Street Fighter IV - Page 2

Wow - I'm hearing the date for this pushed back two days...is that true?
asked my friend who works at gamestop. says they're receiving the shipment on Tues the 17th but depending on the time, they may not have it out on shelves 'til the 18th. hrm.
The local Gamestop here told me they wouldn't sell it till Wednesday either. Same thing happened with F.E.A.R 2 last week.
Gotta decide which system to get this for, like many I might just go with the PS3. Although, many games which are supposedly identical, look a little better on the 360, the colors almost always look more vibrant.
I've only heard of 2 games looking better on Xbox 360: Fallout 3 and NBA 2k9.
Regardless, unless you're gonna throw down an extra $40 in getting a Hori fighting arcade stick or one of those spiffy capcom controllers with a functioning dpad, you're gonna wanna go with the ps3. I played a pirated version for the 360 and as expected, it wasn't always easy pulling off dragon punches and super moves with ease consistently on an xbox dpad.
I was planning on eventually getting the game pad, not straight away, simply because a friend of mine made a very convincing case as to how all the players with sticks and specialized pads are going to own the players using the native controllers. Are the capcom controllers identical on the 360 and ps3? Just not sure I should get the capcom controller, I mean its just a glorified version of a 15 year old game. Oh but how glorious it looks.
Check your GameStop locations, because some of them have the game right now. Someone on my XBL friends list has it and said he just picked it up today.

Headed to the store right now...
Yep, my Gamestop had it in stock here. The game is friggin' awesome.

I dunno.. something about SF4 doesn't feel right. I been playing it at a mates place and it just feels like SFEX2 with better graphics and art design.

I think its just something about moving from 2d to 3d. It just doesn't feel "correct" for street fighter.

I prefer the HD remix to this.
I'm having my ass handed to me on a regular basis. I've never played any SF game very much so this is kinda all new to me. Would it be worth it to get the strategy guide?
Shit no. All the moves are in the pause menu, and sites like GameFAQs and Shoryuken can give you way better advice to improve your game than a strategy guide ever could.

Thanks. I'll check out Shoryuken. Some of the D pad motions look crazy to pull off.
Picked up the Collector's Edition today at GameStop (they told me when I preordered it 3 weeks ago that it would be available for pickup on the 17th).

I'm a SF fanatic, and SF Turbo for the SNES is my all-time fave game.

I played a good half-hour of SF IV this evening. Jaw-dropping. I can see myself playing this 15 years from now. There's enough old and new distilled into every facet of this game you can almost literally feel the love pouring from Capcom's development team.

Hell, I bought my PS3 mainly for the Blu-Ray. SF IV will likely be one of the very few games I actually buy for the system.

I'm owning in Arcade Mode with Zangief. So much fun.
PS3 owners definately got the better Collector's Edition.
The gamestop I pre-ordered SF IV at won't have it until tomorrow. >=o

I think the Capcom controller's are the same for PS3 and 360. People with arcade sticks will pwn native control users on XBL. The ps3 controller's dpad works well enough to not warrant the purchase of another controller, IMO. For xbox though...

There is only one word to describe...Street Fighter IV,...AWESOME!
picked it up today

very nicely put together. will take a while to get used to the physics but I think this is a worthy addition to the street fighter catalogue.

oh and why is Dr.Manhattan the end boss?

Alanthar, It is not Dr. Manhattan...it is a clone that Marvel...lost the rights to, and was acquired by Capcom, when the clone, and 2 copies were included for the price of one.
Had a chance to try this out quickly before work.

Sheer gaming bliss. This game honestly is fantastic. I will have to go through the training mode when I get home, just to get used to the physics engine.

Quick Note - if you got the Coll. Ed., you got a code to download the Brawler Pack. It basically gives a new outfit to each of the "heavy" fighters (E.Honda, Zangief, etc.). I love Zangief's - it's the green overalls that Haggar wears in Final Fight.
How are the controls? I love SF but playing fighting games on the 360 controller has always bothered me. Does it flow well? I'd love to get my hands on one of those custom madcatz pads but they're crazy expensive.
I have the Madcatz gamepad for PS3 and it's great. The D-Pad feels very responsive and it's not often that I end up doing a Shoryuken instead of a Hadouken. The controller was inspired by the fantastic Saturn arcade pad, so their minds are in the right place.

I tested it on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (which everyone needs to buy right away), Street Fighter Alpha, Alpha 2 Gold, HD Remix, Tekken 3 and even LittleBigPlanet. Everything is very responsive, the d-pad doesn't go diagonal when I want to go left or right (like the NES Max did) and the face buttons have a very solid feel to them.

On the bottom of the controller is a switch to make the D-Pad function as the left or right analog sticks or just the D-Pad itself. So when I tried LittleBigPlanet, I was able to accomplish things with relative ease without analog sticks. The only place I may have run into trouble is if a level made use of the paintball gun, which requires the right stick to aim.

These things are flying off the shelves, so pick one up if you see one. Hell, I may even pick up another controller to level the playing field for player two.

Oh, and the Tournament Stick is supposed to be top of the line, but the price is insane. The FightStick has been getting reports of the joystick sticking in places and weird-feeling buttons, so you may be better off getting the Hori stick. Oh, and the PS3 FightPad is wireless while the X360 version is not. Feel free to blame Microsoft's ridiculous wireless licensing fees on that one.

Loving the game so far. Would love it even more if the servers would get their shit together. There's nothing fun about playing arcade mode and having someone quarter up only to get disconnected and restart the fight against the computer that you were just in.
actually i find the 360dpad works a lot Better with this then it did SF2HDRemix

lots of love. now to get the secret guys

I read an article today, I think IGN, about the Street Fighter team having made game models for Deejay and T.Hawk but weren't placed in the game for some reason. They went on to say that if they get enough feedback from fans, they'll somehow add them to the game later on down the road.

Some reason would be to charge your ass for DLC at a later point in time.
I am just amazed at how good this looks on just a standard def TV. God only knows how it looks in HD.
So is the online aspect of PS3 has strong as the XBL, is it smooth and fast?

I hope it's good. I'll be picking this up tomorrow for my PS3 and once I get familiar with a couple of fighters I want to take it online.

No doubt about that. In the article they also mention of them wanting to do a "Championship Edition" version of Street Fighter IV but I don't know what else they could add to it.
I love this game. But so far for me, online is frustrating as hell.
Pls god change this.
I connect to one out of every 10 or so persons I challenge.
There's horrible lag at times.
There's minor lag always at least.
I fucking... love the, option to, play arcade... and have people interrupt your game... "HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!" simply... awesome.
Those are the only matches that so far work for me like a charm (cept for minor lag). SSF2T: HD Remix plays 1000 smoother online.

This is my experience on PSN thus far. How's XBL?

Apparently you can turn this off in the front end someplace. And why are you typing like that Duke Fleed guy?
It's not that much smoother on XBL. I don't think it would be a hard thing to fix.
is there any way to disable that annoying fucking announcer??
Can somebody please tell me how the hell to pull off the double down, down forward, forward motion? The timing is frustrating.
I'm assuming you're talking about the motion required for super combos? Can you successfully pull off a hadoken? If so just mimic that motion twice before hitting punch. Or, in this game you can cancel special moves like the hadoken into a super combo so throw a fireball then immediately try to throw another fireball and then it ought to cancel that animation should go straight into super combo.

Yes, I can pull off the hadoken with ease. It's just that after the first quarter circle motion my character reacts. How quick do I have to be with it.
I'm just a total rookie to the SF games, but willing to learn.

Edit: Ok yea, I just pulled off some super moves. Not that hard at all.

I wish there was some way to know which one presents a better online experience, none of the reviews mention this.

Whats your connection speed?
I've read a few reviews and it seems like they're collectively avoiding saying anything much about the network battles in SF IV. Just hints here and there.

For some reason, today the online fighting has been working alot better. If I leave network battle/ranking match interruptions on during arcade mode I don't have any problems connecting and fighting other players. And it's less of a wait between matches than if I go manually search for opponents. AND the matches so far have been lag-free or almost lag-free. Awesomeness.

Anybody wanna throw down? I'll be on all weekend, probably. Send me a friend request or game invite.
If you are having trouble joining games, the best solution is to create your own.

The game is pretty awesome, but the frequency of the Ultra Combos is irritating, especially since they're all canned. The ability to select from three super arts in SF3 nicely alleviated this.

It also seems to me that the throw boxes for Zangief are huge and maddening. Fuck that guy.

Yup. Agreed. Agreed.
First time I've actually got an Amazon pre-order on the day of release! God Bless Prime Shipping.

Fucking Zangief and Crimson Viper keep creaming me something awful. Had to turn off the arcade challenger thing as I wasn't getting anywhere! No problems with lag as of yet though.

Really, really fun. The only thing I've played since Street Fighter II on the SNES is Super Smash Brothers, so I've got some training ahead of me! Really having difficulty with the Ultra moves too. I can do Hadoukens just fine, I just seem to screw up the first bit 4 times out of 5. Slowly getting better..

Are people finding the D-Pad or analog easier on the 360?

Fantastapotamus, I prefer...the analog stick, for all types games on my 360, but particularly fighting games. I explain my choice of analog over the new arcace sticks below.

I don't know if I am the only one who dislikes the fact that the new...Street Fighter arcade sticks have the joystick on the wrong side of the base. I am right handed...while I can push buttons just as easilly with my left or right hand, I need my right hand to move the stick, so I would not buy any of the new arcade sticks.
Well I finally picked up the game, although I am not completely happy with my purchase. I spent over an hour playing the game with random ppl at my HMV, trying to decide which console to buy it for. The PS3s controller is much better for this game, however, the visuals for this game on the PS3 are surprisingly inferior to the 360 version. Its really angering actually, the PS3 can't even render two models without Anti Aisling problems, I mean seriously, how poorly designed can the PS3 be?
Played this last night with Trejo and got my ass handed to me.

This game is so fun to play. I'll be on SFIV later on today.

Note: Has anybody unlocked any special Titles and Icons for your profile? I don't know what you have to do to get them.

Aren't the sticks set up that way on the actual arcade cabinets? Granted, the only arcade version I have any real experience with is X-Men vs Street Fighter (still my favorite, by the way), and I remember the stick being on the left with the buttons to the right.

I'm glad to hear the analog stick works well, though, I was never any good at playing fighting games with a D-Pad--even a good D-pad--so the shittastic 360 controller made me really nervous about buying this game.

MrMushnik, I remember some arcade machines having 2 sets of buttons with the stick in the middle so that it didn't matter whether you were left or right handed. On machines that didn't...I would play, where I would hit the buttons with my left and move the stick with my right, but that was a little awkward.

There's no AA rendering problem on the PS3 - since it isn't using AA. That is technically a problem though.

The PS3's hardware and software can handle all this without even flinching. It's just difficult for them to achieve the same results as the 360 at the moment due to a more complicated development kit.
In light of the excellent job Capcom did with developing RE5 on the PS3, it looks virtually identical to the 360 version, the disparity in the gfx is disappointing. It looks like a drawing come to life on the 360, however, Im pretty sure im going to try and return the 360 disc for a ps3 disc. Those capcom fightpads are limited and completely sold out, and I don't want to game online with the 360 d=pad.

Nah, I'd say it was pretty darn even. Especially when you kept negating the devastating might of all but Dan's ULTRA attacks. (I <3 You, Dan)

Also - I'm playing this thing solely with the X360 D-Pad and I've had no trouble pulling off every character's special, super special, ex, ultra and whatever else you want to name shit special attacks. Anyone who claims they can't use it for shit with this game either isn't trying hard enough or is just letting it psyche them out, it works fine.

I'm glad I've unlocked all the characters though, because even on Easiest I never want to do that fucking Seth fight with El Fuerte, Chun Li or Abel again!

You get them as you play thru the game's various modes. Not sure about arcade but the Time Attack/Trial/Survival/Challenges unlock 'em as does fighting people via network battle.

It's not that you can't use it for shit but the Dpad is not nearly as precise as others. Haven't played SF IV on 360 for more than 5min but the DPAD sucks donkey dick for Guilty Gear and Super Turbo HD Remix... If yours works flawlessly and you can Metsu Hadouken and pull off Zangief's moves and Guile's charge moves consistently then more power to you.

In regards to the difference between graphics, I don't see it. They look the same to me on my friend's AQUOS 1080P. Maybe the PS3 looks a hair more crisp.

EDIT: Apparently the 360 version looks a bit better, according to this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/fa...ter-iv-article
I don't see the difference in the videos, though. It seems to be minimal though, only noticeable if you're looking for it in the backgrounds and certain cutscenes but in motion the games play/look identical. Still glad I got it for the PS3. Fuck that 360 Dpad.
