Thursday = a work night.
Everyone uses Pacific? I'll second that shit.

I'm pretty sure I'm free Thursday night - pretty sure. I'm an Atlanta chewer, so the timing is perfect.

On a long walk back from class last week I was actually considering this concept but thought the logistics would be too difficult. I'm glad there are other well-balled chewers to actually make this shit happen.
I completely forgot, but I think I'm going to Van Halen on Thursday.
I rented Big Trouble. So I'm in.

Perfect post with that avatar, Riploli. Play nice, boys.
I'm not a film student.
I am. Bring it.

[insert smiley to assure levity here]
You have the insight of a film student, and the same technical fascination.
This sounds like fun but Mon - Thurs are a problem for me with my schedule. I could probably make Fri - Sun evening happen though. Maybe not this time since everyone seems to agree on Thursday, but hopefully next time.

What's wrong with that?

I will say CHUD Chat might not be the best place to be while watching a movie for the first time though.
Eh, talk to any film students lately? Most of them are shitheads who want to remake Snatch or Clerks. Let love back into your heart, Spike.

This! ...is true.

Not me though, cuz I'm badass and cool.

EDIT: Funny, I was just about to (and still am) start a thread to talk about Snatch. Please dismiss me and my opinion entirely because of this.
Other than the fact that in chat I break my sentences in to seperate lines, I still have no idea what I did to offend Spike.

You typed to him funny...

I won't be able to make it tomorrow night after all. And you know - I'm totally willing to own up and admit what unbelievably stupid thing I did that lead to this realization. See, I need to get a new DVD player, and in the meantime, I've been watching my DVDs on my laptop. Which means - guess what I can't do? I can't watch a DVD on my laptop and chat about it on said laptop at the same time. I think it's that it sounded like so much fun that my brain went on vacation for a bit, so it never occurred to me when I said, "Sure, Trejo, that sounds great - I'm in!" that I need two machines to do this, not just one. So there's my confession for the day - I just made the Down's Syndrome Vampire look like Stephen Hawking.
Well what the hell Lisa? Get on it!

Wal-mart. $30. No excuse.
I know, I know. I do have to wait, actually, since I have no room for additional expenses over the next few weeks, no matter how small. But this has officially embarrassed me into getting one no later than next month.

Uh... I don't completely follow. Just make the dvd window not full-screen and shrink it just enough to fit the chat window beside it! It's what I'll be doing.

YOUR EXCUSE IS 4 FAIL
Hmmm, I did not realize I could do that...

REALIZATION - FAIL! CHAT TOMORROW AFTER ALL - NOT FAIL!
Lisa will be in the DVD chat, and all is right in the world...

Teh Awesome.
(*Snort!*)

Right...

I read this in the voice of Strong Bad, and it made me chuckle.
Wish I was a bit closer to NY, Lisa. I have two extra DVD players gathering dust in my closet...
You're sweet, Tieman, but when I do get one, I'll actually be going after a DVD/VCR combo - I have a couple of tapes that aren't out on DVD, and it's easier to just buy the player than to convert them. But thanks anyway, that's incredibly nice of you to offer.

Does not compute.

Screw these people and their stupid timezone. That's right, I hear their timezone knocked up its underaged girlfriend and is now refusing to pay alimony.

Anyway, anybody living in or near my timezone (That would England and pretty much all of Europe) interested in doing something similar?
Double Post
That was weird. It was like the boards weren't sure if they wanted to let you double-post, so they waited 5 minutes.
Great, bottom-page post. I'm gonna quote it so that more people read my suggestion.

OK!

This thing is going down in approx 2 hours, that's 10 est, 9 central, 8 mtn, 7 pacific. The movie is BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, the place.. the effing chat room. Dragon Ma found a neat little 'create room' button, so I'll be making a private room for the movie watchers.

Once we figure we have enough people in and settled, we'll hit the chapters menu, get #1 all highlighted, and all click it via countdown. It's a short movie, so we aren't stopping for a group bathroom break, if you need to drop a duece, just run and do it, leave the movie playing.. it'll be too hard to sync everyone back up otherwise.

If you join in late, that's great, just ask someone where we are and catch up the best you can, it's not like being 25 seconds off what we're seeing is going to break the experience.

Hopefully this thing goes well, we get a decent turn-out.. and you guys start making up your own movie nights on semi-regular basis. Cheers, and I'll see most of you dorks after your Lost episode.

SON OF A BITCH MUST PAY!
Shit. My car broke and I couldn't get to Wal-Mart to buy a copy!

Fuck, fuck, fuck fuck....
Rather then do a countdown just have everyone cue it up to the first frame or a certain time code. then countdown and hit play. Since some players might load slower then others.

And if there's ever a longer movie, you should pre-determine a certain timecode for a 10 minute break for all. So if it's like a 2.5 hour movie say 1:45:30 is break time. If someone goes over just have them stop and rewind back to that timecode. Then after 10 minutes make sure everyone is ready and then countdown again. If someone misses it then T.S. for them.

I can give you an example of how we did it on another board. I could just quote the post.... fuck it. Here's an example:

Quote:
This is the Movie Night Thread for Million Dollar Baby. We’ll meet up here up to an hour before we start rolling the film on Saturday February 16th. For anyone who’d like to join us…have your Million Dollar Baby DVD ready to play that night. Check here to see what time we’ll be starting the film in your area:

U.S West Coast (PST) 1:00PM
Mid U.S (CST) 3:00PM
U.S East Coast (EST) 4:00PM
Great Britain, Portugal (GMT, WET) 9:00PM
France, Italy (CET) 10:00PM
Finland (EET) 11:00PM

If anyone needs to check other times zones, check out this site:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

We’ll be starting the movie at the first frame of film, which is the beginning of the Lakeshore Entertainment Logo.

Have your DVD set up here and paused, we’ll all be hitting play on the hour.

We’ll be taking three short breaks during the film (usually around ten minutes).

The first break is at the start of Chapter 6. (33:35 on the R-4 DVD)

A shot of Scrap, this is after the scene where Frankie finally agrees to train Maggie.

The second break is at the beginning of chapter 11, (1:09:40 on the R-4 DVD)

Frankie and Maggie drive into the trailer park where Maggie's family live. This is after the scene where Maggie asks Frankie if he'll come with her to tell her mother she has bought a house for her.

The third break is at the beginning of chapter 15, (1:36:16 on the R-4 DVD)

Frankie is praying in the chapel. This is after the scene where Maggie has been moved into the Serenity Glen Rehabilitation Centre.

Please note that all chapters and times are for Region 4 DVD’s and may not be the same for other regions.

I’m starting this thread early so the event could be added to the calendar – All events must have a thread to link to.
It's a lot of work but worth it. The unfortunate thing is is that they do it ON the board not in a live chat. So I don't participate. It's a pain in the ass to read through comments and reply to people. A live chat is so much easier. I think CHUD is a great place for this type of thing since we love movies and we can discuss what we like and don't like about the movie and we can even make fun of it if we wanted too or just make general observations. I won't be joining in on this one since I have to get up extremely early tomorrow for work but I look forward to reading any post-viewing comments here on the board.

Have fun everyone!

Possible Next Films

Ghostbusters
Mortal Kombat
Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors
Evil Dead 2
Ice Pirates
Suspiria
Lethal Weapon
After some syncing issues the first night was a success.

So... next?!

Ghostbusters?
Evil Dead 2?
Mortal Kombat?
Phantasm?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang?
Halloween?
Robocop?
Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Dead Alive(Braindead)?
Road Warrior?
Nightmare on Elm Street?

It should be a film that a lot of us own to cut down on complications.
Damn you, Ripolllllll!

Lethal Weapon could backfire and be nothing but people typing *wailing sax*, not that there's anything wrong with that.

More Ideas

Falling Down
The Mummy
Starship Troopers
Kill Bill
Dazed and Confused

Or at least easy to rent. I can see DEAD ALIVE being tough to find. MORTAL KOMBAT could be as well, sadly, but I could PM everyone to learn *cough*bittorrent*cough* (it's for a good cause!)

Personally, I like:

Raiders
Ghostbusters
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang
Mortal Kombat
TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze
The Thing
Batman Forever
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Hellraiser/Hellraiser II
Toxic Avenger
Beerfest
Fight Club
Rambo First Blood Part II
Darkman

I also vote for Commando, or one of Edgar Wright's masterpieces.

*edit- I really wish everyone owned Riki Oh and House of the Dead(the latter just for this)
I own House Of The Dead, but I may be the only one on here who'd admit that.
How about a rousing game of spot-the-homage in Equilibrium?
