what about mid to late 60's Bob Dylan Cate?

Thank you. The Indiana Jones series is full of charming but obvious effects shots. They were just photochemical rather than digital.

You might also remember people bitching about some space shots looking fake in the Star Wars prequels because they were CG, only to be revealed they featured physical models and miniature photography.

Even better. She's got the good drugs.

Exactly. That's what drives me up the wall about this. Nobody bitches about movies with obvious matte paintings. But an obvious CG landscape is an unpardonable cinematic crime. If a person can't live with being reminded that movies are fake, they should stay home and watch American Idol.

I dare people to go watch the Nazi and his tank take a tumble down a cliff in the Last Crusade and then come back and wax poetically about the superiority of non-digital effects and the obviousness of CGI.
Goddamnit. Why does May 22nd have to be so far away?
I was about to say. Dylan Cate was hot stuff.

Older movies just aren't as available as all the modern HD1080p Quicktime to scrutinize every frame like all the modern trailers enable to. Maybe that's one of the reasons the childhood memories often grow roses around the edges.

I just realized that this is a miniature shot with some live action Indy composited in. Looks perfect. The exploding boxes in the shot after that look like miniature work too.

Well, hearing TV Dune music at the beginning seemed downright stupid to me (since when does Indy need anyone else's music, hmmm?), so I got off on the wrong foot with this trailer. The flag shot didn't exactly charm me out of feeling that way, either.

However, to be perfectly honest, my ticket was set to be purchased long ago, purely on the concept of Commie Cate and the presence of Karen Allen. The rest is petty details.

Hell, Commie Cate is already paying off.

Maybe Indiana Jones is allergic to Retinax 5 too. Didja thinka that?

If I ran a studio, I'd be greenlighting an Ilsa: Tigress of Siberia remake now.

I just watched the trailer yet again, and there's something about it that's just so charming and lighthearted. While I may be ridiculously excited for films like Iron Man and The Dark Knight, I think Indy is going to give the best time in the theater out of all the summer movies provided one can stay only moderately cynical instead of CHUD cynical.

And when he jumps off the crates and tries to swing onto the truck, did that remind anyone else of Seth Rogen jumping at the end of the Pineapple Express trailer?

One of the threads lost in the Great Winter Version Switch is a discussion of precisely this notion. I said then, and I repeat now, that if such a thing were to come to pass, I would handcuff myself to my theater seat and bite anyone who tried to remove me.

I mean, you could certainly be right, but let's not jump to conclusions just because he's involved.
Likely, it's not right, because Spielberg doesn't really take orders from Lucas on these films. He's the director, and a much more capable filmmaker than Georgie Boy, and I think for the most part Lucas acknowledges this and respects him.

That one shot is really really iffy, but it's so obviously not complete. And you know what? It took me several times of watching the trailer to notice Winstone's fucked up cgi pants and the teleporting soldier. I was too busy noticing how not old and withered Harrison Ford looked.

Also, goddamnit, I hate to find myself agreeing with Greg David, but he's right on about the complaints against CGI vs. old school photo chemical effects, matte paintings and such. That shit is really out of hand.

HOWEVER I will add that CGI has come to a point where there's really no excuse for it other than meeting a deadline.

Want examples? Look at the many CGI landscapes in Return of the King. From memory, I can't think of a single one that didn't look completely real. Same goes for most of Fellowship and The Two Towers, the dead marshes seems to have been the one element that really got the shitty end of the stick in terms of realistic landscapes. Kong also looked great when there were no stampeding herds of dinosaurs.

Another good example of that is Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End, and for the most part, Dead Man's Chest as well. Plenty of CG landscapes in both, most of them looked very very real.

I also think the complaints are less due to lack of realism and more due to lack of consistency. That makes a big difference.

I am worried about the Shia factor.

The way he delivers his "You're a...teacher?" line is reminiscent of his past efforts. He has played the same awkward, fractured-speaking character in all of the films I have had the displeasure of seeing him in. Kid needs to fuck off back to Nickelodeon and come back when he's learned acting means acting like someone other than Shia Ladouche. Get it? I put douche in there. He is one.

Everything else is tip top though. The CGI inconsistencies will get ironed out. I am of the belief that Temple of Doom is the greatest Indy movie, as well as the greatest movie ever made, period. Any film made after 1984 is just pointless waste of celluloid. I am understandably hoping Shia is simply this film's Kate Capshaw (fuck you, Short Round is awesome) and that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will finally raise the bar.
I think on the basis of this trailer, unless the writing of the character is REAL bad, Commie Cate is gonna be one for the ages. If there is an actress that does not disappoint, it's Cate Blanchett, and the look they've designed is working.

Yes sir, that's some comedy writing gold right there. Were you hanging on to that during the writer's strike? Because boy howdy, was that ever worth the wait. My abdomen hurts from the laughter. Either that, or I have pancreatitis.

Nope, it's pancreatitis. Apparently, you're not funny.

Well I am just shut the fucked down with crushing disappointment and I wonder what I have to live for now that some anonymous person on an Internet message board has taken my writing to task. I would be calling the suicide hotline right now if I weren't so beset by grief. As is all I can muster the will to do is wish forgiveness because my stock in your opinion just keeps soaring all the way up to the goddamn sky and beyond.

Do you understand the game?

Because this is where you do another comment about pancreatitis and then I retort with increasingly outlandish attempts to prove my motherfucking worth. It's an old game. Jesus played it when some asshole thought his opinion meant something and commented on Christ's joke about why the chicken crossed the road. Jesus and this guy go round and round until finally he asks God for the funniest fucking joke there is, and God tells him. And Jesus tells this pathetic piece of shit, who responds, "That's so funny I forgot to laugh." Remember this paragraph, for it is a mirror, and it reflects your pasty acne-scarred soul.

My feelings exactly. THat line was way to corny and the cgi reminded me of the Nazi tank going over the cliff in Last Crusade. But i'm still very excited, justhope it lives up to everyone's expectation.

Dude, you called Temple of Doom not only the best Indy movie, but said it's the best movie of all time and all others movies since then have sucked.

You're a god damn retarded piece of shit. Okay? Get over it, this is never going to change.

Did I offend you?

I will retreat before I get swept away by a flood of tears.

That trailer was great. You know why? It was fun. That's exactly what an Indiana Jones movie is supposed to be. I loved it.

Harry Dean Cobane, the boy with a bad attitude and shit for brains (not to mention someone who is so ill suited for this site as to stick out like a sore thumb with each and every word typed), has just called several people faggots in one thread page. I look forward to him being eventually kicked out of the clubhouse for the giant lack of anything redeeming existing inside his person.
Some guy calls me out and I'm in the wrong for defending myself? Is this how it works? You think you have a worth that supercedes mine? We're all worthless squatters. You want to hold yourself up? Be my guest but I'm going to call you on it. You want to cry. Go ahead. I'm here to discuss movies but petty distractions are entertaining too.

I stick out when people make me stick out. I don't fit in with your club. Give me a break. You elitist prick. If you don't like me I take that as a compliment. Get bent out of shape over the spice. Don't like it? Take your kids to Disneyland but don't take your inability to look past your pathetic calm circle jerk out on me. Looking out for your own and pissing on my face is fine but to do it in such plain words. It's pathetic. You're pathetic.

I came here to discuss movies. My input. Guy thinks it's not worth anything. Who made you the fucking Inquisition? Suck my dick.

Apparently, the American version of the trailer was too violent so they cut out guns that the soldiers are pointing at them. Check out this pic showing the American and Norweigian versions.

I'm melting down? I used to have respect for this forum as a whole. As an entity. Something to be approached with care because its members, by and large, seemed like good people. Colors revealed though I would make a mistake to judge the whole by the few. That said, the few here are some self-righteous assholes except for Isildur's Bangs, who is a self-righteous asshole and a petty cheerleader. I got a melting down comment and an "owned" picture all within the space of a minute. There is a quality I attribute to this message board that has now been lessened considerably. Oooo, oh no. He thinks our message board sucks? No. Just that the illusion has been shattered by a couple of crybabies.

I was just seeing what kind of guy Greg David was. Like I explained, I know the game. I could have put anything in place of "Eat lye, fag," anything at all, and it would have elicited the same exact response. Once I got my answer I proceeded accordingly. Then Bangs comes out of nowhere and tells me that Temple of Doom is actually not the best movie ever made. Know what that tells me about him? That he cries himself to sleep at night on a bed of misery, and the only things to comfort him are his authentic decapitated horse head he keeps beneath his covers, his Casablanca DVD, and a Citizen Kane poster hanging on the wall. Yes, Bangs, Temple of Doom is indeed the greatest movie ever made. You can take that to the bank (after you've finished squeezing out your pillow in the morning, of course).

That would explain a great many things, but a part of me hopes that Ray Winstone does indeed has magical pants.

I should clarify my previous post. What I meant was "too violent for the morons at the MPAA."

BTW, there was a shooting script. But Spielberg was indeed continually tweaking different sequences throughout the shoot (which he's actually done before). That should be a good sign, though... because it likely means he made the film a tad less "Modern Lucasy". I'm not sure if Koepp was involved with that process, however.
You're incorrect.
Haha I knew something was up with that shot. It was miles apart from ILM quality, even for an unfinished trailer shot. So they needed to paint the friggin guns out and that caused the wobbling and shifting on Winstone's pants and the soldiers. Jeezus.

Now why is it allowed to show soldiers being blown up but not some dudes with guns in a menacing pose? Ridiculous. Are Commie Cate's tits in the Norwegian version?

As well, as I do, brother...

and let me add some extra "gayness" to this - I changed the poor choice of music, to something I feel is better fitting to the new Indy film.... Same trailer - just different intro music - with the magic of Mr. John Wiiiams....

Dude...the music is supposed to help hide exactly what the trailer you're watching is for, that's the whole point of not really showing any of the really iconic Indiana Jones imagery, including Jones himself until he picks up the hat.

I'm gonna finish watching Free Hat now.

The beginning of the trailer lays out everything that Indiana Jones has done in the past - those that know it, the music throws off the mood of the piece.

To those who haven't watched or know the Indiana Jones series, then there's no connect to them - it's just some old guy picking up a hat.
I suspect that the guns may have been removed from the foreground simply so as not to upstage the first full shot of Indy in the first trailer.

Yes, but the trailer also intentionally doesn't show Indy's face or the hat until just before the Indy fanfare kicks in.

I don't think I would have ever noticed that until the DVD came out if someone here hadn't pointed it out. That said, it is weird that so many things are 'off' in that short little span - I'm curious as to why they included it in the trailer - surely they knew the nerds* would pick up on it immediately...

Agreed. Especially when it's from Lucas' own FX house. He was trying some experimental stuff with SW, so some of the final FX were off. No biggie. But this is Indiana Jones - I don't see why we can't get some seamless compositing FX. Either way, it's not going to bother me, but it will be a little weird if there are some rough shots in the final version (of something he's obviously invested in) considering the FX ILM has done in Transformers & the two Pirate movies lately...

Doubtful. I think it is more of a "Free Hat" situation.

Hopefully teleporting Communists are still a reality.

Edit: on closer inspection, all the areas the guns would occupy are shifty. Not just Ray's pants; check out Indy's breast pocket.

Double edit: How goddamn sad is it that we spent Valentine's Day obsessively picking apart every frame of a Lucasfilm trailer? I think I'm a virgin again now.

Probably because they know for a stone cold fact that nitpicky nerds are hardly the demographic that will make this film huge.
