I was very excited to see the American Reunion movie. I saw American Pie just after college and remembered it was quite funny.
Jim, Michelle, Oz, Heather, Stifler reunite for their high school...
Obama on stem cells, and the separation of politics and science:

"By doing this, we will ensure America's continued global leadership in scientific discoveries and technological breakthroughs," he said. "And that is essential, not only for our economic prosperity, but for the progress of all humanity."
The news that Chuck has been renewed has been discussed elsewhere on the boards but I provide the following reasons for mentioning it here and posting the link to that interview:
a) it's sad that the "fucked up news and events" threads are so huge and this one is small
b) it's my birthday, dammit, so I'll do what I want
Not necessarily good news, but ineffably cool. From Neil Gaiman's blog:

Tonight I had dinner with Henry Selick and friends, and bumped into Mr Miyazaki and the Studio Ghibli crew outside the restaurant, so got to introduce Henry Selick to Mr Miyazaki, which made Henry happy. A wonderful San Diego moment.
Sidney was sentenced to 15 years for robbery. "I am in prison for thinking crime was the only alternative for success and keeping a tight grip on a destructive, nonproductive lifestyle," he says. "I've learned that I'm not as impatient as I thought I was. I've gained an option to take this skill, further my education and pursue what has given me a sense of purpose."
A dog that went missing from its owners in Brisbane nine years ago has been found alive - in Melbourne.
RSPCA Victoria officers rescued the badly-neglected pooch from a backyard in the southern capital while investigating an animal cruelty case.
To their amazement, they discovered the dog was microchipped and were able to track down her original owners.
Muffy, as she is called, vanished from the home of her Brisbane owner Chloe Rushby, 17, nine years ago. They will be reunited in Brisbane next week.
Ms Rushby was only eight years old when Muffy disappeared.
Her mother Natalie Lampard said the family, which now lives on the Gold Coast, had given up hope.
"I left Muffy with a friend to look after...and she wandered off," she told ABC Radio.
"I never thought she'd come back. It's unbelievable."
"I'd say she's about 13, 14 (years' old now)."
Ms Lampard said inspectors in Victoria had contacted her with the amazing news.
"The RSPCA left a message on my phone...they had a dog that had been microchipped in my name. I rang them and realised it was Muffy.
"(Chloe) can't believe it, she's over the moon. They were inseparable."
How Muffy came to be living in a squalid yard 2000 kilometres from her home is a mystery.
The couple who owned the yard, currently under investigation, told inspectors they had found her as a stray.
RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said it was likely she had been picked up in Queensland and had been taken to Victoria.
"It would be very unusual for a dog to travel that far on it's own. The whole thing is unusual, really," he told brisbanetimes.com.au.
"The original owners obviously did the right thing by having her microchipped in the first place. It wouldn't have been done too often nine years ago."
Mr Beatty said Muffy was suffering from a skin condition but was being well cared for in a Melbourne shelter.
I'm glad Muffy made it into this thread. I just hope Muffy has enough life left in her to enjoy what is hopefully a happy reunion for her as well as the former owners.
The fact that this guy took time out of his day, and put so much energy and emotion into helping a bird that most people just consider a pest (when most would just pass it by with maybe a "poor bird") is amazing.
Bush tried to plant a oak tree on the White House lawn, and the earth itself rejected it, refusing to allow the tree to grow. It had to be pulled up and removed, as if mother nature had tasted something foul and spat it back out. Guess the idea of a guy whose hobby is deforestation ("brush clearing") doing a tree-planting photo-op didn't sit well with Gaia..
Obama managed to plant a tree in under a minute and with a mere nine strokes of his golden shovel!
Observe the slack-jawed faces of those who wittnessed this John Henry like feat:
This could go anywhere really, since the poor woman in the story got stood up before her wedding, but I put it in the Good News thread because she clearly turned it around. It's great that she did something so incredibly kind, even though she was hurting.
Okay this story is pretty awesome. If only she could talk, the story's she could tell:

A BRAVE young Aussie warrior who went missing in action during the heat of battle has been found safe and well after spending a year in the Afghan desert.
But ''Sabi'', a black Australian labrador, aged around four, is back home now on the Australian base at Tarin Kowt.
Sabi was rescued by an American serviceman who suspected she was not an enemy combatant, but a highly-trained hairy bomb sniffing Digger.
It's Lassie Come Home, Afghan-style.
Sabi's job in Afghanistan has been to work with Australian Special Forces in detecting improvised explosive devices.
The plucky canine had been missing in action for more than a year and all hope appeared lost, given that she had disappeared into the desert landscape of Afghanistan's south.
She went missing during a battle that led to Australian SAS soldier Trooper Mark Donaldson securing a Victoria Cross for holding out Taliban insurgents.
Nine soldiers were wounded during the encounter, and the party got separated from the dog during the fire fight. Sabi's adventure saw her picked up and incarcerated by enemy combatants before her rescue by the US soldier, identified as John.
Back on the base yesterday, Sabi appeared composed and relaxed, posing for cameras and meeting Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and US General Stanley McChrystal.
She showed no signs of stress, and welcomed strangers with a sniff and a lick.
Speaking from London, Trooper Donaldson welcomed the returned of Sabi. ''She's the last piece of the puzzle,'' the soldier said.
''Having Sabi back gives some closure for the handler and the rest of us that served with her in 2008. It's a fantastic morale booster for the guys.''
Woof to that.
...what can I say? I'm a sucker for the good news stories about dogs.
China's Yu Pengnian made a fortune in real estate, and now he's giving it back. The 88-year-old tycoon has slowly been transferring his wealth to his Yu Pengnian Foundation, and now he's gone the final step, pledging his final $470 million in cash and property to the charity.
This makes $1.2 billion he has put into his charity since he opened it in 2003, according to China Daily.
"This will be my last donation. I have nothing more to give away," he said at a press conference announcing the final donation.
The Yu Pengnian Foundation funds cataract surgeries for people in China. More than 150,000 surgeries have been performed in the last seven years. It also provides other monetary support for people in China's poorest regions.
Yu has several children, none of whom will inherit any of his fortunes, a move he says his children agree with. "If my children are more capable than me, it's not necessary to leave a lot of money to them. If they are incompetent, a lot of money will only be harmful to them," he said.
Cameron is a rather prolific individual; when he's not revolutionizing cinema, he's planting 500 000 trees in Hati or comuning with the worlds only fresh water seals (which reside in Baikal)
PS Baikal is the worlds oldest and deepest fresh water lake, and I am extremely jealous of how cool his B-Day will be

I swear that picture looks like The Hindenburg coming into dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey.
