One of the reasons I'm happy to be in the Caribbean at the moment. Our local Radio Shack downloads pirate movies and shows them. Hell they even show people how to download them if they buy internet service from them (the island has wi-fi pretty much everywhere).

Back in college I got one of those letters for download Meet the Parents. Yeah, nothing happened in terms of fines, just an e-mail saying don't do it. An idiot did download a couple files and got kicked out. Seemed be only Universal movies they were monitoring.

Notice how they only prosecute for fucking terrible abominations. I'd almost think they were trying to save you from yourself. Or "Well, he doesn't know his Meet the Parents from his Harold and Maude, let's lock this fucker up."

The only real heavy-lifting I've done pirate-wise was downloading the entire Larry Sanders Series.

But, HBO can suck it on that one because I'd have been MORE than happy to fork over money for all of them if they'd simply get off their asses and release it. I bought the First Season and Best Of like a good boy.

That time it felt good to steal. Other than that, my pirating has been limited to the odd "ironic" music selection that I just didn't care to fork out money for.

I read somewhere that there's complicated issues regarding the music that's used in Larry Sanders that prevents the whole series to be released on DVD.

That's okay, I watched all the episodes on youtube a couple of weeks ago. Best series out there.

There's been a few mentions of it in the UK media recently about the ISPs just targetting the major downloaders on their networks - whether legitimate or not, and sending them a generic warning letter.

It's meant to be some kind of deterrent and i'd imagine it'd put quite a few people off illegal downloads. Namely the people who aren't doing it in the first place.

I have a friend who got a letter (in TX) and it was for Battlestar, too! And I think another friend posted a pic from a coffeeshop in TX where they had a sign up asking people not to use their wifi to download Battlestar.

They must really be watching for that show on the torrents.

Only as complicated as money.

But as I said, now that I found really good quality versions on the Torrents, I'm not so bitter. I finally have the whole series on DVD.
