The Vega Brothers a GO?

Don't know the validity of this but Garth posted this at DH:

The Vega Brothers: Long ago it was thought the two brother characters who appeared in separate Tarantino flicks would come together in one movie - now could it be finally going ahead? 'Tim' has the details: "I auditioned for a role and got chatting with the lovely casting director who indicated the "vega brothers" movie is going ahead. She says it will be huge because its a huge ensemble, and says it's going to have Travolta in it, Madsen, Samuel L. Jackson and all the Tarantino regulars - but a lot of roles available for young women, because it's set in bars and nightclubs, hence, strippers, barmaids, waitress roles will be available. Tarantino wants to do it later this year. I would so love to be a part of this but she said nearly every male role is a 'name'".

Personally I'd love to see this come together but I think Tarantino is too busy inbetween finishing Kill Bill and writing his War Epic and also following the next American Idol that he won't do this...

I hope to Nyarlathotep that it is true. This is basically my dream movie.

Bullshit.

This is not happening.

This is not happening.

'Nuff said.

Long awaited "Vega Brothers" update

In our interview today with Frank Whaley, the actor said he's very open to returning for the "Pulp Fiction" prequel. Meantime, Zap2it.com indicate it's actually going to be going ahead soon - Tarantino reportedly hopes to finish the script early next year and begin shooting in the summer. One source said, "Expect the charm to come from Travolta and the crazy stuff from Madsen. It will follow the pair’s exploits around a club they own, set in the late 1980s. There is also an argument between the brothers over a woman."

It stinks of bullshit in here.
A man can dream, though. This would be so very, very cool.

Has anybody stopped to think that both Madsen and Travolta are both noticeably much older than when we last saw their characters alive, to about the tune of 10+ years and about 40lbs. apiece? Could be a good set up for "Vic and Vince Are Dead" in which are antiheroes wax philosophical in the afterlife...or maybe not.
Anything with Madsen in it guarantees my ass in the seat.

I don't care if he gains 100lbs and all his hair migrates to his back, he's still da sexy.

Put me down for "not buying it." But then you can also put down for "I wish this was true."

If only this was a story about the Spanish STREET FIGHTER II character finding out Zangief is his long lost brother.

This is true - there is no denying that but just to see Quentin to return to this world again would be fantastic and I would be able to set aside that they are much older

It won't be right without Lawrence Tierney

The really crazy thing is that the IMDB had a page for this movie almost a YEAR ago. Of course, they're not the most reliable source imaginable. Do I think this is going to happen? No. Do I want it to happen? No. Make a sequel to PULP FICTION that follows Sam Jackson around "like Kane from Kung-Fu." We don't need no Vega bros movie.

If bullets can pass though Jules and Vince when fired from Seinfeld's hand canon, then I'm pretty sure its safe to have Vince and Tooth Pic Vic aged ten years in a prequel set ten years before Pulp.

This is the movie universe, remember? I'm surprised the fan fiction doesn't exist yet.

Juicy, Junior, Juicy.

Yeah - I read somewhere that Tarantino claimed that all the characters in Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown co-exist in the same universe.

Actually, he said that he had different universes. PULP FICTION, RESERVOIR DOGS and TRUE ROMANCE take place in the "real" Quentin universe.

His script for NATURAL BORN KILLERS (quite different than the finished product) and the up-coming KILL BILL are from his "movie-Universe"...which is considerably crazier than the "real" universe.

And Jackie Brown is Elmore Leonard's Universe.

I stand corrected - I guess what I read was it possible for his "universes" to intertwine
post #19 of 35
Yeah, he said that his NBK script, Kill Bill, and From Dusk Till Dawn are movies that his other characters would go see. I thought that was a pretty clever way of looking at it. And the idea of Jules and Vincent sitting in the theatre watching FDTD is pretty funny.
Yes.
He probably changed his mind by now but at some point QT said Vic and Vincent weren't related at all. The only reason they share the same last name is because they're suppose to represent the same type of person.

Also, did you know that Michael Madsen was suppose to play Vincent Vega except he couldn't get out of his Wyatt Earp contract. So QT played a game of Welcome Back Kotter with John Travolta and cast him instead.
So is Dusk till Dawn in the universe of Pulp Fiction and Reservoir dogs? I see a big kahuna burger bag in FDTD.

To add more confusion to the mix, the "QT Universe" connection between Reservoir Dogs and True Romance was essentially severed when Tony Scott decided to go a different way with the ending for True Romance.

Since Clarence was originally to die at the end of Tarantino's script, Alabama was to later become a cohort of Mr. White from Reservoir Dogs. Her name is mentioned in a conversation between Joe Cabot and Mr. White. But since Clarence survived and he and Alabama lived happily ever after, there is no longer a link between the two movies.

I think the link is still there between "Dogs" and "True Romance." When Mr. White is talking to Joe he mentions that he used to work with Alabama. So you figure Alabama seperates from Mr. White, goes to Detroit and hooks up with Drexel, and then finds herself married to Clarence.

Bama was a good little thief.

I think that she probably met up with him after the events of True Romance as she was a bumpkin from Florida prior. Also in the NEW DVD of True Romance they do show the alternate ending so it is on film.

Here is the AICN story which explains the QT Universe:

<a href="http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=9830" target="_blank">http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=9830</a>

You know, if this film had been made right after Pulp Fiction I would have been so there for it. But now, I am more interested in what else QT can do.

I have been a big advocate on the boards to see Tarantino's version of Casino Royale. He said at the time he was trying to get the rights to the book he wanted to do a period Bond.

I think it would also be interesting to see his take on Modesty Blaise which he was attached to at one time. Plus, there is always his adaptation of Elmore Leanord's western Forty Lashes Plus One.

And, I really want him to go thru and film his World War 2 men-on-a-mission film. I think the name is suppossed to be Inglorious Bastards.

There is just too much out there for him to do to worry about trying to get Travolta and Madsen (easily on of the coolest badasses on the planet) back into 1980's shape and looks. And, it is not that I don't want him to return to that Universe. I just want something more original there.

Well those are my thoughts and notes.

I agree. I think Tarantino fans are lucky, because while all of his films have a similar style so far, every one of them is vastly different. I like the fact that he's continuing to go in new directions, and I believe his "man-on-a-mission/Sam Fuller" movie will be next (he's said so many times, but that doesn't mean anything). I just hope the man doesn't take a ten year vacation after KILL BILL.

From what I have heard, Tarantino's WWII movie Inglorious Bastards starts filming later this year for a release sometime next year (most likely the fall season.)

according to the main page it is still a possibility
post #31 of 35
Meh.
Well.....i'd see it. As for the age thing, slap that wig on jackson and he'll pretty much look the same as he did in 94. Get Travolta to lose weight like he did with Swordfish and he'll look fine. Neither of them have aged dramatically since pulp fiction.
Jackson probably wouldn't be in it. It's supposedly about Madsen and Travolta's characters when they owned a nightclub in Amsterdam. Before they were both killed in other movies, obviously.
I notice Madsen has aged pretty dramatically. His necks has gotten really loose, for one thing.

I'd be happy to see Vega brothers as a novel or even an unproduced script. Animation is probably as bad an idea as that Bruce Lee thing they're doing. Lose the charm and most of the attraction. At least in written form you have that by association with the original films and by your imagination.
If this movie ever happened, it would be cool.

Last I read, Tarantino was following up Kill Bill with a WWII film called Inglorious Bastards with Madsen in the title role and Bo Svenson co-starring.

More info on that film <a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&cf=prev&id=1808404205&intl=us" target="_blank">here</a>.
