Factor in 200k for the music, minimum...the probable 500k she'll see for some exclusive, weepy interview with OK!, the book advance, the lifetime made for TV movie...there's some serious bank to be made here. If she's smart, she'll do just fine.
Oh, I have no doubt that she'll make a lot of money, but I really don't see her as the type to seek out wise investments, put some of it away, and live modestly while letting her money make more money for her. And once her singing career is a non-starter (note to aspiring singers: Pro Tools can turn a bad singer into a mediocre singer, but it can't work miracles) and she fades from public memory, I doubt she'll have a lot saved to live the rest of her years out on.

Maybe that's a harsh value judgement, but nothing I've read about this girl inspire hopes of financial responsibility.

And I was reading this article once about all these lottery winners that went through sometimes as much as 20 million dollars in the span of a year and had nothing so show for it. So I just can't ever underestimate a person's potential to waste money.

Holy shit.

EDIT: Did some research and found some sad but fucking hilarious nuggets:

Quote:
For a lot of people, winning the lottery is the American dream. But for many lottery winners, the reality is more like a nightmare.

"Winning the lottery isn't always what it's cracked up to be," says Evelyn Adams, who won the New Jersey lottery not just once but twice (1985, 1986) to the tune of $5.4 million. Today the money is all gone and Adams lives in a trailer.

William "Bud" Post won $16.2 million in the Pennsylvania lottery in 1988 but now lives on his Social Security.

"I wish it never happened. It was totally a nightmare," says Post.

A former girlfriend successfully sued him for a share of his winnings. It wasn't his only lawsuit. A brother was arrested for hiring a hit man to kill him, hoping to inherit a share of the winnings. Other siblings pestered him until he agreed to invest in a car business and a restaurant in Sarasota, Fla., -- two ventures that brought no money back and further strained his relationship with his siblings.

Post even spent time in jail for firing a gun over the head of a bill collector.

Within a year, he was $1 million in debt.

Now compare them to this guy:

DOUBLE EDIT:

Damn, this lottery stuff is fascinating. This guy takes the cake in loser-ville: http://www.karemar.com/blog/lottery-...nners-all-time

It's not surprising that lotto winners so often meet with financial ruin. If I had to compile a list of "ten warning signs that a person possesses an IQ that renders them unable to function in modern society" I'd put regular participation in lotteries pretty high up.

It's basically an iron-clad indicator that a person is incapable of making intelligent financial/life decisions.

True, but I suppose it depends. How many winners played the lottery on a regular basis...? Those fuckers are suspect. But what about the guy who played once and got lucky?

Basically, all the winners play on a regular basis. Why? Because compulsive lotto players and work-place pools buy 99.99% of the tickets. Lottos appear to be something you either are intelligent enough to avoid, or not.

They only time you see a significant percentage of new players is when the jackpots get extraordinarily big. But it's still not statistically significant. This issue has been researched to death (google it) by people attempting to demonstrate that lotteries are a fundamentally flawed, horrible idea. You're victimizing those who can least afford to throw their money away on a rigged system.

Please allow me to argue a contrary position.

From a pure risk/reward standpoint, buying a lottery ticket is a no brainer. You are risking one dollar, an insignificant amount, and the potential award is enormous.

On the other hand, lotteries are a tax on people who are bad at math. Do you really want to be one of those people?

Arguments like this are how I'll amuse myself on that desert island some day.

It is a "no-brainer" that you shouldn't gamble in a game where the payout represents one percent of the odds of your winning. I think lottoes actually have even worse payout percentages than that.

That's why I back the come line, baby. And the lottery doesn't bring around free drinks.

Shit, I throw a buck or two at the lottery once every few months. Nothing wrong with that. It's the habitual morons who are chasing a pipe dream. That dollar buys you basically 15 minutes of "Man, if I win I'm so quitting my job and buying every DVD ever made..." reverie.

You have no idea how much compulsive lotto players (and they buy an extraordinarily large percentage of the tickets) play. It was truly frightening in the Bay Area to watch people who needed every dime they had toss away hundreds of dollars at a time on lottery tickets.

The lotto is the real stupid tax. Sure playing once in a while is no big deal. Check out the regulars who play it though, the elderly (desperate to win so it can solve all their problems) and the uneducated (actually think it is a decent possibility). The people who constantly play the scratch offs are just plain crazy though (or half a gambling issue). The price is more, the prize way less, and better odds than winning that the best prizes are already won. Sure your odds are better, but if your going to hand your money over, you should at least have a chance to become rich.

I've only heard bits of this story, but if he did indeed bone that, I eagerly await the release of his biography Eliot Spitzer: Tranny Fan
