Actually only the sequels were shot in 2.35. The first was 1.85. And as many times as I've seen all four of them, I've only ever seen LW4 in widescreen (because I saw it in the theater).

I like LW3 a lot but don't find it to be a particularly good film. It started to get bogged down in that kitchen sink approach that plagued LW4. Although I did like Murtaugh's gangbanger shooting story line quite a bit, how he becomes the cop on the ragged edge out for vengeance.

Lethal Weapon 3 fucking sucks. Most of all for the stupid yin-yang jacket Pesci wears for the hockey scene. The bad guy was ok though.

"Now we got a relationship we can BUILD ON!!!"
*troll laughter*

The breakout character of part 3 was the fake cat that Murtaugh carries under his arm while running away from the building about to go up.

LW3 gets by on Riggs and Russo's chemistry which was refreshing for a guy who kept getting his girlfriends killed. I also liked the flaming construction area climax.

You would not believe how batshit crazy the city of Orlando went the night they blew up the old City Hall for the LW3 teaser. It on live television, all THREE local networks! * wailing tax dollars*

I dragged my folks to see this on the first day, and I was 8 years old.

I had a blast watching it, and I still enjoy the flick. The housing shootout is great, and so are the dog biscuits. I also loved that Roger couldn't retire in the end. If this one had been the last one, it would have been a great ending, but then we got 4, and that one's just as good. Plus an ass kicking Rene Russo is an interesting thing to watch.

I watched the Murtaugh's horse cock scene today after getting "Lethal Weapon Fever".

What the hell? Is this how black families behave? He isn't even having a bubble bath to conceivably hide his horse cock. And what police force would accept having a detective with a horrible scrappy beard like that?

And Riggs' wife was ugly.

Lethal Weapon 3 is excrement and while I have fond memories of Jet Li in 4 thats about it. 1 and 2 are well deserved classics. 3's got Farina sleepwalking through it and makes me not wonder whatever happened to Pesci.

*jolting strings as Gibson hangs off a tow-truck*

PS - am I incredibly immature to have giggled like a loon with every "*wailing sax*" and only found it funnier the more I read it? Eh - its the end of my working week here.

It's not up to par with the first two and Stuart Wilson's a weak villain, but it's a lot of fun.

It has some great action scenes like the opening car chase, the motorcycle on the unfinished freeway, and the ending shootout. I like the Riggs-Murtaugh character moments like the bomb opening, jaywalking and the part on the boat. Russo's also great and she's got chemistry with Gibson. No matter how irrelevant Pesci is to the story, I always get a kick out of him telling the potential buyers about the various incidents at Murtaugh's house and his rectal exam always makes me giggle. Nick Chinlund's also great as the slick-haired henchman.

"Another one, we need a new fucking dog".

Intersting/uninteresting sidepoint: my drama teacher at film school played one of Arjen Rudd's henchmen in LW2. He's the one who hangs about aimlessly in the background and for one shining moment, gets to look at Danny Glover and say "Kaffir!"

Apparently he still gets sent a royalty check every couple of months.

*mournful guitar twangs as Glover realises the boy he killed was only 16... 16!"*

Was he the one with the mullet and mustache?

How exactly does that work? Does he get a check every time it plays on TV? I honestly have no idea how film royalties work. Does the guy who played the convenience store clerk in Die Hard get cut a check every couple months as well?

The first time I saw Lethal Weapon 3, I was taken aback by the thug funeral scene. Some teen is firing on cops with an automatic machine gun, and Murtaugh kills him. The mother then slaps Murtaugh when he offers his condolences at the funeral, and says he should "find the man that put the gun in my son's hand." The scene is played absolutely straight, as though the woman's anger at Murtaugh as completely justified.

I was also totally surprised when I heard that. You wouldn't think that a bit actor would get paid royalties... But he gets like 20 cents or something every time it plays, and those eventually add up. It's not very much, but for just hanging around and saying "Kaffir", it's probly worth it.

I think he had a mullet, not sure about the mustache though.

No. I watched LW1 today, and it's amazing how often they use *wailing sax* and *plaintive guitar twang*, and it was a laugh-riot throughout.

Lethal 1 and 2 are fantastic action movies. Lethal 3 and 4 ... not so much. Although I much prefer 4 over 3. Jet Li is a infinitely better villain than that douchebag from 3 (although still not up to "diplomatic immunity" or Mr. Joshua standards), and that scene with Leo and Riggs at Riggs' wife's grave is almost touching.
My favorite part of Lethal Weapon part 2 is how focused Riggs is on raping the villains. IM GONNA FUCK EM ROG, IM GONNA FUCK THEIR ASSES!!! IM GOING NOW!!
I always got a kick out of how one of the final chapters on the LW2 DVD is actually titled "Dekaffirnated."

*George Harrison's "Murtaugh/Riggs love theme"*
post #71 of 165
Its the power of Murtaugh and Riggs' love that allowed Riggs to survive the 18 gunshot wounds he got at the end of LW2
post #72 of 165
LW3 is a piece of crap, but my favorite parts involve laziness.

-Police Chief Kahan gets kidnapped by the villian and makes no attempt to escape or put up a fight. 'AWWWWW come on Travis!'

-At the end, the bad guy hops on a slow moving construction vehicle and tries to run down Riggs down while screaming. For some reason Riggs doesn't even try to get out of the way. He just sits there and shoots at Travis desperately!

As far as retarded Murtaugh grumblings go, that scene has my favorite. Because they actually managed to make his mumblings part of a Nike campaign!

And after that the killing of his friend was all just water under the bridge.

Well he made up for killing Nick's friend with that questionable and highly erotic shaving scene later on.

yeh nick... thats good...
But my all time favorite scene in any of the four movies is when McAllister and a cronie are about to make their escape and they open their garage door just in time to see a disheveled, hobo-looking Murtaugh (wearing wifebeater) stumble into the alley. "Kill that cop son of a bitch!"

*sensual saxophone*
No way you live. No way.
The best thing about McAllister's death is the look on the face of the bus driver that smashes the General's car. He totally thinks he's gonna get fired for that.
I know this was the movie that caused the nation to take pause and truly consider the potential of terrorists strapping bombs to their toliets.

SPOILER: Fuck this movie.

I like how in a twisted tribute to Nick's dead gangbanger friend, Murtagh uses the kid's UZI to kill people.

Which made the uniformed Riggs and Murtaugh look even more out of line when they bullied the jaywalker. It seemed in really bad taste at the time.

I don't have a use for ANY of the Lethal Weapon sequels. Once Riggs decided he didn't want to kill himself anymore the story was over. The sequels are stories about characters who used to be interesting but have since got on with their lives.

I always wondered: what sort of car does McAllister have? He appears to be in the front seat, but is facing sideways and there's no steering wheel.

My favourite Glover line delivery, besides the gratuitious and hilarious yehyehmybirthday part, is when Riggs has vanished at the end of LW4 and Murtaugh uses his psychic link to locate him.

RIGGS!!!!

I love that stupid group of cops from LW2 that we obviously were supposed to care about but it totally didn't work. Look at the phony rapport they have.

Listen up everybody, Roger's daughter Rhiannaeenae is in a commercial tonight

Cop 1: EYYYY ALRIGHT ALRIGHT!!!!!!
My favorite Murtaugh moment came in LW1. After Gary Busey got the snot kicked out of him by RIGGS!, Murtaugh yells: "Get that shit off my lawn!" Considering Busey's relationship with cocaine, that's probably not the last time he heard that.
