Any Malkmus fans in these here parts?

I might. I loved his solo debut but couldn't get into Pig Lib.

RollingStone gave it 4.5/5 stars.

Pavement was great, until Terror Twilight. I hated that album. I have no desire to know what comes after.

But if the Rolling Stone album reviewing algorithm computer has determined from a mixture of Internet buzz and press releases that this new album is good, then it must be.

Its really good, if you liked Wowee Zowee.

If Kyle hated Terror Twilight I can only assume that he despised Wowee Zowee. I haven't been impressed with any of The Jicks' studio work but I've seen them live four times and have always been blown away. I listened to RET last night and was not tempted to buy it in the slightest.

I dig it. Not as good as Face the Truth, (his best solo) but still pretty good. I mean, it's got Janet Weiss on drums! How can it not sound good? Malkmus still really loves to jam in his solo career, which can be a turn off for some, but the band is super tight on this record.

Whoever said they're passing on Malkmus' solo stuff just because they didn't like the last Pavement record...you're missing out.

Terror Twilight = unfairly hated. Cream of Gold is such a great song.

I picked up his new one (thank ya, emusic), but I haven't given it a listen yet. I don't get into Malkmus's solo stuff as much as I did Pavement's, but each of his solo releases have at least a handful of songs that are great. Heard this new one is kind of jammy, but Weiss being on it is indeed exciting.

Stop making me love you. Don't forget Major Leagues.

His first solo album is what got me into Pavement.

I got this today. I really like it, although it reminds me a lot of his stuff from I'm Not There, which is how I was exposed to him. There are songs in here where he just seems to be parroting/copying artists directly (like the Velvet Underground and psych-rock stuff), but he does his own thing with them and it works. In a strange way, this is a serious version of all those "style covers" Weird Al would do, but I'm really digging it. It grows on you, that's for sure. My favorite track so far is probably "Gardenia," followed by "Baltimore." And the arrangement on "We Can't Help You" is better than me.

Rath, please tell me you've listened to the Pavement albums.

So far, I'm digging this record. I don't remember anything so bluesy or thoroughly classic rock from Pavement. Although, I'm not familiar with all their records.

It kinda reminds me of Televison's Marquee Moon with Malkmus lyrics. The way the title song comes together at the end especially. I'm still digging it. He's playing in Boston tomorrow and I'm going to try and go.
