If folks want to get together on an older server, I suggest Landy, unless folks want to get something going on one of the news ones. As far as I know server traffic has been restricted, at least among the new servers and the big 3.

Landroval is fine with me.
Being as my character on Gladden is only level 6 I got no problem with rolling a new one on Landroval. I will do that tonight sometime.
I rolled a new character on Landroval. Name is Kyleron, look me up. Just mention that you from Chud.
Just rolled up Calenmaethor on Landroval, Elf Champion from Mirkwood.
Ooh, I'll try and download the game and hook up with you guys this weekend if that's alright.
I'll be on tonight I reckon - unfortunately tho that'll probably be relatively early morning for my fellow American chewers.
I actually had a small queue logging on to Landroval last night. Never had that when the game was pay-to-play.

I think they're doing the shipwreck quests this weekend. It's in Evendim, just outside Annuminas, a relatively high-level zone, but you can avoid the high-level mobs by sticking to the roads and then swimming up the Brandywine River. The quests start outside Buckland, iirc.

My name is Tayter if anyone can find me...
Oh yeah, my characters name is Isolwulf.

I should be running around Landroval for the next hour or so.

boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew
Well I've been through the introductory Archet missions and have to say, I'm hooked - this game is a lot of fun for sure. Amazing that it's now essentially free. I may end up investing in a subscription at this rate tho.
Yeah I whispered you twice Rain Dog and you didn't respond. What's up with that?
Someone did a breakdown and compared to what you'd have to pay ala carte for certain features and content, it's worth paying the monthly subscription.

Wait - what??? Is 'whispered' an MMORPG term I don't know? If you did see me in Landroval and I missed you Taylor I apologise, I'm still getting the hang of this online rpg gig. LOTRO is popping my cherry.

Is there some icon or sign I'm meant to see when someone is trying to contact me?
It should show up in your chat window.

I'll be on and off this weekend, either working on my new hobbit burg Riggins, or my guard Battaan (who I snuck in under the transfer deadline).

Sylrien. Friend me >.>
Man, the tv commercials upped the server load this weekend BIG time.

I love all the assholes saying "Whaddya mean I gotta PAY for some stuff?!?! They said this shit wuz FREE!!!"

Great for the Moors action though. The freeps are ranking on the greenies and the veteran creeps are using the greenies as fodder.

My guardian made the mad dash through Moria, from the West Gate to the East Gate, for the 'In the Footsteps of the Fellowship' deed, with assorted orcs, warg riders, morrovail, and other nasties right on his heels the whole way. Daylight was never as sweet.
I still have yet to vist the Mines. What's the suggested level range? Can a small fellowship make it through?

I think folks hit the Mines levels 50 and up after you get your legendary weapons or items. You pretty much have to grind there levels 50 to 56 to get into Lothlorien. Most of the content is soloable, but I think people group up for raiding instances in there.
Thanks for that info.

Anybody else besides me already buying points and spending them to open quest areas and xp bonuses, etc.? I think all MMORPGs should go this route. I can skip the game for two months and not worry about the fee, and then jump in and spend however much I want for additional content. Seems kinda brilliant really.

If rumours are true, it has saved Lotro's bacon. We just might see Mount Doom.
I have a lifetime account and have been burning through my points grandfathered to me. I have reached for the credit card a couple of times, only to put it back down. I will eventually buy some more points.
Hey, any of you kids need help with book quests? I've got my 65 minstrel to cart you around, and I've been aching to do something productive ingame for a while.
Just putting the word out. Me and a few guys from another board started a kinship in the Withywindle server in Europe. So far it's ultra casual and considering most of our ages and family status isn't about to get hardcore in any way, but everyone's nice and nerdy.

So if any European Chewers want in, log on to Withywindle and send a tell to Bregham so I can invite you in.
Well, my human Guardian is up to level 56, having a blast tooling around in Moria. I'm on the Gladden server, character name is Claude Miles (after my grandad). I mostly solo and play co-op with my roommate, but am open to any adventures.
Haven't been able to play this much lately -- been beta testing a certain distinguished competition's upcoming MMO and doing NaNoWriMo -- but I do want to get back to it.

They just announced the next expansion will include Isengard and a new PvMP map. *drools*
post #83 of 97
Made it to 65, and I've been doing nothing but the Epic 'story' quests. Some of these are, if you'll pardon the expression, fucking amazing. The Narmeleth/ring quest in particular gave me goosebumps, and the rewards were great.
Yeah, a lot of the Epic storylines really do immerse you in the world and its characters. For whatever faults it may have, LotRO more than compensates for them with some of the best interactive storytelling in the MMO market.
Fucking agreed. I looooooooved the first volume with Narmaleth. I still need to finish the Moria volume, and I refuse to do any of Volume 3 until that's finished. (I was bad and did the Mirkwood Chapters, and *those* were *epic* Loved the Hidden Guard storyline)

Have you guys tried out the new intros and Winterholm? I'm of mixed opinion - I agree that revamps were needed and are great, but I really don't like the shoehorning in of so many LotR characters now; I adored the Hobbit Tutorial/Intro, and I hate how they changed it. I loved the shot of the Black Rider off in the distance.

ISENGARD! OMGOMG

However, there is supposed to be a pretty big content patch/update in the first quarter of 2011 along with the new anniversary stuff.

I was just amazed that they could do that new winter festival zone but we've been languishing without a new PvMP map for a few years. Turbine has always been up front that PvMP isn't a major selling point for them, fair enough...But a lot of great players have left, and continue to go, to games like Warhammer for that PvMP rush. I hope the new map and other bits will bring people back.

Second the love for the epic storyline. When you find out the identity of that major player towards the end of volume 1, and how it ties into the Lotro lore - home run.

And I think some players' fears about FTP hurting the game have been proven unfounded. More players are signing up all the time, to pretty much positive effect IMO.

So last night I'm bored, fucking around on the computer, and I see a news piece about LotRO on one of the videogame blogs I read regularly. I'm strictly a console gamer. Have never played an MMORPG in my life. But I figure, what the hell? Let's give it a shot. I begin downloading the game and go watch a movie. Couple of hours later, I boot it up, start an account and create a character. I play through the first mission and go to bed.

This afternoon, I fire it up to tool around with it a little bit, and within 20 minutes my PC is infected with crippling spyware. First time I've gotten any in about six years. First time my new PC, which is three years old and well protected, has been infected ever. It was brutal. Pretty much locked up my whole computer. I had to find a solution on my laptop, download a executable that would erase the spyware, then run it via a USB stick while my PC was in safe mode.

So to get to the point: Is there anyway I didn't pick this up from playing the game? (No problems until today, and I wasn't surfing the net when the spyware hit -- just playing LotRO.) Are there known cases where hackers or whatever have used MMORPGs to spread spyware? Are there steps one should take above and beyond to protect yourself while playing these games? Anyone else ever have a problem like this with LotRO or any similar games? Or was it all likely some terrible coincidence?

Hmm, I have tried three times to post here and the java tells me to keep waiting.

I have played LOTRO for 4 years in February across 4 computers and never had that issue. I think it is just a terrible coincidence.

Since goint free-to-play a few months ago, LOTRO's revenue has TRIPLED.

I'd say the writing is on the wall for any MMO without the word Warcraft in the title.

Bioware might have something to say about that.

I don't know, there have been some worried rumblings about the state of The Old Republic.

Which could be true. Or it could be the same "rumblings" that indicated RED DEAD REDEMPTION was going to be a disaster.

We'll see. Obviously, I'm no expert on the genre. But even as a non-MMORPG player, THE OLD REPUBLIC is a game I've been keeping a close eye on. Because it's Bioware. And because it's STAR WARS from Bioware. There's got to be others out there like me, right?

Oh, I'm with you.  I just think anyone who thinks they can go toe-to-toe with the Blizzard behemoth these days is fooling themselves.  Especially with how Cataclysm so thoroughly revived World of Warcraft.

No doubt you're right about that, Dickson. Best-case scenario: Bioware carves itself a commendable slice of the pie.

I've never played an MMORPG and am almost allergic to playing games on computers, but since going free-to-play I got interested in trying this. Then I realized it wasn't Mac compatible :/

You might be happy to hear that there's work underway (for the Q1 update, even) to make Volume 2 soloable.  There's more over on www.casualstrolltomordor.com and I think they even provide a link to the discussion on the LOTRO forums.

I've been playing LOTRO for a little over a year now.  I'm still very much addicted.  I read through the thread a bit, and it doesn't seem that many of you are on Elendilmir.  I've been tempted to try out Landroval, but with a lvl 65 hunter, a lvl 55 captain, a lvl 40 minstrel, lvl 32 lore-master, and lvl 20 guardian...  Well, I don't really relish the thought of starting over.  Especially considering all of the crafting experience/resources, etc. I'd lose.  I'm a little obsessed with crafting.

Anyway, it's always cool to see fellow fans about.
