Street Fighter IV

Thread Starter
After seeing the new images of Street Fighter IV on Gamespot.com I decided to bring back my original Street Fighter IV thread. Today is the first day that any other fighters besides Ryu and Ken were shown. While there is no indication that Street Fighter IV will arrive in 2008 in the USA, it is being released in Arcade's in Japan in the summer of 2008.

I fully expect Street Fighter IV to regain the title as Best Fighting Game on any platform when it is released in stores.

Gamespot is blocked by my work filter, stick some pics in your post! What fighters does it show? Is there a final character list? Is DAN in it, because DAN is supreme.

DETAILS, fleed!

Trejo, I am sorry I am unable to post images...it's something I don't know how to do.

However...Chun Li, Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Guile, Crimson Viper ( a new character, no relation to Cobra Soldiers) Zangief, The Sumo and the character from India, I cannot remember their names.

Capcom will release the rest of the character list at the AOU arcade convention in a few weeks.

Trejo, Try going to the-magicbox.com as well.

E. Honda and Dhalsim?

Wierd, all classic SF2 characters except this Crimson Viper joker. Does sound like a reject from Cobrala. Hopefully not as forgettable as the SF3 characters..

I don't know how to post images either. The original eight are confirmed, I'm sure the rest are newbies.

So far I'm not too excited by these images. I hate images that show the game from extreme angles and not actual gameplay. Show us what the hell we will be playing, dammit!

Thanks JB, you really are my hero!

I have no clue what to think of the graphics at this point.. I mean, the environments look great and all. The fighters look like rejects from Crackdown: The Fighting Game. Mostly in regards to the thick black lines around all the characters, very comic book-y. Certainly a big step up from the EX series, anyway.

This really is something that needs to be seen in motion and/or played to judge properly..

Is this set to be 3D or 2D?
I thought I read it was 3d models fighting on a 2d plane, but don't quote me on that.. can't reference any gaming sites at work.
There were videos showing this thing in motion on 1UP a few months back. It wasn't impressive. The new pictures aren't changing my mind on that.

The gameplay better be sharp as the T-1000's dick if it hopes to have a chance in the current market.

That is correct.

They really need to start showing some other venues. Maybe they shouldn't be creating all this press when the game is only 15% finished. It's not like people are NOT going to be excited about a true Street Fighter sequel.

.
Not that I was blown away or anything, but what were you hoping it would be? Something other than a Street Fighter game? It's a (hopefully) responsive and well-balanced 2D fighter with an emphasis on special attacks and short, quick combos.
Capcom should just pick up the now-available Marvel license and do Marvel vs Capcom 3.

I don't know about Justin, but I was expecting the peak of 2D hand-drawn fighters. Street Fighter III looked pretty great, but I know they could push the animation further.

While this is kind of neat I guess, it just feels like more of a side-project like SF Alpha or SF: the Movie. If it plays great(which I'm sure it will), awesome, but the 2D art style IS Street Fighter to me.

Maybe young people won't take to 2D nowadays(damn I sound old), but if it's spectacular 2D I think there's a good chance.

Sounds good to me. Well unless it looks like this.
Hand-drawn. The only way it should be.

As for Street Fighter 4, I appreciate them trying to keep the series relevant. Better animation wouldn't do it. However, I don't think the graphics look that good, an opinion shared by those who have actually played it.

Maybe I'm just becoming an old fart, but I don't see 16-bit graphics ever looking bad. PS1 games on the other hand...

To be honest? I don't know. I think at least some of my problems with getting same old same old with the gameplay (at least from first glance) could be alleviated if everything about the character design didn't look like bad fan art, but there's no reason Capcom couldn't have done something, ANYTHING new with the gameplay in this day and age, and the footage gives me every indication Capcom hasn't. It is early, though, so I've got some faith that they've got something up their sleeve worth getting excited over.

I have doubts, though.

Scott, While good graphics are impressive...there are many older games that are fun because the programmers recognized a game had to be fun as well as look good. I have been playing video games since I received my first game system...The Mattel Intellivision. I also bought the Intellivision collections on the ps1 and Xbox. Old games never go out of style.

Just saw this in motion on X-Play and those screen shots don't do this game justice at all.
The animations are very smooth and fluid. And the fire effects looked even better.
It's similar to the criticism people had with the Metroid Prime 3 screenshots. Those didn't give an accurate portrait of the game compared to how it looked in motion.

I agree. I saw some gameplay videos on gamespot and it looks real nice. I still don't like the look of the characters but I'll be looking out for this anyways.

I love the facial expressions (even if a bit over-the-top); it's something simple that I've been wanting in fighting games for a long time.

street fighter is great. they need to keep these going.

Gamespot has the new Street Fighter IV trailer seen at the AOU show. It looks absolutely aweinspiring.
Gave this thread a much needed bump.

Pre-ordered the Collector's Edition of this for my Xbox. Can't wait.
In motion I think this game looks sweet - can't wait to play it. In addition to the new people, it looks like the everyone from super SF 2 is back except for Dee Jay and T. Hawk. Dan is in, along with at least one character from SF Alpha - Rose. The final boss in this one looks pretty goofy (his abdomen is a yin-yang symbol).

Street Fighter IV will easilly be...My favorite game of 2009, as it is not only The Best Of The Best, fighting game, but this sequel to SF II is the true...King Of The Fighters (not to disparage SNK, But they are clearly 2nd to Capcom, when making fighting games.) Ok, I am confused...is Seth aka the final boss the abandoned clone of Dr. Manhattan (of Watchmen fame, whom nearly broke up the love affair of Dr M, and Silk Spectre II?) I also pre-ordered the...Street Fighter IV collector's edition. I am excited for the Soundtrack for Street Fighter IV as well as the Anime film, but why include that Crimson Viper figurine instead of Chun Li, Cammy, Ryu, Sagat et al? Well...at least the figure included wasn't Rufus...or the collectors edition box would have been HUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!
The OXM review of this was very positive, they gave it a 9.5/10. But no matter how good this is, I just don't play fighting games like I used to, so can't justify this game at $60. Perhaps after a few price drops. As far as the collector's edition, the PS3 version gets the Ryu figurine.
I kinda feel that way about all games these days - $60 is a big chunk of change, and if you're patient, it doesn't take long for games to hit the 30-40 mark. It's not like I don't have other things to play in the meantime.

Sorry - don't mean to threadjack. I am looking forward to this, but I wish Capcom would update some of these characters appearances, just to shake things up. Give Ryu a beard. Shave Ken's head. Give Zangief some pants for god's sake.
I know the feeling. But SF IV will only be the second game that I have bought brand new for my 360 (the first being Left 4 Dead).

As for the costumes, the Collector's Edition supposedly has a code that will unlock new ones for the characters to use. I hope it's new clothes.
I want to get this game, but since I also want to buy the new SF4 controllers it means I'd have to spend $100 to buy the game plus the controller. That's a hefty amount to spend on a game, even if it's SF4. But I'm not sure if I can wait until it drops to $30-40 range though.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer a decent game pad to a joystick on fighting games. I find them easier and faster. I can pull a dragon punch consistently with a d-pad, not so with an arcade stick.
This might be the first cross-platform I buy on PS3 rather than 360.

1) The D-pad on the 360 sucks shit for trying to play fighting games. I just limped my way through DC vs MK in unspectacular fashion

2) Both collectors editons come with a new 65 minute animated film. PS3 gets it on a seperate bluray with its own packaging. 360 gets it on a specially formated (not a regular dvd) game disk.

3) A Ryu figure vs Crimson Viper ?!?

On the other hand, I prefer achievements to trophies (not that I'll get much for SFIV either way, if its more of that 'win 100 online ranked matches' bullshit) and a vastly larger xbox friends list to play with.

I just want my cake and to eat it too.
The only reasons I'm getting it for the 360 is because of XBL and achievements. If it weren't for that it would probably be the first game I actually bought for my PS3.
I'm torn between which system to get it on. I hardly ever play online with my PS3 and I have way more friends on my 360, but the PS3 version sounds better.
I have zero friends on my PS3 because I don't even have a game for it. Street Fighter IV just feels like it should be played on the PS3, though. If that makes any sense.

That sounds about right. There are rumors of SF IV looking better on Xbox360 than on the PS3 over at gamespot.com though. I'm sure it's bull, though. Don't recall where I read it exactly, but I remember coming across that more than once. But yeah... the PS D-pad is much better than the 360's for Capcom fighters. Unless you're planning on buying one of those sweet but overpriced fighting gamepads made for SF IV.

Anyhow...

I found SF IV: Collector's Edition over at deepdiscountdvd.com for 70 plus free shipping. That's ten bucks cheaper than Amazon.com and Gamestop. There's no description for the game though. It does not mention all the bells and whistles that come with the CE. My q is, have you guys bought from this place before? Is it legit? Any bad stories? Do they ship stuff out early (one of my friends says so)? I'm about to say fuck it and just order it. I'll hate waiting for it to come in as opposed to picking it up the day of release at gamestop and 10 bucks isn't that big a difference really but fuck... 80 is alot to pay for a new game.
hrmm. anybody? hello-o-o
Sorry, never used them.

I pre-ordered this through GameStop. So when I pick it up in 2 weeks, I think I'm supposed to get a Ryu bandana with my Collector's Edition.
Deep Discount DVD can have some great deals, but their shipping is slow. I assume they are the same with games as DVDs. Is ten bucks saved worth a possible long wait?

maybe for any other game. for SF IV. No way.
If I find a 20 percent off coupon somewhere on the net tho...

Yeah, I think you will be fine on Feb. 17. You'll be able to pick up a Collector's Edition in the store.

Yes, and a nice detailing of how to do the various counters and supers.
I don't know if I'm willing to blow $60 on this, but I must say, I've softened quite a bit to the game in recent weeks.

If for no other reason than it looks way better than MK vs DC.

X-Play's Preview of the Characters of SFIV (Part 1)

Part 2

Some nice gameplay footage, and I didn't even know some of the old school SF characters were in this. Gen from Street Figher Alpha 3? Yes.
Played a pirated copy (I think) at a friend's house. I can't wait 'til release day. The game is f-ing gorgeous to watch and satisfies in terms of gameplay. The super moves are extremely satisfying to unleash.

...

Although as far as looks go, Capcom vs. Tatsunoko made me eye-gasm harder.
IGN seemed to love it, and as much as I suck in fighting games I reserved this and am looking forward to getting decent at it.
