Pirates of the Caribbean Four

It seems just like The Matrix everyone loves the first Pirates, but when it comes to the sequels opinions are mixed. I say they were fun, but too convoluted.

We all know the rumors for a 4th film, now this:

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there's been unsubstantiated talk that a fourth film would go the other way completely...think in terms of ultra fantastical (dinosaurs, Jules Verne-esque floating fortresses, etc.) Not sure how I feel about either notion, to be honest. Not sure if I even care to see a fourth PIRATES film at all.

I'm not sure which route they should take really. Right now I want them to just say "screw it" and make the most ridiculous thing in the world.

Atlantis? or Fountain of Youth?

The mention of a Cars 2 makes me highly skeptical of that story. It took a hell of a lot to get Pixar to make Toy Story 2, and they've had more successful films than Cars they haven't made sequels to. I just don't see them churning out another Cars movie.

We've been hearing rumors about a Cars sequel for awhile now. So...that article didn't exactly "break news" or anything...besides the 2011 release dates.

Personally, I think the smart thing would be for Disney to wait off for another year or two before any additional Pirates sequels moves forward (i.e. hiring writers). Despite their huge box-office, audiences were pretty mixed and/or negative towards DMC and AWE and you don't want to risk burning em out on this franchise.

There was a post a while back where Devin basically outlined how a Pirates 4 would go. The only thing I remember is that it involved a chase for the Fountain of Youth, Seminoles, and lots of meta-humor about Disney and Florida and how Orlando is a goofy name.

Predators.

I would think Cars 2 is being put on the fast track* to being made cause it's Lassetor's baby. As for Pirates 4, Atlantis would be a nice approach to freshening up the sea faring but after the conclusion of AWE [Which I despised] why wouldn't it be the Fountain of Youth. Aqua de Fina would be the fourth movies title if America didn't hate the French oh so very much.

*Wasn't intentional.

Cars 2? Ug, the worst film Pixar has made(has it's moments, but mediocre overall). I can see why though. That movie is a merchandising machine.

If they have to do the Pirates 4 thing. Strip it down, strip it way down. The first was fun, yeah, but it was still overlong, and it just got worse from there.

About halfway through the second film I lost track of how many movies I'd watched. Those things just kept going.

The only way a fourth Pirates would interest me is if it was a live action remake of Knighty Knight Bugs with Depp as Bugs and Rush as Yosemite Sam. I mean they've abandoned all pretense of a story by now, might as well go all the way and have nothing but gags in the movie.

Jack Sparrow should go away, and make place for a real pirate.

Guybrush Threepwood.

Man, i'd love a Threepwood movie, but Barbossa kinda stole LeChuck's thunder, no? And you can't have a Monkey Island film without LeChuck.

*Goes to sob in the corner for another 15 years*

Also, the Moonlight Serenade sequence from Pirates 1 stole the thunder of this:

They are completely re-vamping the red-headed step child of the Disney theme park empire in Anaheim over the next few years, and the crown jewel is an elaborate Carsland. So it makes perfect sense they will try to time a sequel to coincide with the completion of the project.

And Nexus is right. The merchandise for Cars has eased the pain of the underwhelming box office take on the first film. They are at the point where they are releasing figures from the movie so obscure that the back of the packaging tells you where to freeze frame the movie to see the particular character.

Yeah, believe it or not Cars is apparently the most profitable movie of all time for Disney in terms of merchandising.

Pirates 4 would be great around 2011, get some more Depp roles in between, and strip it down to Barbossa and Depp racing for the Fountain Of Youth. Also I even think a change of director would help rather than hinder the series as AWE was clearly showing Gore was more worried about creating a Production Design masterpiece than a coherent plot.

An adult Guybrush Threepwood bringing Captain Jack Sparrow out of retirement to find Monkey Island and destroy the vampire (we need some new blood on the undead front) Captain LeChuck before he casts a spell of eternal night over the Caribbean would be awesome.

Or terrible. Like PoTC3 terrible.

LeChuck being Barbossa's long lost brother. Tom Wilkinson needs to voice Murray. And I want the three pirates with their rat, the sword master from Melee Island and shit.

Young Guybrush could take the place Orlando Bloom had.

After Guybrush finds Captain Jack in a Tortugan bar:

"Who are you, boy?"
"My name's Guybrush Threepwood, and I am a pirate."
"Really?"
"Well, I want to be a pirate."

Natural rubber's been around for years, right? I need a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle!
