Shiren the Wanderer- kill me now

I will say that I've never played a game quite like Shiren the Wanderer for the Nintendo DS.

The super nintendo graphics are extremely fun and the game plays easily enough.

Press the "A" button to attack or go into your inventory to throw some magic or arrows or freakin' anything at your opponent.

the other main objective is to just RUN to the stairs.

I really don't know what I'm doing other than Wandering around.. but once you accept your fate, that exploring and dying go hand in hand, This game has got some extreme charm.

Not only is the game brutal, you die and lose everything.. its kinda fun to run around naked and regain your fortune and items.

Any second can lead to death, which is part of the charm.

I played for the first time last night and was blinded by a Bitch lady. I finally restored my sight and explored quite a while before dying on the 6th level by being turned into a riceball and getting smacked to death by a kittycat.

Today I turned on my game and started with nothing only to go out into the woods and find Bitch Lady's Sister. She apologized for her sister blinding me and compensated me by BLINDING ME AGAIN!

This absolute insane warped since of humor that is possessed by the NPGs makes this game too much fun.

If you know friend codes you can connect online and be "saved" or rescued by a friend.

If you have a love of the absurd, Shiren is a must own game.

Reviews of this game make it sound absolutely insane.

Hey neaux, didn't you start the Etrian Odyssey thread too? You are one masochistic bastard. Still, I almost picked this up last week myself, and now that there's at least one person around to rescue my sorry ass...

Yes. Etrian Odyssey was great.. I actually beat the main game, but the bonus levels were impossible, because you couldn't level your characters past level 50.

Waiting for Etrian Odyssey 2 to drop this summer.

anyway my friend code is 3995-6327-8891

I keep dying in this game and it keeps getting better.

You know that Bitch lady that blinded me?
She offered to join my party.

I accepted.

and she blinded me again.

She also joined my party and kicks everyone's ass for me. Unfortunately I died again.

I started again and she was waiting for me outside the village to continue being my Muscle. I love this game.

holy crap... I finally beat the main adventure last night. Why am I posting this? Because it feels like I actually accomplished something.

Lots of new caves to explore now... this game broke my soul.

Just picked this up this afternoon. So... my little dude is on the fifth floor, just after Bamboo Village. Did I miss some place to store my items besides Canyon Hamlet? Do you literally start at Level One, Floor One every time you play?

So terrified of dying. Or turning off my DS.

You are supposed to die. Its ok to lose your items. Really the best way to play is to just go as far as you can get for about 100 times. At that point you'll realize what places to store specific items.

The game is made to be beat starting out with nothing. The only few things worth storing are Rice Balls, Plating and Earth scrolls (to beef up your weapons and shields), actually all scrolls are good, and an occasional pickaxe.

Its sort of repetitive, but really addictive the further you get.

Bought this yesterday. It is PUNISHING me for this. Must have made about 20 runs at it and still can't get to the second town with a warehouse. I was like one screen away from getting there, then a mage kept blasting me across the entire level and finally into a pack of other monsters who raped me severely. Lost a master sword and some other weapons I got upgraded on the way. It's a bummer, but I'm quickly learning not to get too attached to anything I pick up.

When do you get access to one of those jars that sends stuff back to your warehouse? Though it's also going to be a bummer when I do a mad dash to get to one of those and then die 20 seconds later and lose it.

Most of these monsters are doing like 1/3 of my life per hit

Hopefully you have some party members by now. There are 3 extra players that will join your party, the further you get.

Rather than answering a million questions: This is your best source.

Shiren Wiki

Biggest hint in the game. Every time you start. Talk to the bartender to get a rice ball. Store that rice ball. Play a puzzle in the first town. Solve it. Then go back to the bartender and get another rice ball. Repeat.

You can store a lot of rice balls. After that, starting taking 2 per quest on your journey.
