Late Night With Conan O'Brien - Page 2

"L.A.'s gonna eat you alive" was pretty funny, as was releasing Vigoda into the wild. It's the first time I've seen this 1864 baseball thing, too.
The 1864 baseball footage was great especially that shy woman he kept bugging.

That was an act. Probably some drama school chick working on her method.
That chick was very, very good at not breaking character.

Ferrell Bush Strip Tease!

Yeah but you could tell there were a few times she was on the verge of losing it.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but the Ferrell/Bush live HBO special, when it airs, is a can't miss. It's probably as funny as Talladega Nights and very R-rated.

Well yeah I'm not a dummy, but it was still funny especially when she said her father was dead.

Andy returns!

Yeah, I actually thought she played it pretty well. Definitely held her own but her committal came off as student actress.
That clip of the pimped out Conan with the fur-covered car and phone is one of my favorite things ever. The Rolanda clip with Andy was great, too.
The Jim Carrey and Ken Burns bits in the retrospective killed me.
I'd forgotten about the Sorkin parody with Schreiber as Conan and "Detective Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich." That's the stuff that I hope makes it to Tonight.
If there's one thing I'm looking forward is the replacement of those atrocious Jaywalking segments with Conan's remotes. It's those that will make the show for Leno's "audience". I love all the bits over the years but some of the most memorable things (for me) have been the stuff he's done outside of the studio.
That fucking guitar delay was so annoying.

"I just can't hear the laughter any more."

Also, Conan playing 1860s baseball and getting into character.

"What source of demonry is that?!"
That was a great few minutes of television at the end. Good for Conan.
I love that the old-timey Baseball bit was Conan's favorite because it's always been one of mine. I love the assurance that we're going to get this same greatness when he moves to The Tonight Show.

And I'm not worried about silly "Jaywalking" segments or anything like that. Los Angeles is going to be a great big new playground for Conan and I think he's going to have a lot of fun with it.
I really liked "we're in the toilet now, so why not" re: NBC and "let me assure you, that is not going to happen" when it comes to Conan growing up. He didn't have to be that nice or devote that much time to Jay Leno, but he did, which is why he's all class. I haven't watched Conan in months before tonight, but I watched it all the time in college and just out of school. I watch a lot of tv, but this is the first time in a while where I can say it's going to be weird not having Conan doing the show, and even weirder not hosting it in New York.
I've been watching this show since I was in fifth grade, it really shaped my sense of humor.
Yeah, I remember watching Conan on my shitty TV in my room during jr. high and high school. Great last episode. I've seen that awesome baseball things several times and I still lose it in two places: when she says her father died and running from the plane.

Honestly, though, I think I'm gonna miss the B and C list celebrities most. He would occasionally have a a lister, but it was folks like Bierko that made the show good. I've been talking to people at work since the Jay Leno announcement about Conan, and I've found it weird how they all hate his show because of his interviews, because he talks so much. And I get that, but that's what made them so great. I wasn't about their shitty new movie or their new TV show, it was about Conan trying to make the audience interested is some star they've never heard of and having fun. I hope he's allowed to continue the route come June.
No more SNL people thet're easy to get and normally good guests.
I thought it was interesting how he didn't mention Fallon, like, at all.
The reason I have shitty sleeping habits can be traced back to this show. From 96-2000 this show was Simpson's golden era good.

Favorite bits and guests from the Andy years...

-Roger Ebert.

This guy was gold on Conan and Ebert on the Aisle. I remember the episode where they had this old female erotica director as the second guest. "I am sorry that my movie made you sexually frustrated, Roger"

-Conan and Andy are doing a parody of an 80's action film. Andy says "It is just two days until I retire". They laugh and then the thing goes into slow motion. It ends with "MAX...YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

-Pimpbot!

Yeah, I was hoping to see this again...one of my favorite bits.

Helluva final show.

Loved the long shout out to Letterman, in fact his whole closing monologue was fantastic.

Ferrell was good. Richter was good. Great seeing Conan pimped out in fur and all the old clips.

Here's hoping the Masturbating Bear opens his first Episode of the Tonight Show.

Secrets...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kazjmb4L2wk

They don't have the Gweneth Paltrow one where she says that she is actually a dude.

"I apologize to any guy who has ever whacked off to me"

Conan comes back from the clip with...

"Apology Accepted"
Conan became a sort of God to me when he introduced the Walker, Texas Ranger lever. My favorite was the clip where the guy urges the kid to jump and he'll catch him and then moves out of the way. Conan jumps out of the chair, hands over his mouth as he's laughing in shock.

And with Andy dead on the desk. There was also another one where Conan was skeet shooting and then somehow Andy gets shot.

There was also this one bit where Conan goes on some talkshow because Andy would dress too sexily. This consisted of tight black leather shorts and a half shirt that said "Lick" on it.

Conan hulking out and then acting nonchalant afterwards.

"Look at what you made me do."

And him interviewing Clinton.

"I didn't ask her to lie under deposition. I asked her to lie in that position."

Jingle All The Vay!!

Ah yes, the #1 Comedy smash hit JINGLE ALL THE VAY!!!!!
The old timey baseball is always great.
"This one's for you, Nell!"
Shame nobody didn't think to hunt that girl down and have her in character surprise Conan on the show.
Cant believe no Triumph on the final show.

Sorry but I have to correct this for the record:

"I didn't ask her to lie under deposition. I asked her to lie dere in dat position!"

I had also never seen 1864 baseball...and wow, I was instantly smitten with Shy Girl. I want to go to there.

Well, it was a great run. See you on the other side, ConeBone.
ConeBone69 was his screen name when Chris Hansen busted him in a Dateline sketch.
Never thought I would see Meg holding a guitar. Sweet of them though to play Conans favorite song.
Late Nite was my show from 10-18. Haven't really watched it in a while.

But that final speech actually choked me up. I'm going to be tuning in to The Tonight Show
post #89 of 142
Another thing I loved about the 1864 baseball bit, was the random shot of Conan playing the banjo for shy girl.
That last segment made me choke too. And i've only been watching for a few months.
I'll look forward to what he does with The Tonight Show.
I'd never seen the 1864 baseball bit, either. "He's passed," and then Conan losing it killed me.

It's going to be weird having to choose between Dave and Conan. Yes, yes, I realize what with the Hulus and the DVRs and what have yous I won't really have to choose, but you know what I mean.
All hail Suck 'n' Blow With Rebecca Romijn, which ended up being the last clip of the last show. An inarguable classic, but I was hoping for Andy's Sting Operation. I missed a couple nights this week-- did they run that one at all?
Excellent last episode. Ill admit, as I grew up and moved into the real world I saw less and less of Conan, versus College and high school where it was pretty much nightly viewing.

he really spoke to my sense of humor and definitely gave off his own vibe.

The ending monologue was excellent, but I really enjoyed his tribute to Letterman. Conan has always respected the guy and genuinely admired him. In all this Leno moving to 10 and conan moving up mess, people are forgetting just how damn good Letterman STILL is.

I really hope Dave has Conan on the show in the next couple months. When J. Stewart openly thanked Dave for being Dave during the emmy's right after Carson died, Letterman immediately had him on the show. I am hoping network politics aside, Conan will be a first guest on the Late Show soon
post #94 of 142
I'm really upset that I missed the show last night, but am going through all the stuff on Hulu. (I'd never seen the entirety of Triumph's visit to the AOTC line. Glorious.)
hey jim, the late night portion of nbc.com has the entire episode up
post #96 of 142
so out of curiosity, i looked up dave's last show at NBC and its eerie how similar conan's last show was.

It looks like he almost did an homage to it, down to the big still of all the staff to the ending monologue.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NnrXKxOHkw

One thing was really different though, Dave had Bruce on who fucking rocked the house, while the White Stripes were shit.
I'm not gonna lie, I got choked up during Conan's farewell address, especially when his voice kept breaking.

We got clips of both of these last night. Brilliant stuff. The LICK shirt made me LOL/cringe.

Loved the clip show as a great way for Conan to go out on. 1864 Baseball was hysterical as were most of the clips that he showed.

One thing I have to disagree with some of you on is Conan's transistion to 11:30 pm. It kills me to say this but I really think NBC is going to make him tone down his show considerably. I was a HUGE fan of Conan's predecessor Letterman and when Dave left to CBS he left behind many of the things that made him Dave. Don't get me wrong I still love Dave and I have always watched him over Leno, but Dave's show is nowhere near what it was when it was Late Night.

I can't wait to see what Conan does with the Tonight Show! I only hope he's not censored and given free reign.

BTW, if you've never seen the HBO movie The Late Shift I highly, highly recommend it. Great film about the "late night war" that erupted between the Letterman and Leno camps and NBC's mad scramble to find a replacement for The Tonight Show host in the aftermath of Johnny Carson's announcement that he would be retiring.
