over Stewarts head and Conan hit it with a baseball bat.
The 3 of them were on Conan?
The girl and I were laughing pretty hard at the slo-mo punches they were throwing. And the dancing bit. Colbert is a pimp.
If you were watching The Daily Show and then The Colbert Report before Conan, the build up to the fight was fantastic.

Damn I missed that, I'll have to catch the repeats then Tivo the lives for the aftermath.
Oh man, I caught the build up across Colbert & Daily Show, brilliant stuff. Can't wait to see the fight! Glad to hear it was awesome!
Yeah, the build-up was perfect, and the payoff on Conan was a great. Here's a link to the the finale on Conan. And here's to hoping those rumors of a strike settlement happening soon are true.
That...that...makes me almost, ALMOST, believe that there is a God and that He is looking down upon us and smiling.
is conan worth watching with the writer's strike going on? I mean i love conan and letterman but it just doesn't feel the same knowing the writer's are striking and both guys are "winging" it.
Since I couldn't find the Colbert Report thread:

There are so many great little moments in that fight.

Stewart's weird facial expression as he hits Conan repeatedly with the bat, Colbert's reaction to being tossed down the stairs, the final Rocky III homage.

The entire thing is more cartoonish then most animated shows on the air right now.

Letterman has had his writers for almost a month. Leno is still beating him in the ratings, though, proving that Leno's show doesn't suffer for a lack of writers. It couldn't get worse.
Well I actually think Conan has been better since they lost the writers.

I agree. His first two or three nights back from the strike, with the camcorder stuff - brilliant.
For my part, Conan's weak spots were usually the really poorly done sketches. The fact that they can't do those really makes it more enjoyable. The Daily Show and Colbert Report are definitely lacking without writers.

I thought Stewart was kinda rough at start, but he's gotten more confident since then and it feels fine. His strength was always interviews anyway. Colbert I've barely felt a difference. I've really loved the tone of time wasting on all three shows, but that can't last forever. I think all three made the best of a shitty situation, but it will be nice to get back to quo.
If last night's episode was anymore awesome, it wouldn't be visible to the human eye.
The best thing about the writers strike is the Stewart/Coblert/Conan battle...which was great.

I agree and mentioned it earlier in this thread. If a comedian is talented enough, having a bunch of writers dictate his humor will make things worse.

It's cool that the Paris Hilton jokes are back, I really missed those.

All i want is for Conan to bring back the red lever with the random Walker, Texas Ranger clips....Is that too much to ask???

ok...how the hell did this Jordan guy not beat the crap outta Conan at the restaraunt...

and am I the only one that has noticed Conan has been very vanilla for the past 2 months or so....I guess he's starting to move into "Tonight Show" mode...you know playing it safe...
HOLY SHIT, Jimmy Fallon is fucking DYING on live tv right now. They're going to take the show away from him on the basis of these two segments.

It hurts to watch.

Final Show Tonight. Tis a sad night...

The Masturbating Bear in carbonite the other night was pretty great.
They started running the show on a cable network down here. And i've been really enjoying it these past couple of months. I'll get tonight's show.
I'm so excited about the White Stripes being on tonight
post #33 of 142
Tonight we say goodbye to Conan as we know him. I almost don't want to watch him on the Tonight Show because I really have grown up watching Conan O'Brien, and I don't want to see him get screwed by a watered down talk show format that Jay Leno has made synonymous with the Tonight Show.

They keep insisting that they are gonna let "Conan be Conan" especially with Leno still having a show on before Conan. But that remains to be seen.

My question is...will Max and the band be going with Conan to the Tonight Show? I don't think I've read it definitivley one way or the other. And with Bruce doing a spring/summer tour I dunno if they would want to launch Conan's run without the Band leader.
Has Andy stopped by at all this week? If not, tonight would be the night, I guess.

I'm happy for Conan personally, but I'm really going to miss the anarchy of Late Night. I hate that he's competing with Dave, too.

I *heard* that Max wasn't making the move, but I have nothing concrete to go along with that.

On April 12, 2008, the New York Post reported that The Max Weinberg 7 will move to Los Angeles to join O'Brien on "The Tonight Show" sometime in 2009.[2] O'Brien confirmed this on Inside the Actors Studio as well as on the February 18, 2009 episode of Late Night.
Good news, if true.
If y'all had been watching this week, you would have seen him openly say that Max and the band were coming with him.

It just wouldn't be the same without La Bamba.
I wonder if S & M Lincoln will be allowed on at 11:30.

Um, you know they've let Carson Daly have a show there for like 8 years, right?

I'm glad I heard wrong! I love Max.

God how I hate NBC. Youtube clips are down after 2 days max. And I can't even watch SNL or other stuff from their official clips, cause they are autoblocked and aren't available in my backass country called Germany.
Love it how they treat their audience. How am I supposed to watch this crap then? It's not like there is a dubbed version after a few weeks and even if there was, who cares about Late Shows after a few weeks?!
This week has been awesome. It made me realize how much of a nerd I am that I saw most of the things they're rerunning during their original airing.

They've done a great job of rerunning old clips this week, some of my favorites:
Aforementioned masturbating bear segment (I seriously wanted to cry, I will miss that guy. Somehow it never got old.)
Shooting guns with Hunter S. Thompson
Apple orchard with Mr. T
Clive Clemons' Inappropriate Response channel
The legendary clip of Triumph at the Episode II opening
Reran some of the Finland segments ("Fagstrom, I know you're in there!")
And of course, the greatest Walker Texas Ranger clip of them all, little Haley Joel Osment blurting out "Walker told me I have AIDS"

I saw they brought back Shoeverine last week, but I'm still holding out hope that the Coked-Up Werewolf makes an appearance, and maybe Fed-Ex Pope. And yeah, Andy Richter better show his ass. Poor guy, Late Night is one of the few funny things he's ever been a part of.

I'm really going to miss those segments they used to do all the time of Conan narrating a series of photographs of he, Max and Joel hanging out that usually ended up with people getting their heads punched off by someone like Bruce Springsteen.
Or when the state quarters were getting released, and Conan showed the discarded ideas which included Dennis Quaid ripping off Mickey Mouse's head and punching Donald Duck in Disneyland.

I don't know, I've always liked this one with the dad from Wonder Years.
I really enjoy "The Weather Channel After Dark" and "Joe's Place".
Wow, I had never seen that one. That is the most fucked up clip ever. I love Conan's reaction.
Joel is awesome.

http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66...068ee05a4b760a

Does anyone have the clip of Joel and his multiple personalities?
Did anyone watch the other night when Conan gave La Bamba's podium to an audience member? Just as he raised the axe to cut the mic cords you can hear a producer yell out "Conan, no!"

I didn't watch the show very often but it was always really good. I don't see how NBC wil let "conan be conan" like they're claiming.

Yeah, that clip is a blast.

I hardly ever watch late-night gab fests anymore, but I'll be tuning in tonight.
