The NOT ON DVD thread - Page 4

Anyone remember Gorp? A Porky's/Meatballs style teensploitation summer camp movie with Dennis Quaid, Rosanna Arquette and Fran Drescher I remember seeing on late-night Canadian TV like 20 years ago. Apparently the last AIP movie. The trailer's on 42nd Street Forever Volume 3.
I know of it, but I've never seen it.

Still fucking looking for Eskiya. Why is this so damn hard to find? It's one of the IMDB's top 50....crime or thriller films, I can't remember which. But I mean I'm watching Rolling Thunder now, and that is granted domestic, but it's not nearly as well known.

I just posted the following in a Netflix queue discussion here, but thought I might have better luck in this thread. I'm looking to buy a copy of Michael Mann's 1992 film Last of the Mohicans, by the way. Without spending too much money, preferably.

I've caught some reviews on Amazon.com, etc. where some people have complained that the original cut of this flim is not currently available on DVD in the United States and that the Director's Cut is far inferior to the theatrical cut. From what I understand, the only un-screwed-with version available in the US is the VHS version. Does anyone know if this has been corrected and I'm just not finding it? Regarding which regions my DVD player can handle, I actually don't know. I've got an original Xbox. Will it play all regions? I'm asking these questions just in case I need to order Last of the Mohicans from another country.

I'm even more irritated about this as I've been able to scrounge around the internet and found eps 1-8 to atleast view them, but no sign of 9 (the last ep). I know how the film turns out and will gladly pay the $ for PG3 on DVD, but I need to see that last episode, DAMMIT! It was so stressful getting through the others. I need the payoff (besides seeing FEAST in theaters and owning the DVD, which I did and do).

Would have been nice if Bravo atleast had them on their website (as is common nowadays).

EDIT: Netflix says it's Coming Soon, but no date.

Don't forget the laserdisc, which unlike the VHS retains the full aspect ratio. I see those around all the time.

There are two horror films I fully expect to suck but need to see that aren't available in any country on DVD.

One is Joe D'Amato's Absurd (aka: Rosso Sangue, Horrible, Anthropophagus 2, Monster Hunter), and the other is Night of the Demon (no, not the Jacques Tourneur film, or Night of the Demons).

At this point I'd be happy with a bootleg.

God I love Joe D'Amato. All his movies deserve to be released on dvd.

Do you mean the bigfoot film? Hehe, I love the scene where the bigfoot rips off a mans penis.

Recent Peter Greenaway stuff, like The Baby Of Macon and the Tulse Luper Suitcases films (there's a R2 disc of The Moab Story, but I don't know of any others).

That movie is hilarious. It seems like the entire film is comprised of Worst Case Scenario Bigfoot stories. Would make a great double-feature with Harry & The Hendersons.

You can find Night of the Demon bootlegs for sale on eBay.

One of them, Seven Men From Now, is available, and in a nice edition too. There have been public-domain releases of The Tall T, but they're probably not worth hunting down. Ride Lonesome is my favorite.

Another vote for Rolling Thunder

Night of the Creeps (has that ever been officially announced?)

The TV show Longstreet -- just to see some early Bruce Lee stuff.

Samuel Fuller's The Crimson Kimono

The Japanese film adaptation of Haruki Murakami's Hear The Wind Sing with English subtitles, even if it sucks. I think Murakami thought so.

Namesake related wishlist...

Farewell, My Lovely with Robert Mitchum

I had the chance to buy this for five bucks in a bargain bin at Wal-Mart years ago, and said, "Eh, I'll get it some other time." Last time I checked, the OOP dvd went for two-hundred bucks. Idiot.

Marlowe with James Garner

Poodle Springs with James Caan

Either Elliott Gould or Humphrey Bogart, but as with the actors who've portrayed James Bond, I've come to appreciate other interpretations. Yours?

Mitchum, baby. Then Bogie. Elliott Gould's growing on me tho!

Yeah, I have the tape as well. Would have been very appropriate to come out on DVD at that time. Or when MISS POTTER came out even.

LABYRINTH came out in '86 (DREAMCHILD '85) in addition to a bunch of specials and TV stuff.

They couldn't find wooden shoes that would fit?

Dreamchild's puppet FX were handled by Jim Henson's Creature Shop but I don't think he was directly involved-- Lyle Conway is credited as effects supervisor. Henson's last feature film was Follow That Bird and his last project was the Disney attraction Muppet*vision 3-D.

I've never seen that one (or have I?). Sequel, huh? I'll have to track that one down as well. How bout a double-feature DVD?

I love Lovecraftian horror, though. Not enough (especially quality) adaptations if you ask me.

Well, it's got Fred "Timerider" Ward. That's gotta count for somethin'!

Yeah, Anchor Bay can put out a billion versions of the EVIL DEAD flicks (well Raimi does have a stake), but Disney's been half-assed with reissuing the oddballs that AB put out originally.

EDIT: Also speaking of Disney, I'd like to revisit some of their Wonderful World of Disney Flicks with my daughter...

Similarly, I'd love to see ABC release a DVD collection of their "ABC Weekend Special" series. Man, I loved that show when I was little. My particular favorites were "The Red Room Riddle" (which petrified me as a wee lad) and "Bunnicula".
