Spot on review, Alex. I AM a strong proponent of the Horrorfest, and this was one of the best films at last year's. I agree w/ every point you raised, especially how the creatures are some of the best CGI to come along in awhile, and how they (and the plot) lose a bit of their power when the mystery is lost. But you are absolutely correct that the acting and story are above average, and you just HAVE to see how this ends. Because of the comic book-y aspects of this film, I don't know if this would be the one I'd buy from last year's fest (I try to buy at least one every year in support of the 'Fest's goal of promoting DVD sales, because I'd like to see the 'Fest continue). But it is quite possibly a "better" film in almost every way than almost every film from the '06 lineup. My brotehr liked this film a lot. He said he'd probably buy it when it became avaialble. I'll have to let him know it's come out.

Thanks! Yeah, I was really pleased with this one, especially since it was the first I tried out. We'll see how the others are... I tried looking for the old thread to see your reactions to the films but think it's gone.

Probably should have noted- these are all being released on the 18th.

Oh, and by the way- we're going to be running a great contest soon- can you say Horrorfest Box Set? Oh yeah.

If I won that for free in a contest, that'd be cool. But I'd never pay for all those films. My prediction: you'll probably like "Borderland", because it's well acted & well filmed, but it isn't anything new or innovative, you won't like "Tooth and Nail" except for the Michael Madsen cameo, You'll HATE "Lake Dead", "Nightmare Man" and "Unearthed", and it's a toss up how you'll feel about the rat movie (I can't recall the name, sorry).
