Stellar news.
can I buy my tickets to it now? KKBB was one of my favs of the past few years (and my wife loved it too).
Where do I sign up? The more Black, the better!
No one does character names this side of Tarentino like Black.
Really, best news in months.

We just need to know the cast.
HOORAY
I was hoping Shane Black would get another chance to write/direct ever since I saw KKBB during it's one week run in theaters.
Shit, yeah!
I read the news, and immediately got the urge to pop my KKBB HDDVD into the player. I've seen that film about 5 times, and it was just as entertaining yesterday as when I first saw it.
Oh, and Beaks: that excerpt is pure gold. I'm so jealous of you for having read the script.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE KK,BB and want more Black, but the synopsis sounds just a little too much like the shenanigans in KK,BB. Not that that's bad. Just...similar.

FUCK Yeah!

I saw Black at a local screening of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang a few weeks ago and honestly felt sorry for him -- he seems very down on himself, kicked around by Hollywood after The Long Kiss Goodnight. He's a really funny, intelligent guy, though. It was great getting to see him, especially with such a fun film as that one.

That's the first I've heard of Shadow Company - I hope Devlin/Emmerich paid Black royalties on Universal Soldier.

I'm just going to assume Shadow Company got turned into Lethal Weapon.

God damn awesome news, I managed to drag my then broke ass to see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang when it was unceremoniously dumped into theatres and loved every minute of it, not only that but saw it with a packed crowd too. Glad to finally hear Black's back in business.
Yeah, just wanted to chime in to add to the chorus that this is great news. I was, in a nerd-like fashion, reading Kiss Kiss Bang Bang quotes on the IMDB today at work. Hopefully this flick will got a proper push rather than of the shrug-nudge Kiss Kiss got before hitting DVD.

Awesome. Black deserves so many more projects than half of the dolts that end up being backed by the studios. And even if it does seem strikingly similar to KKBB, I'm sure that it'll still be a beautiful thing.
That worthless waste of human, that fucking hack Emmerich gets 200 million dollars for his next waste of celluloid and Shane Fucking Black struggles to even make a movie? Absolutely shameful.

And to all those who haven't paid to see KKBB. Fuck of and die
post #18 of 32
Great news, and this has made me gain a bit of respect for Silver.

The Coens have them both beat.

What drunk stelios said. I can't believe that Akiva Goldsman gets all kinds of deals for work that could be duplicated by a 12 year-old meth addict, and Shane Black gets shat on all the time.

Unless Lethal Weapon involved zombified vietnam vets terrorizing the U.S. of A. while the last surviving member of their platoon tracked them down (and hey, I haven't seen it in a few weeks so maybe I'm forgetting something) then you are assuming wrong.

Yet another sign of Whitey being incharge.

Black is back! Fuck yeah!!!

This project sounds like fun. That said, anyone heard anything on that horror movie he was writing as his original follow-up to KKBB? I guess he's set it aside for now. That or he couldn't get it financed.

Oh, and speaking of Shadow Company, where in the hell can I get a hold of a copy of that screenplay?!?!?!?!? As a die-hard John Carpenter, Shane Black, and Fred Dekker fan, I must read it!!!
I would love to see him get Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer back together for this movie.
Why must online journalists constantly tease me about Shadow Company in their articles, obviously having read it themselves, but never make it available in some form to the readers themselves?

Why must you all torment a diehard Carpenter/Black/Dekker fan so?!?!?!?

Been a while, but I wanted to update.  Attended a staged reading of "The Nice Guys" at The Austin Film Festival in October.  Thomas Jane (Hung, The Punisher) was cast as Holland March opposite Peter Weller's loveable curmudgeon, Jackson Healy.

For more on the reading:  http://www.movies.com/movie-news/shane-black-the-nice-guys-aff/5133?wssac=164&wssaffid=news

Although I found myself caught up in the fast-paced action and smart-ass dialogue of The Nice Guys, it really is all about the guys.  Not so much of a problem if we don't need a few gals to make the plot work, but Black and Bagarozzi's story depends in large part on its chicks, and its chicks are two dimensional at best.

The cast of the reading did a terrific job bringing the page to life, and Black himself was key in moving the story along with his deft reading of the action.  I think the problem lies in the writers' avoidance of the darker places from which much of the comedy arises.  Black and Bargarozzi run the risk of losing their audience because the story refuses to go where it needs to in order to win us over completely.  In part, It needs to dip into the truth of its female characters more to boost its credibility.  I think March would especially benefit from having a daughter who's, well, more real.  Doesn't need an overhaul, just a few genuine moments to remind us that we're still in the very real, plausible world of The Nice Guys.  It ain't a bad place to spend a couple of hours, just needs a dash more heart.

That reading sounds fucking awesome!

Really, really good news. KKBB was fantastic, and it's been a real bummer not getting any new Black stuff since. Between this and Iron Man 3, it sounds like the famine's ending and the feast is about to begin.

huzzah. I loves me some KKBB and recently showed it to the GF who loved it just as much.

Well, don't hold your breath.  Word has it that The Nice Guys won't be seeing production anytime soon.  It's a shame, as judging from Black's loyal fans (you, you, and... yes, you, too), there's certainly an audience for the film.  Problem is that Black can't afford another so-so at the box office.  He's under a tremendous amount of pressure to bounce back with IM3, so he's all in for the big payoff.  Fingers crossed he wins.  He deserves it because he just gets it, and he strives to deliver the best of himself.  He's a writer worthy of your admiration.  Keep rooting for the guy, and if all goes well with IM3, you might just get to see The Nice Guys on the big screen, too.  Hella sweet.

All of that would be wonderful for me! More Black is always great, even with his misogynist tendencies.

Interesting comment.  I don't think I'd categorize him as a misogynist.  I believe he writes what he knows, and what interests him.  He tries to do that in a way that is honest and compelling.  Let's face it, he lives in LA.  Much of what he writes is colored by his love/hate relationship with Hollywood.  His work is ever self-reflective.  Perhaps his writer's Kryptonite is women.  Maybe that's a grey area for him.  Not that he hates women, just that he doesn't have a firm grasp of where women fit in his own big picture.

I remember reading a script by him written during his heyday that had a witty line of dialog, which he then bragged about in the exposition, referencing how many millions he'd get for writing it.  His situation now illustrates that being king of the world doesn't last forever (unless you're Jim Cameron).  But he is a really gifted writer, and a totally unique voice, especially now.  KKBB was great, and people obviously still believe in him.  I'd love to see him make another flick.
