Things You Were Completely Wrong About (Politics Edition) - Page 7

Well apparently it would be a society where those with the blinders of old age distorting their view of the world and with certain loyalties to parties who have an agenda which in the short term is destructive to poor communities (as well as those with alternative lifestyles) and in the long term is just very very bad for humanity would have very little say in foreign or domestic affairs.

I don't necessarily agree or disagree with that statement though concerning 5 year olds, I just thought it was interesting and it's something I'm looking into.

I've switched majors too many times (not because I didn't know what I wanted to do, but because I wanted to do too many things, and there just isn't a school I have found that could really accommodate me) and spent alot of time in alternative education (i.e. lots of time in the library, one on one mentoring, internships etc). But my years in college have been as follows: I spent a year and a half from 15-16 in theology school (yes I graduated high school when I was 15 - however, the fact that it was home schooling really complicated things), it wasn't long after that I happily lost faith and became involved with alot of local artists in Las Vegas (keep in mind during this time I was also studying music, as I had been since age 5 - that's the one thing which has ever been constant, other than hefty studying on my own which has been mainly history and philosophy).

At age 18 I decided it was time to go it alone, so I moved to Los Angeles, where I was studying Art and Animation at the Art Institute of California - Los Angeles, in Santa Monica, with the intent that I would later on get a degree in film. It didn't work out that way, I ended up switching majors two years later to "Motion Picture and Television Production" and I did that for 1 and a half years. Unfortunately it was too expensive and time consuming (four eleven week quarters, and very little time off), and I had to work alot of overtime to make ends meet and pay for my own education and most of my class materials. Not to mention my extracurricular activities such as smoking pot all day everyday and being constantly on the move all around the city for many different occasions (auditions, pitch meetings, private parties, etc), beside my music and documentary pet projects.

Bottom line it wasn't working, I have a tendency to overextend myself but never so much as I did here, so I dropped out. After that I kept up with everything else and a little while later took a couple certificate programs at MI for guitar and vocals, and based on my portfolio and many recommendations I was eventually I accepted into both Cal Arts and USC School of Cinematic Arts, but I declined both offers.

Why? Because my family needed support, and I can go to the much less prestiges school UNLV, in my home state of Nevada, for a much more reasonable price. By the time I graduate from here I'll have spent less than a third of what I already have on my education.

I have no regrets, it has all been very interesting and I've excelled in a number of different fields. I'm 23, and very well off to say the least.

When it comes down to it the road to knowledge is endless. Despite what I do know I'll be very much an open mind until the day I die.

I am looking forward to graduating within 3 years with a double major in film and philosophy, and continuing my education through UNLV's master program for screenwriters.
You sure use a lot of words to say "I haven't graduated college."
Well, "I haven't graduated college" wouldn't be very self-aggrandizing.
Graduating College and having a quality education do not necessarily mean the same thing.
True, but not the point that was being made. Have at that straw man.

I noticed and chose to ignore it.

Point is, do I have a degree from some prestiges institution? No, but at the very least I have a degree in stripes.
That's one area where I won't argue with you. I don't have a completed degree either. I came close to having a degree in Web Development, then realized that I hated it, and that if I took a job in that field, I would kill someone.
Ha, funny you would say that. I left out one minor detail of my college career, my major (although my classes never reflected it) initially was Interactive Media Design. I thought I was going to have so much fun making web sites then I realized they were web sites.

He sure uses a lot of words for bullshit. If even half of that is true I'd be shocked.

Oh, dude, if you think my life is interesting it only highlights how sad yours must be.

I know people who have more interesting afternoons then I have had an interesting life. The difference between them and you is that there interesting things are real.

Then I'm not sure why you think I feel you can't have a more interesting life then you. Again, the only thing that actually more interesting in my life is that it's real.

This thread needs a trip to a nice day spa. Mud bath, hot stone massage, sensory deprivation tank, seaweed wrap, lots of herbal tea, and a light, gluten-free, vegan lunch. Maybe a nice gift bag with overpriced shampoos and conditioners to take home at the end of the day.

I think that would help a lot.

Boy that sarcasm really goes right over your head, doesn't it?

Jesus fucking Christ. What the hell is going on here (and there)?
Can´t we just merge this thread and the Indy 4 poster thread into a The People Of Chud vs. Isildur´s Bangs thread?

But by all means necessary: continue.

P.S.: I would have never believed that the Berlin Wall could fall......

We would lock you in the aforementioned sensory deprivation tank, Cthulhu. Perhaps I should have mentioned that.

Nah, I think it's Ryan who is in need of that, what with his senses being all out of whack and all. I'm pretty fucking numb already.

Here's the thing, I'm bored as shit at work this week. I'm waiting on two locked pics and can't do a damn thing until they show up. So, I kill time on CHUD. If you read anything besides "perverse pleasure" into my posts to you then you are a far more sadly deluded man then I ever could dream up.

Maybe I should be a stronger man and just put you on ignore as others have done but I just can't seem to do that. So, until I'm mature enough to act on that thought, I guess you're going to have to tolerate being schooled.

Home-schooled.

That's not really far fetched. Many countries in Europe basically do this.
Where I live only those who choose not to get an education will not receive one. Education is free and the state pays you to go to school so this means it's particularly interesting for people with low income. There is also no difference in the level of education as all universities are open to anyone.

So it can be done but it certainly requires a lot more tax paying and this is why it would never work in the U.S.

*I haven't read past Zooey's post yet so pardon me if this has already been discussed

Education is free in the U.S., too (and compulsory in most places). Unfortunately, the quality of the education varies dramatically based on region and socioeconomic class. I don't know enough about Europe to try and rebut anything you're saying, but I wanted to make that clear.
Don't you have to pay to attend universities in the states (if you don't have scholarships)?
You're correct (I must have been reading too quickly). Sorry about that. At the same time, there are many government-sponsored colleges that offer extremely inexpensive educations. Not the same as free (and I applaud the effort to make college free), but for the vast majority of people, some form of higher education is readily attainable.
Yes but the problem with government sponsored colleges (not that I'm any expert in your system) as I see it, is that you won't get the same quality of education since all the good professors choose to teach at more prestigious universities. What I like about our system is that when you choose what you want to study it doesn't matter what university you pick. You are ensured the same quality of education no matter where you study, and future employers - in a job situation - won't pick someone else just because he/she received their degree from some fancy institution.

A good chunk of the more prestigious universities in the states are private, but not all of them.

I was always wrong in thinking their was any laws saying that U.S. citizens were required to pay federal income tax.

I didn't know we were allowed to make shit up to be wrong about. This opens up the dialogue considerably.

I was wrong to think that rainbows aren't waterslides to Atlantis.

I was actually being sarcastic because my car had been plastered with flyers for 3 days reguarding the whole "great american strike" thing.
You know, that kind of sarcasm might go over better with a little setup. I don't think most of us have seen your car lately.

Yeah, I think this is an appropriate time for "pics or it didn't happen" if you ask me.

jeesh I'm sorry guys I was on 7 beers and no sleep. Give me a break So back on topic, I was recently wrong to believe that unwarrented sarcasm in drunken posts are acceptable. And I am ashamed.
