It's finally time to buy a 360

And I'm given two options:

THE XBOX360 ELITE:
- HDMI Support
- 120GB Hard Drive
- It's black and fancy

THE XBOX360 PRO:
- HDMI Support
- 80GB Hard Drive
- $100 Cheaper than the Elite

At face value, logic says the Pro, as it does have HDMI and I can get an extra conroller and COD4 for roughly what it would cost just to get the Elite. But how fast does HD space fill up? Am I going to want that extra 40 gigs (especially when I buy Rock Band and get into the whole world of DLC)? If the extra $100 isn't really an issue is it cheaper in the long run to get the Elite as opposed to upping HD space later?

Forget the Elite. It will probably break before you can fill up that much HD space.

Well from what all I've read since launch day, how is the Elite's risk of breaking any worse than any other 360?

I have the 20GB hard drive and I rarely drop below 8 GB of freespace. You can re-download anything you buy in the marketplace, so you'll REALLY have to go out of your way to fill up 80GB.

Ehh i'm just busting your balls but honestly you probably won't need all that HD space.

I've never actually met anyone who does this, but the idea of the 120gb hard drive is for people who purchase tv shows and movies from the live store. If you see yourself purchasing LOST every week from XBL, maybe you might want the elite.

I've got an Elite and it is full of demos that I never plan to actually play, yet I've still only used about 40 gigs.

I probably will be doing the movie thing fairly often. I'm in love with the idea of On-Demand so, since my cable service doesn't offer it, this is a very attractive feature.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Pro only has a 20 gb HD, unless there is a new model coming out.

Honestly, I'm starting to have a little regret over buying a 360.

Here's what I've had to pay so far:

In May 2006

1) XBOX 360 Pro console - $400
2) Wireless Adapter (which didn't even work with my wireless-N router) - $100
3) Best Buy service plan - $60

In May 2007

1) New Pro console(RROD) - $0 (Best Buy plan)
2) New Best Buy plan - $60

In October 2007

1) Xbox Elite (RROD) - $50 after credit for my previous unit
2) BB service plan - $30 after pr-rating my previous service plan

After I add up all of the money spent on consoles, I could have bought a PS3, with built in wireless and a Blu Ray player for less. And the damn thing probably would not have broken once.

If I were you, I might make sure that Microsoft has actually fixed their problem before spending any money on one of their consoles. From what I've heard, it might still be years away.

Valid concerns but my counters are:

- My wireless router sits right next to my entertainment center with an ethernet port, so tethering the console isn't an issue.

- The majority of problems (as far as I can tell) were with consoles bought on or around launch day (or at least in the first to second waves), which is part of why I waited so long to get one.

- Obviously I don't doubt the validity of the claims being made, but the only place I've ever encountered 360 problems is on the internet. Everyone I know personaly who owns the system has had zero problems with it.

- Granted, the PS3 does have the Blu-Ray player, but 99% of all the CHUD gang (and all but two of my IRL friends - which include a few of the CHUD gang, actually) are on LIVE and I wouldn't be surprised if MS released a Blu-Ray peripheral for the XBOX soon.

And if it is in fact that hard to fill up the HD then I think the 120 may be the way to go. It's only an extra $100 and I like the idea of having virtually infinite space (based on what you guys have said). Plus, and I know this is retarded, the fact that it's black is actually a bit of a selling point. It's sleek and fancy.

Even with the movies, you can delete them when you're done and re-download them at a later time without having to buy it again. Unless you just hate the idea of having to redownload something, there's no reason to go above 80GB.
