The NOT ON DVD thread - Page 3

Now that I finally drafted it I can chirp in with desiring a widescreen digitally restored Sorcerer DVD release.

Several of the films you guys mention are available on region 2 dvds.
Get a region free dvdplayer.

This was started specifically as a Region 1 thread. And region-free capability loses a lot of appeal without a good PAL-conversion feature.

Eskiya (1996), Turkish. Has anyone seen this or own it on any region? Can't find it on Ebay, Amazon, or even on Region 2. I'm dying to own this.

Get Crazy 1983. It ain't never gonna happen because nobody but me has seen it, but I love this movie and would love to have it on DVD. Shoot, if I could find a decent VHS copy I'd rip it myself.

I mentioned this one earlier. I would love this on DVD.

Who ever said 4 Flies on Grey Velvet, the latest German bootleg looked devine compared to older bootlegs.

I have it, but I guess it's out of print now.

Early in this thread, someone mentioned Paperhouse and I second that. Really liked it on my single viewing of it back when it came out on video.

I can't think of many at the moment that aren't on DVD at all that I'm dying to watch, but I've been waiting for special and/or WS editions of Raising Arizona, Spies Like Us and The Road Warrior for years. What's the hold-up? I've put off rewatching each of those for a really long time waiting for enhanced/loaded versions to come out.
I've always wanted Cop Rock on dvd, but I understand why its not available. It wasn't exactly the most popular tv show.

A friend of mine owns this on VCD, worked on my dvd player, but alas no translation other than that provided by my multi-lingual friend.
Yeah, a Turkish friend of mine pointed me to it, but it's so off the radar it's almost funny. Rottentomatoes doesn't even have a page for it. It's just been a nightmare trying to get it by any means. It's not copyrighted so it's technically legal to download... only thing is is that it's not available even by those means (I'd much rather buy it, as I respect all those who make films, regardless of quality). I mean it's kind of pathetic. I've found copies of Tarkovsky's student films and obscure ass documentaries made by Godard that nobody I know has seen. I've found it in two parts on google video, but there are no subtitles. I think if it comes down to it I'll be downloading the subtitles and making an attempt at watching it with the subtitles opened in notepad next to it, which should be extremely difficult. But, it's all I've got, and I'm dying to see this. The quality is horrible, too. Damn. If anyone has this I'd be willing to pay to have you ship it to me for a week or whatever, upon which I'd send it back.

Holy crap, someone else actually has seen it! I am amaze and stuff... What does it take to get a DVD release of an obscure movie, anyway? Who makes these decisions?

My guess are there are music rights issues and no one wants to pony up dough for a movie no one has heard of.

That's a good one, CaptainZahn. And reminds me, also needed on DVD for the Hemmings completist: Fragment of Fear.

Where the fuck is the Dark City Special Edition? It was announced almost 2 years ago, and we haven't heard anything since. Even the Shawshank Special Ed didn't take this long.
I realize with a bunch of MGM dvds that the Widescreen edition of many a flick still hasn't been put on disc yet.

EDIT: Reminded me of THIS old lawsuit.

Friday the 13th: The Series.

Edit to add the really long ass version of Needful Things that used to play on TBS and TNT. It had a lot more scenes than the theatrical/DVD version.

The Uninvited (1944 film, not the other one) does not appear to exist except on US VHS.
This... irks me.
The second season of War Of The Worlds the tv series. It friggin' had Adrian Paul in it. That's got to count for something.

Have Parajanov's films made it to DVD yet? I've only seen rather poor VHS copies of Sayat Nova and Shadows of Our Forgotten Ancestors, but I'd like to have at least one of his films in my dvd collection.

Kino put out a special edition of Ancestors in February.
Many thanks. I also see there's a Ashik Kerib dvd as well. Haven't seen it, but I'm debating which of the two I'd like to get first...I love Ancestors, but I'd like to see as many of Parajanov's films as humanly possible. So we'll see..

Edit:

Christ, there's a box set. I must have it.

MOVIE MOVIE isn't in release... yet.

And there's a damn good reason THE VIDEO DEAD isn't on dvd: it should've never been released on video.

UNDER THE RAINBOW isn't on dvd. It sounds like a disaster.

In an effort to catch up on this thread -

Someone mentioned Freakazoid!. First season comes out on DVD this summer.

Someone else mentioned Iron eagle (WS). There was a (WS) release on DVD a few years ago. I own a copy. It's bare bones, but I highly doubt there will be a special edition of it any time soon.

On my wish list:

Nightmare Cafe: The Complete Series

Max Headroom: The Complete Series

Jake Speed (This movie was god-awful, but I loved John Hurt's scenery-chewing villain.)

Howard the Duck (Again, horrible movie, but I enjoyed Jeffrey Jones as one of the Dark Overlords)

Bad Dreams

"The State". What the hell, Mtv, you useless waste of, well, everything? I needs my "Porcupine Racetrack" skit.
Some of the ex-members of The State have been saying in interviews that they are currently working on a DVD release of the skit-comedy series.

Yeah, that's been going on for, roughly, 3 years now. Apparently, they've even recorded commentary tracks.

From The State's website:
Quote:
NOTE (March 23, 2008): We are sorry to report The State DVD is STILL has no release date. We worked closely with MTV last year to make a wonderful DVD set with lots of extras, and the DVDs are completed, but they have chosen not to release the set at this time. We don't know why.
I know why. Mtv sucks. They're too busy filling programing slots with reruns of "America's Next Top Model". Yes, I'm bitter.

I did a semi-recent review on the semi-recent French SE release. It's a great 2 disc set. The movie holds up better then I thought it would too.

Also, Possession has been released several times in its entirely uncut form by both Anchor Bay and I believe Blue Underground.

Hardly any true Slovakian films I grew up watching on T.V. have made their way over here. Really wish someone could fix that, as I've really forgotten most of these films and their titles. Frustrating to say the least.

Sorry if I'm seconding (or thirding) this, but I'd love to see Johnny Got His Gun someday. The novel it's based on is a little dodgy (except for the hospital scenes), but the film is all the more desired since it's denied to me. I've had terrible relationships with women this way, and I'm afraid Dalton Trumbo's opus will go the same way...
Johnny Got His Gun isn't that bad. I don't think you'll be that disappointed.

Yes! I'd buy that without a second thought. The Feast DVD was shit too. They had an entire season's worth of behind the scenes footage and the best they can manage for the extras is a weak EPK?
