From the way this disc was anticipated & looked forward to by so many (myself not included, thankfully), I can only imagine the raging disappointment this review is going to stir. I'd resent the crack about the low standards horror fans have . . . if it wasn't true. So which are you, Chris, immature manchild or gigantic nerd? I think I'm both, but it sounds like even I wouldn't really enjoy this. Gotta respect you for callin' 'em like ya see 'em. Your critical integrity remains intact.

Thanks, Iggy. Glad you enjoyed the review. I really feel terrible that I'm constantly giving out low scores, but man...there is just a lot of terrible shit out there. I was actually somewhat amazed watching this disc, because when I saw that there were people who not only watch terrible films like The Screaming Dead and Bite Me!, but actually seem to enjoy them and think they're good, it just hammered home the point that there are horror fans out there who will literally watch anything. I mean, I love gore and tits, but come on people...have some standards.

In answer to your query, I'm probably a bit of both, though I lean more toward the gigantic nerd end of the spectrum.

I know how you feel. I LOVED the 1st 2 books I reviewed, and kind of liked the Brett Savory short story collection, but haven't liked any of the others all that much. Except for the travel guide, I doubt very much I would have ever purchased any of these on my own. Reading them confirms why. But, and thanks again to Al & all who helped w/ this by their recommendations, I'm reading tons of good stuff in between reviews. It's out there - in print, at least. Film? I dunno. . . you may be SOL for the most part. We all appreciate your efforts & sacrifice.

Eh, it's not really much of a sacrifice. It's only a couple hours a week (or more, depending on how ambitious I'm feeling), so it's not too bad. Like I said, though, I hate the fact that I sound like I'm crapping all over everything, but I just can't help it. Most of these movies are just so lazy (not to mention flat out terrible), and rely solely on gore and tits in place of any sort of actual substance. While there was a time in my life when that was enough, I really think I've simply outgrown this type of film. I mean, I can sort of see the 15 year-old me at least getting a kick out of the Seduction Cinema lesbian vampire ouevre (not to mention being a big fan of the oft-nude Misty Mundae), but these days I demand a bit more out of the movies I watch. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing.

I think, being more of a reader than a film aficionado, that I demand more from my books than I do from my movies. I can still enjoy a gore fest that doesn't have much else going for it (there goes the immature man child in me again), but I most likely won't buy and add such a film to my collection (I actually own surprisingly few horror films). I freely admit that, film not being my most preferred medium, I can't apprciate films, even my beloved horror films, on the same level as many others here (like you for instance).

Edited to add: Oh, and appreciating the gore fest for what it is is, IMO, not necessatrily a bad thing for me. For somone with more refined tastes in and knowledge of film, it probably is.

Looking back on it, I may be unfair in holding these films to a higher standard, as they really aren't aiming to do anything beyond serving as a showcase for gore effects and silicon implants. At the same time, however, I wonder why people would want to waste their valuable time with stuff this terribly amateurish when their are much better films (including ones that feature gore and tits!) out there.

Crap is crap, and you're 100% right to call a spade a spade in your reviews. There are gore fests that ar good, and some that suck so bad even gorehounds like me don't like them, so low as our standards are, there are levels we (most of us, anyway) won't sink to. If the film you're reviewing has no redeeming value as even a GOOD gore fest, you are encouraged, nay, OBLIGATED to tear it a new one. The only reason we have such low standards as horror fans is because We HAVE TO, because so much of what's out there is just total dreck. We have to lower our standards to have a little fun from time to time. Would that it were not so. . .
