Noo! He is made of nightmares!

I like Acrabnophobia, personally. Which did you submit for the contest? Or is it a cumulative thing?
I'm actually trying to figure it out right now. I have to get this submitted by the end of the day today, apparently. Although there's only 3 people who have videos up so far.

What do the rest of you guys think? I made a Sewer Chewer of sorts but he was sorta boring... there's so many pieces to use here it seems sorta lame to just do a humanoid creature.

(edit: Oh, and to be clear, we pick one Creature each.)
Ok, my seeing your creations only made me realize that mine suck.
Way too cute.
Well, crap. My five year-old Dell can't run the Creator, apparently. Guess I'll have to finally take the plunge on a new one sometime soon... or just get a new video card.
It took me some graphics card overclocking on my laptop to get it to run smoothly, actually. The card I had in my computer doesn't have Pixel Shader 2.0 and couldn't even start it up. I'm a little surprised... I thought they were going for the mainstream with this one.

There are a few on NewEgg that are dirt cheap, though (like 20-30 bucks) that should run it.

This is the reason I barely play PC games, though.
Oh and Sporevote.com is online, but only 3 celebs that I've never heard of have uploaded creatures. None of us internet folks even have profiles yet.

PS 2.0 is five years old. Frankly I'm shocked your PC doesn't support it.
Yeah, i was going to say. The specs are minimal.
If you think about it, the requirements are close to an old X-Box.
Had a Radeon 9250 on my (2-year old) comp. Last one of theirs to support 1.6, I believe.

Sure, I know you've all got fancy new graphics cards, but I bet you're going to see a lot of people with mainstream computers (even newer ones) that are going to have trouble playing this one.
Yeah, sounds like I would have to buy a new graphics card if I wanted to play it. Even with that, the rest of my computer probably will only just meet the minimum requirements. May still be worth it, though, I've really been looking forward to this game.
This is annoying.

Yes, the free version of the SCC is out today. But the full version isn't, even if you pre-ordered it. Even Direct-To-Drive has it available, and the EA Store doesn't. When EA found out people in America were cancelling their EA Store orders and buying it from D2D, EA made them stop selling the SCC to Americans.

The perfectly acceptable AGP X800/X850s didn't have PS2.0 in them. There was this whole issue when Bioshock came out (PC obviously) and people couldn't play it.

Trust me, it's not the age or quality of the cards, it just seems PS2.0 was missing on some otherwise flawless hardware.

Seriously?

This has been the way of PC gaming since PC gaming began.
I'm disappointed that the Mac version is requiring the Leopard OS to run.

Shader Model 3.0 was what the X8xxs didn't have. ATI has supported 2.0 since the 96xx/97xx line.

I hate to say it, but requiring Shader 2.0 is NOT very demanding.
And yes, cards running it are dirt cheap.

I figure the full version (which I'll surely play in Sept) will probably be too complex for my 4 year old, but she loved the creature creator. We spent an hour tonight before bed making a dinosaur and a purple hippo all at her instruction. "No those eyes. That color, etc." She'd give the creature commands in the Test Drive area and I'd click applicable buttons to make it look like the creatures were interacting with her. She also got a kick outta the babies. I can't imagine what we can make with the other 75% of the creator elements not included in this free trial version. I'll be getting the $10 one for sure this week, and try not to waste too much time at work.

I'm not normally such a shill, but this is gonna be HUGE.

EDIT: Tutorials here.

Funnily enough, I got an email from the PR company talking about the "Influencer" comp saying that she was going to send over the full version. I'm surprised... I've had the trial version all along, and didn't know it. There's sure a lot of stuff to use just in this one.

Also, like Darkmite says, kids LOVE this. My 7 year old goddaughter made a whole bunch of creations last weekend (with clever names like "alien", and "alien dog")

DEEP CROW!!!! AAAAAAAHH! DEEP CROW!!!!!

Well. I'm having a weird problem with the trial version. I downloaded it and it wouldn't work, it was getting to the EA prescreen and then crashing to desktop. I tried it a few times, using different ways of opening the exe file (directly, rather than through a shortcut and also through my start button). It kept doing the same thing.

So I restarted my computer and voila, worked fine. My processor is 1.8 ghz so it's a little slower, I imagine, but the editor was working and all was as it should be. Then I get up today, my computer left on overnight, and same problem as before. I updated my drivers for my vcard and restarted a few times. Nada.

If it's a hardware problem, it should never have worked at all not worked once out of 5-10 attempts. I guess I should try reinstalling? Has anyone else encountered this problem? The website for the game says that it's probably a hardware issue, but I don't think that's true if the thing worked. I more or less meet the requirements anyway, only my processor is a little behind. But if it worked once, right?

Dammit. I thought it was ludicrous to pay money for the creature creator, but the trial version is making me consider it.

Do you get a price break on the full game if you buy this thing?

Oh, and a curse on somebody for thinking of doing King Ghidorah before I did.
Just dropped 10 bucks on it. Fucking fun as hell. Made a few Mist creatures. Good stuff.

You get five dollars off the full version of Spore, which means you end up paying five dollars more for Spore than you would if you just waited.

Proof that my trial version works at least part of the time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_CBF7dlCHc

I've tried everything I can think of, but the fucker still crashes to desktop unless the stars align in the correct way. I've gotten it to work twice now, always immediately after a reboot. If I reboot, it's no guarantee that the program will load. So frustrating.

My first little guy: Dr. Sneezers

Nothing major, but I only really had time to upload him because my girl commandeered my computer for like 2 hours last night. She was making some fucking abominations.

These are great. You guys are making me want this game in the worst way.

Youtube's quick too. Some of them have already been removed: "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation. "

Well, I downloaded the trial version on a whim last night just to see what would happen. Turns out the stock video card that came with my computer 2 years ago (Dell machine...definitely not top of the line at the time either) supports PS 2.0

Huzzah for the shopkeep!

So I played around with it for a few minutes before I had to go to work. I must be JUST at the minimum hardware requirements, though, but it looks as though it has tuned down every conceivable visual perk. But it should still be loads of fun.

Behold the mighty Gulagacker!
Haha awesome.

I take it no one's had the same problem I bitched about earlier? I've gotten the thing to work occasionally which makes me think the issue is completely inexplicable since, when it works, it works just fine. It being a hardware issue makes no sense to me if it's only an issue some of the time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a problem with the program loading when I first installed it. It would get to the EA screen and crash to the Desktop. Try this, it works for me:

At the Desktop. CTRL+ALT+Del to bring up your task manager.
Make sure you are under the Processes tab.
Double click your Spore Icon to start the program.
As soon as you do, "SporeCreatureCre" will pop up on the list.
Right click that and select "Set Priority".
Set priority to "Above Normal", then "Yes" to accept.
This works every time for me.

Here are some of my creations:

Found a workaround for the Mac version's Leopard requirement, and made a few creatures last night.

My first attempt.

The color scheme combined with the long arms make me think of Mr. Fantastic.

Why hasn't someone made a Mugwump yet? Or a Sleestack?
I don't know, I think it's a little odd that the first thing people want to do is recreate someone else's creation. I wanted to get my hands on the thing so I could go wild with it.
Yeah, but...Sleestaks!
I agree with Greg. Way more fun to make your own creatures.
great game. can't wait to play it

dp sorry
Thanks, Cornbreadicus. Works like a charm. How'd you figure that out, anyway?
The Queegulum and The Deevix.

I hope the actual game is as much fun as this thing.
You paid for the full version, right?
I want feathers!

Anyways, i couldn't resist...

I am apparently the 387th person on Youtube to attempt a Homer Simpson analogue.

Behold Homer Sapien, built with the demo version (apparently, you can't download the full creature creator for Mac--have to get a boxed version).
