The Rub's - History of Hip Hop

The Rub is a Brooklyn based classics and hip-hop party. Anyway, they've been doing a series of weekly mix-tapes on Brooklyn radio in which they are highlight the best hip hop songs by year. As the early 90's were the formative years of my life, this series is bringing back some major nostalgia. Anyway, I urge you to check out the series here: http://www.itstherub.com/radio.htm#history

I gotta say 1994 is my jam:

So the mixes are only available as a single mp3? Is there a way to get it with the tracks separated?

Jesus that looks almost EXACTLY like a couple mixtapes I'd bring with me on the school bus.

I'm all over this. Thanks.

Thanks, this is great. I'm loving 1979.
This reminds me. I've been wondering why the hipster scene is into rap. Is it them being partly ironic or do they really enjoy it? Why rap and not country or soul or something?

I am forever in your debt, Diva. Good God, this is wonderful.

I'm about to fill up my MP3 player with some of these mixes.

EDIT: If you are looking for some more nice mixtape MP3s (for free!), head over to http://www.mickboogie.com. The Notorious B.I.G. one (Unbelievable) is fantastic.

It's fascinating to hear how quickly hip hop evolved. I expected the 1980 mix to sound pretty much the same as the 1979 mix (especially since all those '79 tracks must have come from the last quarter of that year), but the 1980 tracks sound very different, and much more advanced. Especially that Spoonie G/Treacherous 3 track, that's just amazing for 1980.
