THE EVIL BELOW ('89)
LORDS OF THE DEEP ('89)

The RIFT was also knows as ENDLESS DESCENT.

Never heard of the other one, but yeah on The Evil Below.

As no one's mentioned it yet, there needs to be a DVD release of Ralph Bakshi's Cookskin, a.k.a. Street Fight. I've only seen it on YouTube, but it was a shorter version. I've love for both to be on the release, as the shorter version actually has a pre-credits scene not in the longer cut; I know, talk about a pipe dream.

I'll second The Super Cops, a film I've never even seen before but have heard rave reviews about.

A widescreen version of Showdown in Little Tokyo would be rad.

The full version of Superman IV (you know, the one that is 2 hours and 15 minutes long) would be appreciated, rather than brief unmastered clips that were on the latest DVD release of the film. Then again, there are longer TV cuts of the other three that we'll probably never see in an official DVD release, at least.

Seeing the uncut Friday the 13th movies... just to see what the difference is. All of them are only on Japanese laserdisc, I believe.

Sure, it's awful, but Skidoo should be on DVD, and in widescreen too.

And finally, I have a feeling that Song of the South is unofficially grandfathered, right?

SPECIAL UNIT 2 (seasons 1 or 2)

It's a genre show from 2001-02. What's the excuse for it not being on dvd? Only 19 eps in total.

SciFi's Site.

The only one with any extra gore/footage available in Japan is Part 1. Even the UK DVD has the (very brief) extended kills. Most if not all of the censored gore from the other parts (especially part 2 and 7) is most likely lost forever due to Paramount's refusal to give that franchise any respect whatsoever.

Which also reminds me, Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child was unrated on VHS, but the DVD is the R-rated theatrical cut.

I'd love to see this movie, I'll second the idea.

Even more than The Town That Dreaded Sundown, I'd like to see another of director Charles B. Pierce's films hit DVD: The Evictors, which sounds sort of like Straw Dogs meets The Changeling and stars Jessica Harper, Michael Parks, and a still benoggined Vic Morrow.

Apparently The Green Slime was available in pan and scan, but is now out of print in R1. There's, also apparently, a Japanese disc that rocks.

"The Green Slime ARE Coming"?

Is that even proper?!? Can Slime be both singular and plural?

Gleaming the Cube, my taped off HBO VHS is really showing it's age.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete: Season 3 seriously fuck Nickelodeon for giving up the first two seasons and leaving the third out. That's just fucked up.

THE OUTING (AKA THE LAMP)

I saw this one late night years ago. It was like WISHMASTER meets THE GATE (but probably cheesier than both).

I like that the bottom-most girl does not look terrified so much as though she's having the time of her freakin' life. She's thrilled to be saying goodbye.

It's almost like that pic you can get after riding the rollercoaster. And they even super-imposed the evil genie around your family, for maximum framing effect:

The FX mini-series Thief, starring Andre Braugher, for which he won an Emmy.

I swear I've seen Melting Man available on DVD, though it could've been a UK release. Seriously, as a horror fan you owe it to yourself to get a region free player.

Also, I caught Grim Prairie Tales on TV a few month back and was bored stiff.

Absolutely!!! I've been saying this since it ended... it boggles my mind.

Also, does anyone know why Ferarra's vamp flick The Addiction never got region 1 availability? Walken, Lili Taylor, Annabello Sciora, Edie Falco... the cast alone should be enough to justify it. I saw it on IFC years ago and loved it.

Tartovsky,

I know you've written this a while ago and i don't know if you've had any luck tracking the Eskiya dvd down since then. There's a a US website called Tulumba that sells mostly Turkish stuff that includes Turkish movies as well. So the good news is they have a listing for the Eskiya DVD (with English subtitles). The bad news is that they don't have it in stock right now. I don't know if it's temporary thing or maybe it's out of print but it's worth a shot to contact the website and get more info on that.
