South Park Season 12 - Page 2

I'm actually rather shocked more people aren't on board with this ep. It's some of the best dark satire the show's ever done. Ironically, while they were funny (especially the Invasion of the Body Snatchers bit), it's the movie references and the Latin chant bits that break the flow.
Agreed, Justin . . . I thought a good portion was dark and disturbing as hell, while still being laugh-out-loud funny. I felt like the real meat of the show was the first 20 minutes, with the final 10 minutes of movie references providing a breather.

Not a great episode, but I did crack up every time 1/5-headed Britney tried to speak.

I didn't laugh every time, but it did get funnier every time. And the MTV Award performance was pretty great.
I'm with Justin, I can't believe more people don't fucking love this episode. I especially love the whole Miley Ray Cyrus bit: "Looks like next harvest will be even better.Kratos nemi nos santos!"
My favourite part of the episode? The fake Britney Spears song they cooked. It was so perfectly formulaic that if her people had any brains it'd show up on her new album.

"The way she feee-eeels!"

Episode 1203 Press Release

From today's Comedy Central Press Release:
SOUTH PARK PAYS HOMAGE TO THE 1981 FILM, "HEAVY METAL"
IN AN ALL-NEW "SOUTH PARK" ON
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26 AT 10:00 P.M. ON COMEDY CENTRAL

NEW YORK, March 24, 2008 -- The boys are worried when Kenny starts experimenting with the newest way to get high in an all-new episode of "South Park," entitled, "Major Boobage," premiering on Wednesday, March 26 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on COMEDY CENTRAL.

Kenny is skipping school and the other boys are sure it's because he's hooked on the latest drug craze that's popular with the junior high and under crowd. Meanwhile, Kyle's parents become concerned that their son is getting high when they find contraband in his room. To illustrate just how high you can go, "South Park" pays homage to the 1981 movie, "Heavy Metal."

Hell. Yes.

Expectations = raised.

Taking a cue from Hulu, DailyShow.com, and the ABC player, South Park Studios now allows you to view almost every episode of the show for free. The quality is actually really good and, unlike the Daily Show's website, allows you to fullscreen the video and the new episodes are unedited. Limited ads of course, but nothing too obtrusive. Nice to see this trend growing.

If you lived in LA the Britney episode might hit closer to home. I mean besides the absurd amount of paparazzi and all that, Britney would be on the local news every day during the bad spell. It was fucking ridiculous. I'm shocked the boys would do something that defended her. Especially after they went after a number of her ilk.

I imagine that's what the first act of the episode was addressing.
Well according to the mini-commentary before the episode, the Paris Hilton episode was about how children's clothing stores were using her image to sell merchandise, which is a different approach than simply mocking the trainwreck.
I think I may have just watched the greatest episode of South Park ever made.
That episode was boobtastic.
What the fuck, TiVo? Seriously. What the fuck you stupid piece of shit box. I have a season pass to South Park and you record every fucking episode they show regardless of it saying RERUN. Then come Wednesday, when there is a new episode, you record the rerun before it, and then decide "Nah, this episode doesn't look good." FUCK YOU!!!!!!! If it wasn't on again in a half hour I'd beat you to death with a bat. Don't cross me again, TiVo.
I have a true love for Heavy Metal so this episode was heaven for me. The fact that they had the same music from the movie and every scene showing titties was great.

You didn't have to live in LA to get the brunt of this shit. She made the local news here as well. Couldn't turn on a fucking TV without seeing her face, or the face of some jackass 'expert' talking about her.

Did they really defend her? It just seems that they were saying leave her alone, she's fucked in the head. Yes, they made a deeper point about the media and the publics complicity in accelerating the destruction of some of these personalities, but that was the gist of it.

That Heavy Metal episode tonight is one of the weirder South Parks I've seen. A good episode, but not up to the level they've been operating on for the last few seasons. The Cartman Anne Frank stuff was just, I don't know, too easy for them.
I think Randy had the best line the entire episode.

"And you never get a really good look at her naked boobs anyway."
Never seen Heavy Metal, and as such didn't care about this one. These three haven't been great for me. They usually have at least one per mini-season that totally blows the doors off though.
That was legendary.
That was pretty awesome. It's been years since I've seen Heavy Metal, but it's not like I actually forgot any of it. The only thing that I would have added was a scene where zombies were attacking Kyle's dad. I would have loved that.
Loved it, but was mildly disappointed by the lack of Orb of Loch-Nar.

Liked how they managed to squeeze Heavy Metal, Schindler's List and Eliot Spitzer all in one episode.
I don't watch this as much as I used to, but I still find it funny. The more fucked up it is, the more I laugh.

I think it's more the idea that a lot of the things they went after, say, Paris Hilton or Tom Cruise for is stuff that came about no matter what the paparazzi were doing, calling a spade a spade. The difference in this episode is, while any judgement calls about Britney as a parent/musician/human being are still right there in the background (the MTV performance in particular), anyone who'd wish being hunted day and night by sycophantic little parasites with cameras waiting for someone's personal train wreck to happen on their worst enemy is a fucking monster, and that's far more horrible than anything Britney Spears has done lately.

I loved the look on Kyle's mom's face during the press conference. The rest of the episode was hilarious as well.
Did they actually steal frames from Heavy Metal? Because the space-convertible looked exactly like the one from the movie, right down to the not-enough-frames-per-second animation.

And speaking as someone who never liked that movie, their spoof of it was so spot-on perfect that it actually made me want to watch Heavy Metal again, to see if maybe I'd enjoy it now on an ironic level.

I haven't seen Heavy Metal either, but that didn't diminish the episode for me one bit. I still lost it when Kenny took the yellow mist to the face for the first time as well as the way Gerald had his device rigged up. Not the best episode ever, but still an all around great episode.

Believe me, it's even funnier if you've seen Heavy Metal, which is a movie that actually feels like it was written by 10 year-old boys.
The whole thing was worth it just for the cut from the Breastiary to the sandbox.
Seeing the cat in the baggy made me piss myself. The rest was just ok. A bit slow.

I was waiting for them to try to flush it down the toilet. Kyle's dad being unable to resist it was much better.
If they would have thrown in a "I learned it from watching you!!" line, I would have completely lost it.
Fantastic episode. I love the press conference at the end.

The absolute funniest thing I've seen on South Park in a long time.
I've never seen Heavy Metal and I still loved the episode. Let me echo the love for the sandbox scene. As Schwartz said, the cut made it.
I loved Cartman saving the cats like they were Jews in Nazi Germany. "Here, Mr. Kitty. Write a diary."
It's rather odd how Cartman's cat changes genders based on what they're doing. Unless he kills and replaces his cat ala Kenny.
Here's the Heavy Metal opening credit sequence for everyone who's never seen it.

And the B-17 sequence for good measure.
I've spoken to my dad and a younger person who both have never heard of Heavy Metal, had no idea anything was even being referenced, and they still laughed because well, Kenny inhaling cat piss and seeing trippy animation about tits is funny.
Never saw the movie, enjoyed the episode.

Best bit was Butters trying to console Kenny while some of Kenny's puke was on Butters' face.

I wanted to see the movie my entire childhood because the poster/box promised something amazing, epic and new. I ended up watching it when I was 17 and thinking it was boring and horrible. I watched it again last night after seeing this episode and I actually dug it. It's a bad movie, but it's fun, the first story is actually a good/stupid noir thing, and the all-over-the-place nature of it made me a forgiving dude.

Thank you, that thing on Netflix that lets me watch movies on my laptop.

The look on her face was a parody of Spitzer's wife:

I do think the WWII bomber segment is the one effective sequence in the film. The rest of it is just deliriously juvenile. LOCH-NAR!

Stellar episode...what is up with all of these chewers proudly proclaiming that they've never seen HEAVY METAL? Being fanboy/nerd/hipster enough to post on CHUD while never seeing HEAVY METAL, weird.
I haven't seen Heavy Metal either. But loved the episode. Specially Cartman's "here, write a diary" and the spitzer's ending.
