Here's the thing. I recently purchased a great Philips 23" LCD TV. No complaints, it is a fantastic bright colourful picture.
My 9 year-old Pioneer 515 player still works fine. But I thought about buying an upscaling DVD player, so that my DVDs can look the best possible. (No cash for a PS3 or blu-ray player right now, especially at UK prices.)
But after hunting round the net it occured to me that the LCD tv should do the upscaling -because how else could the images be shown on the increased resolution? A few forums seemed to confirm this - a good quality HDTV will do a better job of upscaling (or upconverting) than a cheap / mid-price upscaling dvd player. They both have the upscaling chip. In fact, some said that two lots of upscaling will make the picture worse.
Can anyone confrim all this? thanks
