It's hard to be sad for a man whose name is a household word and who lived in Sri Lanka for the past 50 years scuba diving and being smart before dying at ninety. But it's still strange to think of Arthur Clarke as part of the past.

I'm glad he outlived Heinlein.

Clarke had a great run... maybe one of these days I'll read the last two Odyssey books.

RIP

I haven't read anything by him for years, but Christ, what an icon. RIP indeed.

Bradbury's still kicking. When he goes, that'll be it for the giants.

Harlan Ellison is still around. Love him or hate him, you can't ignore he's a giant of the genre as well. But when he and Bradbury pass that'll really be it for recognizable name science fiction authors.
