DRAGONBALL - Pre-release

I guess all that James Wong Gurgles My Dragonballs thread disappeared in the revamp, so I'm starting this new one. What can I say? I'm a Dragonball fan watching this production expecting a bland trainwreck.

I just heard that Randall Duk Kim (the Keymaker in the Matrix Reloaded) has been cast as Gokou's grandfather, Gohan. But that's not really why I created this thread. I started this thread because live-action Dragonball Z already exists. And it scares me.

Japanese people are weird.

EDIT: That Chow Yun Fat left Woo's Red Cliff and soon after took a role in Dragonball saddens me.

I have fortunately seen the existing Dragonball Z movie.

It's insanity and depravity set to film.

I don't know whether my curiosity is morbid enough to actually follow the production of this movie.

Isn't James Marsters like 50 or something?

You know once they gets to fighting, that video really is very entertaining.

No Post-Release thread (and I'm not about to start one), but I was entertained more than I should have. Course, that may be because I had just watched the shitty STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI.

Embraces its goofiness. I was a bit reminded of the cheesy 80s flicks I liked as a kid: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE and SUPER MARIO BROS.

Couldn't figure out why they replaced the cool looking practical Goku-as-demon rubber-suit (as seen in the bloopers) with the CGI (and more source-accurate, granted) ape though. Bad decision as it looked BAD.

Drinking game: drink every time someone says "ball" or "ballz".

But Goku is supposed to be ASAAAAAAIN!!!

Yes, Asain.

Hehehehe.  Funny you mention Super Mario Bros.  I just watched that again.  I've never hated it it.  It's just such a strange movie.

Nooj - don't worry man, you ain't on a lonely island when it comes to SMB. Its a weird little film, but I dig it too.

Maybe i'll see if this is on my netflix (damn you Canadian licensing rights)

My main problem with this is that the action kind of blows. I can tolerate a lot of stupidity from a Dragonball property as long as I get some cool fights (I am far too easy to please in this regard), but the fights here are just lousy. There's no energy or flow to them.

Other than that, this is a "fun" bad movie like the aforementioned Masters or Super Mario Bros.

Can't really argue with you there, but (strangely) I didn't mind amidst all the other bizzare stuff. It's not WAAAY out there like the fever dream that is WARRIORS OF VIRTUE or as well-choreographed as THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, but it's so-bad-it's-good and harmless enough for kids.

Plus Ernie Hudson has a cameo.

And the girls in this are nice to look at.

DISCLAIMER: These are not images from DRAGONBALL Z: EVOLUTION.

Even Jamie Chung would have been a better Chun-Li than Kreuk in STREETFIGHTER: THE LEGEND O' WTF

Forgot as I was watching that James Wong directed it. As I like him and his partner, and as Jet Li's THE ONE is any indication, it should have been better. I've liked their stuff since X-FILES... (BLACK XMAS was a disappointment), but whatev.

Oh God, Warriors of Virtue is so cracktastic. Between Ronny Yu using it as a practice run for Bride of Chucky and Freddy Vs. Jason (there's some pretty violent, disturbing shit in the movie), my recognizing most of the Roo voice actors from Beast Wars (anyone remember that show?), and Angus Macfadyen's gloriously Looney Tunes baddie, I love that movie's awfulness.

I do have to agree with you on the ladies and Ernie Hudson, though.
