Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door

YIKES. What a flick. There isn't much gore actually, but the suggested stuff is outright nasty. Great atmosphere. All actors do a fine job, especially Blanche Baker as the abusing mother. I really recommend this one.

In case you don't know what it's about:

"In a quiet suburban town in the summer of 1958, two recently orphaned sisters are placed in the care of their mentally unstable Aunt Ruth. But Ruths depraved sense of discipline will soon lead to unspeakable acts of abuse and torture that involve her young sons, the neighborhood children, and one 12-year-old boy whose life will be changed forever."

Here's the trailer

I thought Blythe Auffarth as Meg did an outstanding job of selling the part. My teen daughters about wanted to kill me when I had them watch it with mom and I. The eldest is still talking about it from time to time.

You guys better damn well know about the film, I've been plugging it on CC for a long time now!

Shit, did we lose that old thread? There was some great stuff in there.

My review- http://creature-corner.com/?type=news&id=2290

I'd suggest you guys check out the novel, if you haven't already. It's even more harrowing at parts.

This came up in my American Crime thread, since they're based on the same event. I've added it to my Netflix queue. Whether I can take two movies on this subject remains to be seen. Reading about it was bad enough.

I'll say this; a little more than a half hour into this, I was ready to turn it off and watch the rest of it at a later time.

None of the really bad stuff happens at this point but the dread I was feeling was too much for me. I don't know if it was the film or me anticipating what was going to happen. Or maybe I'm becoming too much of a wuss when it comes to these things.
