NCAA Recruiting Classes (Football)

I find it very interesting that USC slid out of the top 10 (recruits worried about fallout from the Reggie Bush scandal) and that Alabama took the number one spot.

Far more surprising, however, is Notre Dame's appearance at number two. Don't they seem to have a top five recruiting class every year? Anyone seen the talent on the field recently?

link?

No excuses for Charlie next year.

Recruiting classes are like a box of chocolates...well, you know the rest. FSU is #7, so that's good, I guess. It was interesting that three of the top 5 schools had losing seasons last year. Top 10 classes from Rivals.com (currently):

1. Alabama
2. Notre Dame
3. Florida
4. Miami
5. Oklahoma
6. Georgia
7. Florida State
8. Ohio State
9. Michigan
10. USC

Lane Kiffin is no longer USC's recruiting coordinator so no wonder why they're not in the top 10....no but really, USC have something like 6 out of the top 100 players in the 2009 class already committed - Matt Barkley, the #1 prospect, being one of them. Reggie Bush has nothing to do with anything.

Florida is pinning its hopes on Moody - no RB signees (at least on paper) at all, and a couple decommitted late, including a local Savannah kid who seems to think pretty highly of himself to go to Georgia Southern instead. Otherwise, a pretty solid class, including the first signed kicker in recent memory.

PSU is making a last ditch effort to woo Terrelle Pryor away from Ohio State and Michigan. JoePa even dusted off his traveling shoes to visit the QB at his home. Reportedly, Pryor's father is pushing hard for him to head to dear old State, but he's not going to commit until April. Personally, I'd love to see a Pennsylvania player stay in Pennsylvania, but, realistically, what blue chip QB is going to go with a football program where (1) the future is shrouded in mystery, and (2) as a QB, he's probably looking at 2 years--at best-- as a starter.

Other than that, PSU's recruiting class blows. They're giving some of their (few) scholarships to one-star defensive linemen...

*Sigh*

Penn State, why can't I quit you?

Alabama was 7-6.

By the way, Roll motherfucking Tide.

Sorry, I thought they were 6-6. Which still makes my statement inaccurate. I go to the ESPN school of journalism. How about we say "disappointing" seasons.

I'll give you that.

ESPN's Scouts, Inc. rankings had USC at #6, but whatever, recruiting 'rankings' are shaky at best.

I think you can attribute USC's 'slip' to a lack of skill players in this year's class, it's mostly linemen for the Trojans (which makes sense considering their glut of talent at RB and QB).

If you're still looking for a potentially more nefarious reason...well, Carroll's NFL flirtations may be having a negative impact on recruiting.
