New Mountain Goats Video is Great

AKA Holy awesome. It's one of those great one-shot videos, like Gondry used to make. It's for the first song, "Sax Rohmer #1" on their new album "Heretic Pride". And even if you aren't a fan of the Mountain Goats, you gotta see this piece of greatness.

Sax Rohmer is a great fucking song, I'm glad this is the first "single" they're going to push out there. It almost makes the rest of the album pale a bit, b/c it starts the LP off.

I meant first single from the new LP, not first single overall. I know "Woke Up New" was pushed out there, wasn't it?

I just watched the video, fucking brilliant. Not really much else to say about it than that. I loved it.

In these cases, the term single means pretty little. The only radio play they'll get would probably be satellite and they'll play whatever song they like from the album. But this is their second music video, and their first music video (directed by Brick's Rian Johnson) was indeed for Woke Up New. Coincidentally (or perhaps not) that was another video that was all one shot and relied on some sleight of hand, though to less of an effect.

Discovered the band last week, and it's pretty good so far. Is the rest of their work as good as Heretic Pride?

"The rest" is a tricky term when it comes to the Mountain Goats. The guy's released an awful lot of albums. I haven't heard Heretic Pride yet, but I'd assume it's more in the vein of the more recent, well-produced stuff (a lot of the early and mid-period albums are just solo cassette recordings). Of those I've heard, I'd recommend The Sunset Tree first.

It's definitely got more punch and energy than Get Lonely.

But John Darnielle (AKA The Mountain Goats) is a prolific motherfucker. Also check out All Hail West Texas!
