Anyway, tonight I'm going to watch KICK ASS
No worries...I'm just giving you shit. I'm glad to hear it's good, though, as it's been on my most anticipated list for a while now. I thought Kick-Ass was a ton of fun, so I really hope you enjoy it. I'll be curious to hear what you think.

Good to know! I bet you'll like it, it's really cool. I just posted up a bunch of thoughts in the POST RELEASE thread for CENTURIAN (but they're spoiler heavy so be warned).

I'm really looking forward to KICK ASS even though I've disliked nearly every trailer or TV spot I saw for it. I got the feeling they were just poorly cut or were highlighting aspects to appeal to certain audiences and were not representative of the overall film. I trust the CHUD-munity(c) implicitly when it comes to a given film's qualities.

Vintage eurocult sillyness with Jean Paul Belmondo in the spy movie spoof Le Magnifique.

More Bogie!

Deadline U.S.A.

What was Orson Welles' beef with Richard Brooks? He's a favorite.

Crashing (with Campbell Scott) and I might rewatch some of KICK ASS

Just watched Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood (which was really terrific btw with the dream sequences being the standouts), and now moving on to a double-feature of Metropolis followed by Marie Antoinette (very excited to see both for the first time).

Yeah, it's only available for US customers. In any case I just discovered that the Blu Ray is coming out in a little more than a week in the UK, so I'll just have to wait a bit longer and get that.

Next up in the player, Cronenberg's The Dead Zone. I've never managed to see it, mostly because - for whatever reason - I've always been confusing it with The Dark Half.

I started watching Centurion this morning before going to work, stopping after 20 minutes to leave. What a bad idea. I completely forgot the old adage my mother taught me: "Never start a Neil Marshal film unless you have time to finish it." You were right, Mom. You were right.

A killer cast. Kristofferson is the man, and crazy Rip Torn for good measure. Underrated flick. Probably my favorite Alan Rudolph.

Now: "The Wire" Season 3

Fucking Hamsterdam. 4 is probably the best season, but Hamsterdam was such a brilliant storyline.

Watching GONY (2002) while eating calamari and drinking an alcoholic cocktail... it's been a really really long/horrible day.

MAX HEADROOM! I preordered from Shout Factory and my copy arrived early!

Came yesterday, actually. Watched the pilot, which was amazing. Like Twin Peaks you watch this show and just wonder how something so weird could've gotten on regular network TV.

Now to watch more! And then Klaus Kinski in ANDROID.

On deck for tonight: Sherlock, Jr. (1924)
I've decided to make today a movie marathon day, so when I get home it's GREENFINGERS followed by PHENONMENON, and then THE ROAD again, and then if I'm able to set my xbox to get NETFLIX movies, I'll pick something off NETFLIX INSTANT
post #4717 of 5505
MUNICH will spinning on my DVD player starting...now. I've never seen it before.

Definitely. I'm partial to Cutty's arc the most, tho. The scene where he takes responsibility for the botched raid, and tells Avon that the Game he has running through his veins that allows him to do what he does, "I ain’t got it in me no mo'." It gets me a little emotional everytime.

I hope to start Season 4 tonight.

Taking a needed break from work. For some reason I feel the urge to watch THE TOXIC AVENGER on Instant.
I decided to keep the Keaton kick going with Steamboat Bill, Jr.
about to watch HOOK on NETFLIX INSTANT VIA XBOX. I have to say, I'm very disappointed by the video quality. It's like a youtube video. This instant stuff definitely is not at the stage where it could replace DVD deliveries
post #4722 of 5505
I am going to watch some stuff on NETFLIX instant when I get home I think, or else play videogames. I'm not sure. If I do watch stuff on INSTANT, I think I might give that SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND a chance and if it's as awful as it looks
post #4723 of 5505
I finally have the time to watch La Dolce Vita uninterrupted. The DVD has been sitting on my desk for a couple weeks now.
Non-stop laughs & explosions with Bergman Island and Jane Campion's The Piano.
Scott Pilgrim in a few. It's a miracle, because originally, we weren't suppose to get it. Very jazzed.
In a few brief moments, I'm going to head down stairs to NETFLIX INSTANT episode 5 season 1 of SPARTACVS BLOOD AND SAND
post #4727 of 5505
I am about to go watch more SPARTACVS BLOOD AND SAND on NETFLIX INSTANT
post #4728 of 5505
Tonight I intend to watch the following things*:

1) The final episode of season one of SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND
2) Season 4 episode four of MADMEN
3) DOOMSDAY
4) GREENFINGERS

*I also anticipate watching them in the order I've listed here

I am about to hobble downstairs (I suffered a foot injury not too long ago) to watch SECRET AGENT SUPER DRAGON, an MST3K feature available through NETFLIX INSTANT

One of my all time favorite episodes, but then, I pretty much like them all. This one is pretty great, though, especially the Secret Agent Super Dragon song that Joel and the Bots come up with.

Awesome! I can't wait*. When I watched MST3K on TV back in the day, I'd only ever catch the sci-fi channel Mike centered episodes. The older ones were forever out of reach, even as I'd pour over the episode guide and laugh at the descriptions for the films

While the internet and continuing DVD releases have been great for catching up on old school MST, I have to admit I'm sometimes reluctant to put on an episode for fear that it could be one of those flicks that is so dull it's hard to make funny. I no longer have the energy or patience I had back in the day for watching something every saturday morning just because it's on, and so I've found I need to plan my forays to the SOL carefully.

Given the title and description though, this sounds like a winner. Glad to hear that that is your assessment as well!

*I've been waiting as I surf the net, havn't yet started the episode

Sooooo...what did you think?

Also, I was thwarted in my attempts to watch The Ghost Writer last night, but I'm hoping to get to it tomorrow.

CONFESSION: I ended up watching D9 instead, however, today I *will* watch SECRET AGENT SUPER DRAGON later today, and then return here to offer up an extended look at my thoughts on the episode. I intend to watch it as soon as I get home, actually

PS I also am going to watch DOOMSDAY again (which I originally intended to see a few days ago but the disc turned out to be broken in the sleeve), and KISS KISS BANG BANG again
post #4740 of 5505
Watched The Runaways again last night. The movie falls apart so hard in the last 30 minutes.

Still, Michael Shannon keeps me coming back. That guy is amazing.

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts, and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad this afternoon at the Castro.

William Wellman's Track of the Cat starring Bob Mitchum (and produced by The Duke.). TimeOut's review makes it sound a doozy.

Quote:
A magnificently dark, brooding Western - Wellman's second adaptation of a Walter Van Tilburg Clark novel (he also wrote The Ox-Bow Incident) - set during the 1880s on a small, isolated ranch in the Californian mountains, where the depredations of a mountain lion bring simmering family resentments to a head. The god-fearing puritanism of the matriarch (Bondi) has turned sour in her favourite son (Mitchum), brought up to ignore feelings and simply grab what he wants; another son (Hopper), a gentle soul, is mystically in tune with nature; the rest of the family have retreated into a variety of repressions and resentments. Scorning the idea that the marauding beast might be the 'black painter' of legend (spirit of the agelessly old, dispossessed Indian kept about the place as a handyman, Hopper suggests), Mitchum sets out to hunt and kill it. A little perfunctory compared to the novel, where the hunt turns into a dark night of the soul as the hunter gradually realises he has become the hunted, these scenes nevertheless have an extraordinary charge (and weird beauty, with the snowy landscapes shot by William H Clothier in black-and-white on colour stock), reinforcing the subtextual theme that the virgin land is at last exacting revenge on the pioneer who raped it.

After weeks (months?) of unjust delay due to NETFLIX backroom deals with the studios that favored increased streaming titles over release date DVDs, I will at last see REPO MEN

Wish me luck!

I've placed a reservation (via the internet) on CLASS OF THE TITANS from the local REDBOX movie kiosk for this evening.

EDIT: PS REPOMEN was terrible! Ugh

Don Siegel's Escape From Alcatraz.
About to finish up the last 6 episodes of Tanner '88. I'm a Robert Altman nut, but this show really is spectacular, even though I was only one in 1988 and no nothing of the political climate at the time. Highly recommended.
I'm going to watch DARK CITY again, which NETFLIX was kind enough to deliver to my domicile.
Prizzi's Honor, a John Huston joint.
Centurion finally showed up on my OnDemand. So that's at least one for tonight, and I can finally stop avoiding the post release thread.
I'm off to the big city to see Kubrick's Spartacus at the Filmhuset this afternoon. I've never seen it before, so it's kinda cool that my first time will be on the big screen. Just hope the print is a good one.
