Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Cancer, Five Weeks Left to Live

Atlanta, GA 3/05/2008 03:05 PM GMT (FINDITT)

Patrick Swayze, best known for his role in Dirty Dancing, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told that he has just five weeks to live.

Swayze, 55, has been sick with the disease since he was diagnosed in late January with pancreatic cancer. The cancer has since spread to other organs and now the actor/dancer is dying.

For the past month, Swayze has been traveling to Stanford University’s prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful, according to the National Enquirer.

Swayze received three treatments of chemotherapy, causing the tumor to shrink, but less than his doctors had hoped for. He was then told that he should prepare for the end.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

On an related note, DVD sales for Road House increased by 300%.
Somebody should start a thread for Enquirer-sourced articles.
There goes my "Britney Pregnant again?!" thread
post #11 of 199
If this is some sort of Road House curse then Sam Elliot might be next. And I don't want to live in a world without him in it.
The day that Elliot leaves will be a sad day for mustache lovers everywhere.
Does this mean he won't be around to see another Patrick Swayze Christmas?
Perhaps Chris O, Perhaps. But I can tell ya that so long as their is love in our hears and booze readily available, there will always be a Patrick Swayze christmas.

I heard a rap cover of "She's like the wind" yesterday. I should have known that something bad was going to happen.

His friend will teach him the ropes on being dead.

I will gladly sacrifice all of you to keep Patrick Swayze alive. No joke.
The Road House "sequel" should be enough to make Swayze roll over in his grave. But 5 weeks is enough time to film a proper sequel, no?
It's one thing to read this on the internet, but I had someone actually EMAIL me this bit o' news.

Like I'm a Swayze fan or something.. sheesh.
I used to fuck guys like him in chemo.
Patrick Dempsey, Anthony Michael Hall, and now maybe even Andrew McCarthy all got their chance to reinvent themselves and thusly reawaken their careers, and now he's certainly never getting his, so I guess I'll be the first to say that I'm a bit saddened about this.

We actually get to reserve a spot on The Dead Celebrity Thread for Swayze, that is so fucked.
That fucking sucks.
oh come on! this can't be true!!!...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
post #24 of 199
I've never heard of the news source in that link, and the link in the Dead Celebrity thread was from the "always-truthful" National Enquirer. So I'm hoping it's just a really shitty rumor unless it's confirmed from someplace reliable.
This thread is an exact and perfect representation of how fucking ugly the internet can be.

I guess you've never seen Black Dog. He doesn't do high kicks.

In my defense I really do think someone should contact Don Swayze.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I grow up I want to be Moltisanti.

From one reputable source to another...
From FoxNews.com

FOXNews.com's calls to Swayze's reps were not immediately returned. But a "very good source" reportedly told blogger Perez Hilton that Swayze has seemed fine lately.

That's bad. I mean, I hate Fox News, but they're one of the main news stations. If one of the networks is reporting it, then this really blows. Poor Johnny Castle.
No news of this on CNN as of yet, although it did pop up on Swayze's article on Wikipedia. I really hope this story is false - pancreatic cancer is fucking awful (lost a friend to this awhile back).
Pancreatic cancer is generally rapidly fatal (and painful). That sucks. Hope he can have all the morphine he wants until the end.

But the Wikipedia article references the Enquirer article, so it's really not much of a confirmation.
A man is dying of cancer and you're all making fun of him?
Some of you are just as heartless as the puppy-throwing marines we were complaining about yesterday.
Must be an American thing.

When I read it earlier, the article said "several news sources" - likely was updated, thanks for the heads up! But yeah, until I see it announced on CNN or the news tonight, I'm still skeptical.

Freedom of speech? Yeah, I'd say that's an American thing. (High fives next person to walk by me)
People are shitty, Sneakypete. Some shitty people are okay with how shitty they are, and seek out other shitty folks, and in doing so get confused about whether or not they're even being shitty.
I just read his rep has confirmed it.

Patrick Swayze REPEATEDLY diagnosed with cancer

All joking aside, this news sucks.

I feel bad for the guy. Not only is he diagnosed with a horrible cancer and given 5 weeks to live, you just know the poor guy is going to be hounded from today until that fateful day with papparazi looking to get that 'Patrick Swayze on his death bed!' money shot.

Sad news indeed.
Someone at VH1 is pitching Patrick Swayze Has Five Weeks To Live as a new reality show right this second. I'm sure of it.

If you want a place to go where people throw out a lot of "too soon"s and "RIP Sweet Prince"s I can suggest some other film sites.

I don't feel as though anyone here is being particularly nasty.
