James Cromwell's suicide (in Eraser)

On my 30th bithday, 10 years ago, my brother made this mix of our favoritest corny scene in Eraser. Now, we can share it with you.

James Cromwell's Suicide from Eraser

Explanation: Using our Laserdisc players, we would rewind things that seemed funny once, but in succession, over and over and over again, would make us cry laughing. I admit, it takes a certain sense of humor to like this kind of thing, but we've been doing this for years, and this was a highlight.

From a filmmakers perspective, you can really tell how much goes into a so called 'simple' scene by watching this so many times. You can hear some of the best foley work ever (gun hitting teeth), as well as effects timing, and especially the nice touch of paperwork dropping in front of a big fan. Eraser: what a classic!

Jesus. I had to pause this cause I'm at work and I feel like I will get fired.

Great job.

Redonkulous.

The noise Vanessa makes is greatness.

And getting smacked by papers.

I'm still amazed at the amount of blow out is caused by the bullet hitting the glass. As if the office was 98 stories up or some such.

I can't access youtube from work, but I'm giggling already at what this must be like. I laughed my ass off at this part when I saw Eraser in the theater oh so long ago.

Fuck it, I'm leaving work early just to check this out.

It's 5 minutes of minutia genius.

I forgot Cromwell was in Eraser so I thought this was going to be an art project depicting the self-destruction of the guy using only pencil-top erasers.

That'll do James Cromwell...That'll do.

I love movies like Eraser where you have all these great supporting characters that show up, show off their character actor chops, and die after a short amount of time. Eraser is fucking full of 'em.

That was hilarious!

I like the way the blood and brain matter seem to fly out of the back of the chair rather his head

He's practically in every third good film made in the last 20 years.

Amazing...that should be enough to get you into Heaven.

Holy shit.

I've never seen Eraser. I have a feeling it won't live up to that. That was kind of mesmerizing. At first, it's just weird, but you're right, it becomes successively more hilarious as it goes on. It's that drag queen vocal styling that Williams does that really makes it work.

So is this office on the space shuttle or what?

Mr. Allen, that is a work of art.

So what's the time code for when this gets funny?

Not being in the film industry and not fully understanding what foley work is and why it would involve audibly mixing in the sound of a gun hitting someone's teeth just prior to suicide but having a thorough knowledge of firearms makes me wonder why you would think the sound you hear is the barrel hitting his teeth and not the clicking of the hammer?

My apologies for that run-on sentence.

I'm with you man. The editing ruins it for me. Had it been the suicide over and over and over, etc., I could deal.

He has been erased.
