I've only ever seen a few of the episodes of the anime, which is alright I guess. It seems like a good concept for a movie, I'll probably check it out.

I've seen Death Note 1 & 2 (They aren't exactly sequels, but a literal follow up of the same story) and the L-Change The World Spinoff movie.

The Animie and Films differ in a few ways. Especially in the fate of L. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

While I’m not a fan, something I’ve commented as much on one of the foreign films thread on the two movies, it is an interesting concept and a fairly clever story of cat-and-mouse between the protagonist and his antagonists.

However the biggest problem I have with the movie(s) itself (other than the fact that everyone including the audience themselves seems to miss the fact that they are actually happily cheering on a serial killer) is the main actor. You know there’s a problem when the extras exude more presence and charisma than the main. That irks me more than anything else, why couldn’t they have someone who could actually act?

From what I heard from some fans though is at least with the two movies, it didn’t suffer the problem that the anime series and books did. Namely it went on for 2 to 3 times too long.

When you mean the main protaganist, do you mean L or Kira?
L at least looks visually interesting, while I admit Kira is rather bland.

I think the movies had the right idea in terms of plotting. The Animie really dragged when they brought in Near and Mello after L's Death. Near is practically L lite. They even admit it.

Kira absolutely. Though L really really isn't that much better though his quirks makes him a ever slightly more interesting as a character. Still can't act though.

By the way, skip the L-Change The World spin-off film when it comes out. It's a completely different plot from Death Note. It continues from the movies but there are only a few cameo appearances from the Shingami Ryu and Miya show up.

Give it a miss.

I liked the Death Note series as a whole though. You have to admit L and Kira are really smart. Kira makes a formidable villian at least.

Awful film, I bought tickets to see Death Note and the sequel and ended up giving the ticket to the sequel away to some random guy.

Please elaborate. I know I hated it for the “Edward Furlong Effect”, the lead actor was so bad it ruined the whole film for me.

It's kinda cute I suppose, but there's only so long you can watch a pissy little sociopath outwit the entire fucking world.

You plan on reviewing this thing for the site Alex?

Possibly. I really would have liked to see the original version rather than the dub, but we'll see... I definitely want to check out the movie.
