I seem to recall that a few Chewers swear by the Drive By Truckers. They are playing at one of my favorite venues in May (Jannus Landing http://www.jannuslandingconcerts.com/home_v1.htm) and I am tempted to check them out.

What album(s) should I check out before seeing the show?

Tough question. Probably their most recent album, BRIGHTER THAN CREATION'S DARK. SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA's just a must. The problem is that there's a few albums with Jason Isbell, who was a co-writer at the time. He left the band to go solo and I don't think they perform his stuff in their shows. I'm of the opinion that Isbell was the best thing about the group when he was a member, although I'm sure others would disagree.

Might want to check out this thread.

Decoration Day and the Dirty South are easily my favorites, but since you're seeing them on this tour, it would probably pay to check out the new one, Brighter Than Creation's Dark, since they seem to be dedicating a lot of the set to it. It's probably my fourth favorite of theirs (after the two I mentioned above and Southern Rock Opera), but it's still pretty good.

I came in to check out the discussion in this thread, but it's over. You've got the most-needed albums listed.

Thanks all. I'll pick up their latest and perhaps one of the older ones. Unless I'm really put off by the album, I'll plan on checking them out live too. Can't go wrong for $20.

I can just about guarantee you'll get your $20 worth out of the live show.
