Veronica Mars on DVD

I know this show has its fans around here and I'm sure there were threads in the past that I just have been unable to locate. I have all three seasons of the show on DVD and have been devouring them... It's rare for me to get so caught up in something like this, but this show sucked me in. I had the first two seasons just sitting around for a while and picked up the third very recently on sale. Having watched the first episode in the past I made a mental note to get around to it eventually. I finally did and I plowed through season one, followed immediately by season 2, and I'm one disc (4 episodes) deep into season 3 so far.

It kind of freaks me out knowing that it's going to end soon and given the way that the first two seasons end I'm assuming that not everything will be wrapped up neatly with a bow in the lives of those involved, and I know there is a snippet on the dvd set that acts as a preview for what a 4th year might have been.

Anyway, I'm having a blast with it. TV on dvd is a great thing. Does anybody else want to take a look back at the show as well?

After that third season not really. I hear that the network wanted more standalone episodes and less long arch mysteries. But really I don't know if some of their biggest fuck ups were the networks fault like the Logan relationship where he became a depressed loser who was on and off again with Veronica. If season 4 was going to be anything like season 3 then im glad it ended. Althought the first 2 seasons, GOLD. Although would have loved to see that Veronica joins the FBI pilot.

Hmmm... I have heard some mixed tihngs about season 3, but I'm enjoying it so far. It does feel a bit 'off' compared to the first 2 seasons, but then again, I sort of felt the same way at the beginning of season 2 as well when comparing it to the first. One thing I do have to say though... damn I wish Weevil could catch a break.

Ironically, the final episode of season three was probably the best of the year(although I actually liked the dean murder mystery resolution), and should have been the first episode of the season rather than the last. Clearly the problems with the show were due to network input rather than creative issues, considering that they were able to so easily return to form in the series denoument.

If you ignore the horrible third season, this show is up there with Lost and BSG as my favorite shows (not including HBO or Showtime) in recent memory. I'm watching the first two seasons right now because my girlfriend hadn't seen them before. They really hold up.

I stopped watching it halfway through. I'm curious. Maybe if I run out of stuff to watch in a few years...

I love season 3. 2 kinda dragged ass for a while in the middle.

The season 4 test was soul-crushingly bad. It hurt so much to see them try to whip something up to fit in with the network mainstream cop shows, with the Veronica vibe shoehorned in. The Shield guy as the FBI boss was ok, though.

Unfortunately, I'm not of the opinion that the show is a lasting and enduring piece of work. It's extremely entertaining the first time you watch it, but on repeat viewings it comes off as fluff. Brilliant, hilarious, involving fluff.

You saw the Season 4 pilot? Where?

Well after doing a little research it appears I think it's on the season 3 DVD.

Can anyone tell me which disc the season 4 test is on, so I can Netflix it? I assume it's the last disc of season 3, but save me some trouble.

Ok so I finally saw the season 4 treatment/pilot/exended fanct trailer thingy. I am actually torn. I actually dig the premise of Veronica being a full fledged agent and I do like the way it was put together. The problem with it is you have to like that characters and you can't see them develop over 12 minutes.
Plus her father, Logan, and Wevil are all gone. However I would of liked them to explain some of the things that happened between season 3 and 4. Preferably over the course of the entire season in flashbacks like Lost. But who cares because the CW kicked this thing to the curb.

I'm almost done. I'm twelve episodes in to season 3 and it will all be over soon, then I need to figure out where that season 4 thing is (disc 6, I'm guessing). I've been really enjoying myself and now I'm wondering which of my dvd series I'll dig into next... I'm thinking maybe Nip/Tuck, but who knows.

Anyway, I just wanted to add that until I saw mention of it today on the web I had completely forgotten that Kristen Bell had been on Heroes recently, and I actually watched the damn show! Just as well I suppose. Better to be remembered for Veronica Mars than to be forgotten because of Heroes. Hopefully she'll have some good stuff going on in the future where she won't be relegated to a secondary character.

Don't forget Kristen Bell was also on Deadwood for a couple episodes and she was in the movie Spartan. Both very good, especially the Deadwood episodes.

I got the three seasons from Amazon for about 20 each, and it's pretty good so far. I'm beginning S3 right now.

It seems rather funny that Veronica and/or Keith tend to be wrong about the arc mysteries up until pretty much the last moment when it's suddenly revealed. In fact, I don't think they so much solved them as find the one thing that reveals absolutely everything about what happened. Except for maybe the bus thing. Kind of. To try to avoid spoilers.

Oh, and is Weevil supposed to be at least somewhat realistic in terms of gang members/leaders? He seems remarkably whitewashed as compared to the guys in say, the Shield or the Wire. Or maybe because it's because the demographic wouldn't allow for guys like Kern Little or Wee-Bey Brice.

Considering everything that happens right up the end, I'm going to say no.

I finally finished up with season 3. It's a little disappointing the way it all ended, but only because of the knowledge that there is no more show to follow. I haven't gotten around to the 4th year FBI preview bit yet, but I'll check it out soon. It was a great show that definitely had more stories to tell. Too bad... I'm going to imagine that Logan turns out ok in the end, and that everything works out well for Keith too. I'm glad Logan beat the piss out of that guy at the end and it was nice to see him apologize to Piz to. There was definitely a bit of a mess left at the end, but it was a great ride.

If the 4th season was supposed to be the FBI, then it makes little sense unless there was supposed to be a bunch of flashback stuff. A lot of things were left hanging, like the last ID card making machine. Or the Skulls-esque thing.
