Going down for an interview at the Film school this weekend. Looking for suggestions on places to eat, things to see, bars to drink at.

Anyone?

I'm at UCF. So close, yet so far.

Don't go to film school

I take it you're talking about Florida State, and not Fresno State. Good luck graduating - I had a bunch of friends (25+ people) that lived in Tallahassee and went to FSU, and only about half actually graduated*. Compare that to roughly the same amount of people I knew that went to UF (a harder school academically) that had almost everyone get their degree. Believe the hype about it being a party town - had some of the best times of my pre-hangover life there...

*Most transferred somewhere else to complete the degree, but a couple just never made it.

Ah yes my friend. Haven't been a student down there in a while, but I still make it down to Tally 2-3 times a year for games and the like. I hope your interview goes well.

As for places to eat and the like, like many college towns they change quite a bit so I can't vouch for too many. Ones I know of that are still open include the downtown Po' Boys location. Great patio and good food. Tennessee St. is the main bar strip. BullWinkles is a great bar with a huge outdoor multi-layer deck. Gets a bit of an older student crowd. Yianni's is your typical college dance club/bar specializing in cheap drinks, good looking women and late 80s/90s bass music. Floyd's music bar generally has good bands and great live shows. Big Daddy's and Bullwinkles also have live music with a more local flair than the bigger names playing at Floyd's. Generally the bars are all congregated together in the "Tennessee Strip" area or downtown near Clyde's.

Take some time to walk around campus. For a large state school the campus is pretty small, which makes it easy to see a lot of it quickly. Be sure to check Westcott (official entrance to school), the Stadium Center (Doak Campbell stadium and the new and improved baseball stadium are awesome) and the Student Union.

As for the city itself, it isn't much outside of state government and the colleges. When we were in school when we wanted to do something outside of the standard college nightlife or the like we would go out to the Rez (the FSU Reservation for canoeing, sports, etc.) or drive out to Alligator Point or one of the crystal river sinkholes for swimming.

The sinkholes were great, but I don't think they let people out there anymore. I think someone got hurt jumping from the trees (picture I took of my friend jumping from one of the bigger ones), and they try and keep people from going there.
