Lyrics your mind will never remember

So I was humming Tom Waits' "Martha" the other day to myself when I realized that even though I've heard the song countless times there are always a few lines I can't remember or juxtapose with other lines. This led me to realize that, while I'm pretty good at memorizing lyrics on the whole, there are songs that I hear on a constant basis that I just can't get the words down to. Years ago some friends and I got a band together that I sung for and one of our warm-up songs was "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Almost every time we played it I would sing the last verse second and the second verse last. To this day unless I'm listening to the song I will confuse the two. Some tunes I can bark out line after two or three times after first hearing them, most of the time I need to hear a song many times before I can memorize them. These two songs (and a few handful more) I don't think I will ever be able to get down for one reason or another.

Does anyone else experience anything like this?

I'm as huge a Springsteen fan as anyone I know, and I always get the order to the verses of "Born to Run" wrong.

"Waiting for the Man" by Velvet Underground. I keep singing "56 dollars in my hand" instead of "26 dollars in my hand." Don't know why that is, it's my favorite song by the Velvets.

I've listened to Radiohead's "Let Down" hundreds of times, and I know the lyrics, but at any one point while listening I'm incapable of remembering what comes next.

I have listened to the album a bunch the past couple of days, but for the life of me, for some reason, my brain translates the lyric in 'Paper Planes' from "Some some some some I murder" to "Some some some some I get over." I have no idea why.

See, I actually know all of those words, but fuck if I can tell you half of what Stipe sings on all of Murmur. Of course, he's hard pressed to remember the words as well.

I can never remember the order of most Stone Temple Pilots songs, it always feels like the verses and lyrics are rearranged with every listen. Weird.
