Condemned 2

Haven't picked this up yet, but I'll have it by the weekend I imagine. Anyone else tried this yet? Any plans for a front-page write-up?
There are plans. I've had a debug copy for a while but it's been a problematic disc. I've got retail now and will get something up once I can play more, but I'm absolutely slammed today and tomorrow. Friday for this, I hope.
The reviews I've seen so far say the game is pretty solid, with Game Informer and IGN saying that the MP isn't that great. But GameTrailers.com says that it's pretty good.

I have one question: will my avatar still walk at a snails pace, run in slow motion (and be unable to run more than ten steps without becoming exhausted), and have a one second lag time between hitting a button and an attack actually commencing?
Yeah he still walks slow. The running seems better though. Hes quicker and doesnt get tired so soon. And im not too sure about the button lag. Im only an hour in and still havnt gotten used to fighting. Timing your blocks is still a pain in the ass. And the distances that enemys can swing and still make contact seem to be longer than yours. But other wise its not bad. Definatly alot more action based but still creates a great atmosphere.

On a side not, i dont know if its just my TV, but this game gives off alot of trails/ghosting. The goo in the game does it the worst, if im moving it will look like it changes color a bit. COD4 did it alittle and it was just annoying, on Condemned is makes the game almost unplayable. If anyone else has this problem lemme know.

Oilytown is oily.
Well damn, maybe i should just give up now......
Took this to a friend's during the power outage and finished it. Seems like it went by faster than the first, but in reality they're probably about the same length.

But where I was almost immediately compelled to play the first one again, I can't see myself going all the way through this one another time. I might hit a few levels over again just to grab a couple achievements, but I'm not going to do the full playthrough on hard or in FPS mode.

Multiplayer tests and review tomorrow.

Almost finished with the rev; the more I think about this game the more I hate it. Not because of the mechanics, which are fine (and often much improved) but because it is so fucking dumb.
I was really close to buying it. The first one was good for a once-through. Loved the atmosphere and the tactile nastiness of cracking someone's jaw with rebar. The more I find out about the sequel, the less interested I am.

Picked this up yesterday and I'm loving it so far. Am I in for some letdown?

P.S. -- I only paid 6.99 for it after some trade-ins, so it's almost like a rental for me. But it's already had some good scares, and I'm just getting to the "policework" bits.

Was I the only one ready to tear his hair out in frustration at how slow your avatar's movements were in the original Condemned?

Yep. Just you.

That's right, I used an emoticon. Wannafightaboutit?

That's you on the left.

I don't have anything to add to this conversation (as I just couldn't get into the first Condemned and thus the odds of me picking up the 2nd are slim to none) BUT I absolutely love that pic Overlord. Such smug satisfaction with the slap.

And to derail even further, I love HBarr's avatar.

And Overlord, you do realize you can adjust turning speed (at least) in the Options menu, right?
Overlord, that last post totally made my day. Thanks!
My pleasure.

Ouch. I was hoping at the very least that it would be a sequel that wasn't up to the level of the original, but was still really dumb but gory fun. Doesn't sound like they even achieved that.

I just hope Monolith doesn't screw up Project Origin personally.

Jesus. I'm glad I didn't blow a bunch of trade-ins on this one. Horror games still don't have an ace this generation.

am I the only noe that can see everything in that page except the review itself?
It's back. I tried to add a couple images and the CMS burped, killed the whole text. I no touchy anymore.

I love ya Russ, but so far I'm agreeing more with IGN's take on the game. Admittedly, though, I haven't had a chance to get very far in it. You've got me all worried now, dammit.
Got this in the mail today, but my enthusiasm has been robbed. Thanks, Russ.

I agree with this review on some levels, disagree on others (as I do on Chud reviews most of the time).

*The combat has been greatly improved - considering this is a melee game, that is a good thing!

* 'Digital cancer...' Totally disagree; I am 4 levels in, so the newscaster acting must get worse. For me, they are not that bad at this stage - and you can choose to ignore them.

* I agree the dialogue is a bit 'lowbrow' compared with the first. In fairness, this is a character not on his game, but I could have used one less Motherfrogger and more intelligent words from the characters.

* Voice acting is standard for a game and NOT that bad - I would have prefered the original cast, but not my call

* 'Condemned 2: Bloodshot is a game to be enjoyed by children and morons' - comments like this remind me why Chud reviews will never be taken seriously by many - including myself. Its like you people wake up and say, 'how can I piss someone else off today?'

What scares me about these boards: people come here and actually read Chud reviews that are filled with amateurish nonesense with some very valid points throw in, but then the review ends with: its crap. So, highly improved combat on a game that depends on combats scores a 2 of out 10!?!?!?!?

what a joke

Not if you want a gold ranking and therefore the best/most useful upgrades.

Unacceptable. 8-bit graphics were once standard for games. Would you accept 'Adventure' quality graphics and game design in an Xbox360 title? No. There is not a single reason to hold video game voice acting to a lower standard than I hold for Pixar films.

*Enraged* MOTHER, FUCKER! AHHHHHHHHHHH! *sickening thud*

That's why I love these games. Those bums do rage like no other game enemy.
Im liking this one so far, but I give it to Russ that the plots either dumbing down or becoming too weird for the game's own good.
Also, why so much hate on the Doll Factory level?

Is the first one still worth picking up, considering there are now many good games to play on the 360 compared to the launch lineup?

I'm asking because I was interested in getting the sequel but Russ' review completely changed my mind.
BOTH are worth getting. But its best to start with the first. Its a bit old and itll probably show its age, but its still damn good and its definatly alot more tense.
I just replayed the first game, and I enjoyed more now, than I did - it holds up incredibly well

I am just about done with Condemend 2 and the CSI elements do take a stronger importance in this game.

With all due respect to Chud and Russ's review, the 2.0 he gave the game is crazy. This game is an easy 8.0. Is it a bit weird for its own good - yes, and it holds it back from being a 9.0.

How can you not love the Cabin level - that level alone is a pure joy - easily as fun as anything in the first game. The levels are very well done, and the story does get pretty solid in the second half.....

A 2.0 score out of 10 is given to broken games that work on No level - this game is very well done, and worth the $49.99 (thank you Gamestop $10 off coupon!!!)

People that read the Chud review are being given a very skewed, narrow minded view on a pretty darn good game. I am not sure where the hate came from (after reading it), but a very subjective view nonetheless.

I believe you meant the review is subjective. Wich is why I read CHUD review. If I wanted to know if a game works or is broken, I'd read the 50 other reviews that are on the net. Reading Russ' review, I got a more personal opinion. The way he reviews that game is much closer to the way I react to games. I tend to get pissed when a game doesn't have attention to details and is dumbed down.
To be honest, the Condemned review is the only review on chud i havnt agreed with yet. Its definatly not a bad review, it just as as you said, a personal review. But if you put it in perpective with all the other mediocore stuff thats coming out, its the best there is.

Thankfully, I'm not that desperate for a new game.
