Things you just realized (Tv Edition)

Since I believe the original thread disappeared during the revamp. I figure I'd bring back after I was messing around on youtube and found that Mayor Carcetti was one of the lead characters on Queer as Folk (UK), Consider my mind blown with that one.

That Michael Keaton was originally suppose to play Jack on LOST and not Matthew Fox.
In the Letterman segments that ran on The Electric Company back in the 70s, Gene Wilder was the voice of Letterman and Zero Mostel was the voice of Spell Binder. Mind = blown.

Man, that would have been awesome.
He was supposed to Die at the end of the Pilot episode.

I'm glad they went the way they did.
That it wasn't just a fluke the first time I saw it, but Numb3rs is actually this painfully, absurdly stupid every episode. Wee-bey, Will Patton, you deserve better.

Sitting down with my brand-spankin new DVDs of the 5th season of The Wire, the commentary informs me that the actress who plays Alma the reporter is married to Larry "D'Angelo Barksdale" Gilliard.

Mind blown! That and David Simon has a cameo in the first season as a college basketball coach who sells his star player to Barksdale for the upcoming West-East game.
Simon has more cameos. He's seen as one of the reporters at the newspaper in season 5 and as a reporter near the docks in season 2 i think.
Shit, I caught the small ones, but I guess I haven't watched that basketball episode since I figured out what Simon looks like. He actually has a couple of lines and everything.

Yeah, it's a complete scene. I only knew about it because I recently watched the first season. Need to get back on track and review the second one sometime soon.

Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice) was Jared's younger brother Kyle on the Pretender. I'd totally forgotten about that show until my wife noted it in passing last week in an "oh yeah, you didn't know that?" tone.
All shows have at least one episode with Tracy Middendorf.
I thought I saw Stanley from The Office walk into the social security administration building in the X-Files episode "Talitha Cumi". I just realized it's not him.

Or Michelle Forbes.

You know who was in The X-Files? Tracy Middendorf.

You know who else wasn't in The X-Files? Greg Grunberg. In an unusual move.

Charlize Theron has never been more cute or appealing than when she played the retarded British woman on Arrested Development.

I just realized Tristan Wilds (Michael from The Wire) will be a castmember in the 90210 spinoffremake thing... and I sighed.

I know, the only other interesting thing about the new 90210. They have a Persian character, which is a little more reflective of actual Beverly Hills demographics.
But its a Persian... that happens to be Scientologist.... and may be a closeted homosexual.

Does that even hurt the "reflexive of actual Bevery Hills demographics" argument, though?
The 90210 remake has Michael from the Wire, Darcy from Degrassi, Lori Loughlin, and Jessica Walter. I will illegally download at least one episode because of this. (Although to be fair, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, who worked on Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared, are the showrunners, so there are odds that it might not totally suck.)
The Bob Saget roast made me realize that Lori Louglin has, quite improbably, gotten steadily hotter for my entire lifetime.

I know all three groups exist in BH. But to have it rolled into one? That's some kind of trifecta right there.

Phil Lamar has voiced a character in every animated tv show ever made. Or at least since 1995 or so.

A minor derail, but have you watched the UK version? I keep mulling over getting it, and I think a respected opinion or two might sway me in either direction.

I've been trying to but the dvd is out of print and I will not spend $75 on Amazon. Oddly enough had I bid a buck more on Ebay I would've gotten it. Of course I was leery was spending $38 on it though.

But I do know it's very different than the US series even though it has it's parallels.

That Michael and Marlo from The Wire are gonna be starring in 90210 and Heroes.

I'm too used to seeing them as their characters there. That's gonna take some getting used to. Especially goddamn Marlo.
That Billy West did the voice for not only Philip J. Fry, but also Farnsworth, Zapp Brannigan, Dr. Zoidberg, and various minor characters.

Once you know it, it's pretty easy to hear him in each voice. Then, once you're good and ingrained with his work in Futurama, go back and watch Ren & Stimpy to have your mind blown more.

Same thing with the Simpsons seeing how it's basically three guys: Castalanetta, Azaria, Sherera(sp?). You can tell which guy is voicing which character.

That "guy with a moustache" whose appeared in the background on various Simpsons episodes was not David Crosby, but in fact writer John Swartzwelder.

Thread Starter
Heh, it looks like they slapped the guy's head on Barney's body. Also they say on the commentary that Swartzwelder would fit right into a 1930s Preston Sturgis movie.

I just found out that my mother lives near the fountain that was used in The Weeds intro.

Levy from The Wire is in that Arby's commercial where he's getting catcalls from construction workers while eating a Big Montana.
Levy also has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in 'Liar Liar' as one of the execs that Carrey's character roasts.
Shia TheBeef played the mascot who broke his arm in the episode of Freaks and Geeks where Sam takes over as mascot.
Edie McClurg was in an episode of Seinfeld, and appeared on Nash Bridges in 2episodes playing different characters.

Watching the fifth season of The Wire and one of the homicide detectives, Barlow I think,(the "Thats my dick in your ear" guy from the first season) is reading Generation Kill at his desk. Thought that was a cool little nod to their next project.

There was an episode of Homicide that showed Kellerman reading The Corner. So it's been done before.
Having just seen Jane Adams as the (what else) fragile, needy spinster roles in The Wackness and Little Children, I went to IMDB to try to figure out why she seemed so familiar. The answer: "Mother of Dead Baby" in the pilot episode of Carnivale.
The great Jerry Orbach was up for the lead detective Max Greevy on Law & Order in the first season. But the producers went with George Dzundza instead. A year later, Dzundza quits and Orbach was up for the new lead detective Phil Ceretta in season two. But again the producers went elsewhere - this time to Paul Sorvino.

When Sorvino left after a year and a half on L&O, Orbach was the first (and only) choice for the third lead detective Lennie Briscoe.
Jack McBrayer, Kevin Baumgartener, Phyllis Smith, and Ed Helms all had minor roles on Arrested Development long before they rose to prominence in 30 Rock and The Office. In Smith's case, it was her first television role.
Tobin (Jigsaw) Bell played an employee of a record store on an episode of Seinfeld.
He also played the President/Dean of a military reform school on The Sopranos, if I'm remembering correctly.
In the Simpsons there are two guys one is sad looking and the other is older with a trucker hat. They have never spoken or even been giving nicknames. Yet they're in Moe's all the time

I think they have names but I have no clue who they are.
