I got engaged this week! Looking at an October 2009 wedding date, so there's plenty of time for her to come to her senses.

I will now accept congratulations, lamentations, and mockery.
I say 'congrats, sir', but allow me to drag out this one important fact: your chances of surviving one round of Russian Roulette are better than having a long and lasting marriage. And the consequences of failure in each instance are comparable.

Okay! Brought the room down, I'll be over in the corner, crying into my drink.

Sucker.

Not to be the guy who quotes Kevin Smith, but why buy the cow when you can get the sex for free?

Nope, done free and clear of any procreative incentive.

May the force be with you. See, because you like STAR WARS.

Congrats!

Congrats!

So, is this gonna be a Star Wars wedding?

Remember: On your wedding night, she gets either ass-to-mouth or a fisting. No questions asked. They expect it.

I was going to ask the same thing.

Or maybe a Universal Studios Wedding.
Still time enough for us to try and steal her away! Keep an eye on her, Dickson. The CHUD Wily Womanizer Wedding Wreckers (C.H.U.D.W.W.W.W.) are on the case and throwing in the pool for who bags her first.

I got engaged once.

October '09? Seems like this has been in pre-production forever. We are at least entitled to a teaser by now, or at least footage of some sort.
Congratulations.

For the record, I've been married for just over two years now, contrary to the naysayers, I have nothing but good things to say about the institution (aside from the fact that gays can't join, which sucks).

Seriously, congrats, and welcome to the "wonderful world of sex only on holidays (but not the ones in which you overeat)"!

EDIT: And I seriously hope she has a name worthy of an awesome newspaper wedding anouncement: DICKSON/KUNTZ or some such.

Oh, hell, you mean that's a universal thing? Are there, like, support groups?

Oh dear god no.

We're looking at something simple, outdoors, and decidedly non-religious.

Unless you're going for a small wedding/reception, spring for a decent band. Few things are more depressing than a dj at a wedding reception. Live music makes a difference. Plus, if you're lucky Steve Buscemi might be the lead vocalist.

Congratulations, good sir. Here's hoping she remains blinded to your faults and enchanted by your charms.

Dickson/Foarde. Sounds like a car dealer.

But enough about the wedding night, what about the ceremony?

Congrats.

It does, but not the euphemism I hoped for. Not to late to call it off. I think DICKSON-CLITZ has a certain ring to it.

Congrats. Don't let the bitter single people around here cloud your judgement. Getting married was one of the best decisions I ever made.

My wedding is set for April of '09. And she may let me have a Star Wars cake topper. We shall see...

Oh yeah, congrats Richard!

Make sure it's a Luke & Leia topper, with the words "Lucas Raped my Cake!" on it to really confuse people.
So what are you putting on the registry? Star Wars toys? Darth Vader Costume?
"Lucas Raped my Cake"

Wonderful!

Gold bikini, baby!

I had to compromise. I got the Star Wars music as we were processing out of the church, and she got this cake topper:

There may be some Star Wars music, but I'm leaning towards something from LOTR.

And ... and I'm thinking about getting our names engraved in Tolkien runes on the inside of my wedding band.

Was it the Imperial March?

I tried to convince the mariachis at my wedding to play it; to no avail... (it was a destination wedding btw)
All I really know is that if we ever have to divorce, we'll have to re-create the "Leia strangling Jabba scene.", with me being the huge fucking victim. It's gonna be thematically perfect.

It was The Throne Room (the music when Luke, Han, & Chewbacca get their medals at the end of the film). We had an organist play it and it fit perfectly.

Is this the woman who likes taking pictures of you "eating" various objects? She's sounds like a good sport if she's even considering that wedding cake ornament.

Depends on what the DJ has in his repertoire.

(Congratulations)

Ask Death Surge, he enjoyed ALL of his weddings!

Congrats Richard, open bar at the reception?

Yes, that's the same one. She's a keeper.

We're thinking just beer, wine and champagne. We're really trying to keep this from costing more than Waterworld.

All that's needed is the ball-gag on the groom doll, folks...

Kidding! Congrats, Dickson!

Congratulations, Dickson. Getting married is the best thing I ever did. I highly recommend it.

A few years ago, Dave and I attended a wedding in which the minister incorporated a lengthy meditation on LOTR into the ceremony. We still make fun of it. I'm just saying...

Now that is the definition of geeky I suppose.

We did the open bar at our wedding. It was surprisingly cheap. 125 guests only cost us about 800 dollars. We had two half kegs of beer (Big Rock Traditional and Grasshopper) left over plus numerous unopened bottles of vodka and rum. Thankfully we could return those and picked up some Scotch and Irish for the gift opening.
