Battlefield: Bad Company - Page 3

Seconding BillyG's question, though I'm pretty sure it'll be in stores today. I was up way too late just playing the demo again last night; what's the full game going to do to my already tenuously-thin sleeping schedule? A 4 year old + a 4 month old + late night Xbox = sleep deprivation [Stilgar]the likes of which even God has never seen[/Stilgar]
Great Review Alex, you know my question. Pc?
It should have been in stores yesterday, actually. Also, I contacted the winners of the contest... not sure if either of them was anyone here, but make sure to check your email before you go pick it up.

If you found the multiplayer of the demo addictive, just think what it's like when you're got awards and medals and the maps keep cycling from one to the next. I forgot to mention in the review but the multiplayer levels have a nice variety to them (and are all based on parts of the single player game) and sometimes the smaller ones are more frantic than the larger, vehicle based maps.

I had a fucking amazing match late last night where I played defense as a specialist. Another guy on my squad was a specialist as well and we holed up near a gold box, throwing health kits around and working together to alternately shoot down everyone coming at us (from all directions!) and heal each other. We absolutely decimated the other team in a ridiculously short amount of time, and I ended up a kill ratio of something like 22-3. So much fun.

But no PC, Tati, sorry. This one's just for the consoles.

Great review Alex! The coverage on this one has been great, and as such I drool at the thought of getting to play it with some of you guys. I just so happen to have some gift cards that will help me get my hands on it... I went with the PS3 for Call of Duty 4, but I'm thinking I'll be going the 360 route for this one. Hopefully when I do I can get in on some chewer matches from time to time and marvel at my ineptitude (or maybe I'll rock, who knows!).

Not me sadly. I think it'll be one that I'm just going to rent off GameFly in a month or two.
AWESOME game...very quick to learn and everyone can find their niche.

Hoping to see some of the Chewers online tonight.
Just got my copy a few minutes ago and am ready to dig into the single player for awhile. Ready for some multiplayer at any time though, so send me an invite if anyone wants to go to war.
I probably wont be picking this up till i finish Ninja Gaiden 2. If im left with the choice of either playing Bad Company Or Ninja Gaiden, Bad Company will win everytime.
Haha, we killed the servers. Can't get into a game. Oh well, single player is pretty good.
Huh, backed out to dashboard, relaunched the game, and multiplayer works now. Weird.
I picked up a copy this morning for the 360. Hopefully I'll have some time over the next few days to check it out and see some of you guys online.

Are there any differences performance-wise between the 360 and PS3 versions, or are they more or less both reasonably awesome?
I don't know if it was Xbox Live or the EA servers or what, but getting into a match was an exercise in frustration last night. When I could connect and stay connected, it was greatness. Also, I'm worried that I might be posting again soon in the Dead 360 thread... got an unreadable disc error. I don't really want to move on to my fifth goddamn Xbox.

That's what makes this game so much fun. It allows you to either go Rambo-style, or you can work as a team, and really get things done. I love sneaking into the attackers' base, and go on a killing spree, but coordinating attacks or defense with players who know how to play the game is just as fun.

Yeah, the servers seemed to be messed up last night. Probably because of the massive influx of gamers coming in, but I thought that the beta was supposed to take care of crap like that? A little annoying. Jon and I got in a few matches together after a lot of trying, and did a pretty good job... except for that last match on Oasis. Man, we got raped.

What also sucks- over the weekend when no one had the game I was ranked #15 in the world. Now I'm something like 4,000. Ah well.
Hey, Alex (or anyone else that's played) I was looking thru your achievements, and I noticed one for using a parachute.

In Modern Combat, you could deploy your chute anytime, anywhere. I couldn't find that in the demo, is it available always (like when jumping off a roof or anything) or is it only used on special occasions?

(And dont tell me it a simple button click that I missed the whole time I played the Demo!)
Well the achievement is called Darwin's Parachute... so I'm assuming it's gotta just be a 3 second skydive from a helicopter. Haven't tried it yet, though.
That last game was something to forget.

Lots of great players out there and (as always) some extremely selfish players who point hoard and leave it up to the rest to actually accomplish the mission.
The scummiest was that guy who shot the guy ON HIS OWN TEAM to get into the artillery gun. Douchebag.

Catchy name! Now I get it.

The funny thing is that everyone does that at one point or another, trying to control that beast, you're bound to press the wrong button, and it's a long, embarrassing drop down.

Happened to my little brother in the demo. Soon as he spawned back to life he took a knife to him.

It happened to another guy on his team also. Unfortunately for the guy who killed his own teammate, another guy on his team was right by the artillery. In a tank. Blew him the fuck up.
I went and swapped out my 360 version for the PS3 version, but only because a friend of mine decided to pick it up too... for the PS3 because that's the one he has. I never thought I'd waffle so much about which console to get a game for. Oh well. Still, I haven't even opened it yet and may not even get around to it tonight. I REALLY want to blow some stuff up...

It's too bad to hear that some folks out there have been mauling their own teams. That's pretty lame. But at least it seems like they get what they deserve, at least some of the time. Traitor-Death-By-Tank should be an achievement.
Wow, no one around me has it. The two Best Buys near me did not get their shipment, and Gamestops pulled the "you didn't reserve, I don't have it." My buddy works at Target, and they didn't get it either for some reason, but he said their truck was in last night. Hopefully it shows up this weekend.
I admit, the levels make this game. Each one finds a way to make each class fit in with it perfectly. If you want to snipe, theres awesome spots, go in with a M16 and there is an excellent route, be sneaky with a shotgun or SMG and there is a quiet back alley. Except for the level with the ruins. No matter what, if your on the offense you get dominated. The awards and medals dont mean much to me (wihout the COD4 wailing guitar how could they?) but i love going after players dog tags. The lack of full team voice chat definatly keeps this game from reaching godlike status, but itll do till GOW2.
Conquest mode was released as a free download today. A bunch of guys I work with and I have been having a blast with this game, but I'm looking forward to a more classic BF experience.

Anyone else still playing this game?
I'm going to borrow it off a friend after he's finished the single player soon, but i've just picked up a whole bunch of other games that simply need playing first.
I'm on it constantly this week. If anyone has the ps3 version you can find me at the name awacs_cat.
Really fun game, too bad my Xbox Live is all fucked up. I'm not a huge fan of the campaign, but the multiplayer is fantastic.
Conquest mode is fantastic. I didn't know that they had completely retooled the levels for the mode- it took me a while to realize which one I was on simply because of the daylight changes. Great, great, stuff.

I felt it was disappointing. No one played cohesively and it just ended up being a sprawled out team death match. It would be surprising if anyone called Conquest focused...it's anything but. Sticking with Gold Rush.

10 Games that are better than Battlefield: Bad Company

10) Bible Adventures
9) Revolution X
8) Shaq Fu
7) Railroad Tycoon
6) MTV's Celebrity Deathmatch
5.. ah fuck this. this fucking worthless hunk of cocksucker shit spinning in my console isn't even worth a list. The online might be the greatest thing since potato chips, but if the single player was a living entity I would curb stomp it's fucking bullshit broken whore ass until it no longer resembled anything that ever existed. This thing makes me wish I was playing fucking Monster Madness or something instead.

FUCK. THIS. PIECE. OF. SHIT.
Sorry that you are lonely and don't have friends to enjoy the online mode with. As for the little bit of single player I've played, it's no worse than any Halo game.
Wow, really? The single player's pretty fun. Not the greatest thing in the world, no, but way better than most shooters.

Just did an interview with the producer about some new DLC coming. Nothing earth-shattering, but cool nonetheless.
The one guy I know who owns this says the single player's pretty fun?

Is it the combat physics and game engine? (battlefield's hit detection is very funky) and the difficulty in finding out who the fuck is shooting you?

If so, that's been battlefield games since BF2 and I can live with that.
Little bit hard to see where people are shooting at you from, but the hit detection isn't bad. Course, you're going to be blowing the hell out of everything so it won't even matter...

Details on the new map pack! http://chud.com/articles/articles/16...ING/Page1.html

A-Riv, the last image in your recent battlefront article isn't working for me (blank box with an "x" in it).

Sorry Alex, what I meant was - i'm aware of Battlefield's engine and the hit detection and difficulty spotting people, I actually like it - What I meant by my statement was that "is that what people have a problem with?"

Fixed! Shot of "Crossroads".

I guess? I never heard of someone being as pissed as Trejo. The game could do with some co-op and the levels could be a little tighter, but the multiplayer is still the goods.
The multiplayer is the [nunziata] tits. I'll cock punch any of you who don't agree. [/nunziata].

Sequel's on the way, as well as downloadable title- http://chud.com/articles/articles/18...CED/Page1.html

Updated the article with the fantastic Battlefield 1943 trailer. Till I saw that I didn't think another WWII shooter would ever catch my interest...
Eh..no PC? So we are pretty much stuck with an aging BF:2 (still fun) and Bf 2142 (Which is kind of lame)
Actually, it is! Probably should have mentioned that... whoops. But the press release has 360, PS3 and PC listed for both titles.
oh so it is PC! sweet :-) SO any news on BF: Heroes?
I played the beta a bunch, and it's pretty fun. Can't complain for a free, browser-based shooter. I think they're in public beta right now... try signing up here- http://www.battlefield-heroes.com/
post #145 of 150
Watching that Battlefield 1943 trailer brought all kinds of nostalgia for the original Battlefield 1942 Wake Island demo flooding back. Back then, I could play that one map for days at a time. Was anyone else an artillery nut? I used to just jump istraight into a shore battery and try to sink the aircraft carrier. For the entire round. Good - no, GREAT - times.

If it captures that magic even a little bit, I'm sold.

Bad Company 2 should be fun. I really came around on the multiplayer aspect of Bad Company. I may have to dive back in now.
That BF: 1943 will be my life for at least a few months once it hits!
Definite day one purchase on Bad Company 2 as long as they do away with that 4 man squad thing. I loved the online, but i spent way too much time cussing at team mates who couldn't even hear me.

I'm in the same boat! i've been wanting an updated version of 1942 for a long while. As someone who as played all the BF games (PC) BF: Vietnam was the best.
The 1942 mod for Battlefield Vietnam was fantastic.

Then again, i've been so against the Battlefield series since they keep gimping the engine to the point of stupidity.

1942 and Vietnam play beautifully compared to the newer incarnations.
I've been playing this online for the past few days. A year behind the rest and I just never got around to playing it online. I'm having a fun time, if I could only figure out how to fly that damn helicopter.
