Guilty Pleasures - Page 2

I pride myself on a very high standard of music elitism, but every once in a while, "steal my sunshine" by Len gets listened to.

I'm with ya Scott, but I don't feel one bit guilty. I have all three albums, and saw them live (they were awesome).

My guilty pleasure? One of the My Chemical Romance Albums. And Sevendust. The bizarre twist is that my dad got me into them. He also likes Lamb of God, but I just can't do the cookie monster vocals. I would guiltily like Atreya more if they ditched their screamer.

I've said once, I'll say it again: Bananarama had some catchy-ass songs.

Now if only iTunes would have the real version of Cruel Summer up and running. Come on, Jobs!

80's pop should not be a guilty pleasure. Almost everyone likes that stuff on some level.

Also, I agree that Madonna was without fault, but only through Ray of Light.
Everything this decade has been a middle age embarrassment.
Much like U2 and REM.

"Music" and "What It Feels Like For A Girl" are great songs. Her LAST great songs.

I believe the thread about this got deleted, but My Chemical Romance is at least very aware of what kind of genre they've chosen, and has insane amounts of fun with it. I just can't hate a band that has a song called You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison.

If we're talking pre-Next Sevendust, you're covered. If we're talking post-Next, I may have to drag out the Body Snatchers JPEG. Either way, though, Lajon has one of the strongest underrated voices in rock.

Gotta say, though, you haven't heard nearly enough metal if you think Lamb of God has cookie monster vocals.

As a complete fanboy for Amadeus, Lachrymosa pretty much required I buy the damn thing. I was shocked when I discovered I didn't hate the rest of the album. My long-standing crush on Amy Lee had a lot to do with it, but her voice has always been great, and the music just makes the inner goth I thought I'd buried a long time ago very happy.

Honest to god, that album, "You Can't Stop the Bum Rush", has no right to be nearly as fun as it is. It's such a weird, eclectic mix of music that it's almost irresistible. And what really pushes it over the top is some of the guests the album features: who can deny the mighty might of Biz Markie and the mad guitar licks of Poison's own C.C. DeVille? No one, that's who.

I once karaoke'd to "Borderline". My friends thought it was great, but I was a bit nervous since some of the rednecks in the bar seemed to be a bit upset about it.

I have to let my love for Rhapsody of Fire, the symphonic power metal band from Italy, be known. I'm even a little embarrassed for typing out "symphonic power metal." But they are so much fun and so earnest in what they do. They even had Christopher Lee tell a story and sing in one of their songs! I realize the cheesiness of it but I always get hooked on their epic choruses and guitar solos.
The band sucks ass, but I'd pay to listen to Christopher Lee read the Ikea catalog, and hearing him go bombastic in the name of (shitty) metal gladdens the heart.

I prefer the Police's remake of "Don't Stand So Close To Me" over the original.

Yes, I feel guilty, or I'm supposed to, anyway.

Crocodile Rock by Elton John.

When Every Breath You Take plays on the radio nowadays...I kinda miss the Diddy version.

Also, this is a despicable trait:

That album is better than sex. Now, we won't talk about the inexplicable copies of Bon Jovi's "Runaway," Billy Squire's "Rock Me Tonight" and Whitesnake's "Slow and Easy" on my ipod...
You have nothing to feel guilty about for Billy Squire. And don't let anyone tell you any different.
Some might feel guilty for this, but I really like Bright Eyes. "Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground" is still a favorite of mine and was the one and only album of non-mainstream music of mine that all of my friends enjoyed.

Hey, if Zep hadn't called it quits, we wouldn't have needed Sykes-era Whitesnake.

But they did.

I've have mentioned this in the two threads started by Name_user_subject_location_douchewhatever, but, why continue that atrocity?

Audioslave.

Yeah, it's beneath the talents of Cornell and Rage, but, Cornell still has the voice of God, and the melodies he's tried to shoehorn on that band are solid, if only unfortunate that they just can't pull it off with the proper emotion. The albums as wholes aren't great, but there's usually 4 or 5 tracks that work like a voodoo charm.

Also, Collateral made Shadow On The Sun forever cool in my book.

I heard my greatest sin today - "Girlschool" by Britny Fox. Makes me wish I was wearing a Members Only jacket and driving around in my black Trans Am with the t-top in full effect.

Catherine Wheel also..a band with great melodies, but terrible lyrics. They are also both unknown and unfashionable.

"Fuel of fathers' sweat
Sweet like baby's breath
Strong like superman
Stinking up the streets I am"

&

"And they'd feel good
And I'd feel good
We'd all feel good
That would be so good"

It's a mix of awe and shuddering when the hooks come in and you listen closer, to realize their vocalist is singing about strawberry jism or fat men shifting their weight upon you.

But they are partially responsible for Coldplay.
Static-X are fucking terrible, but I love them oh so much.
Especially their first 2 albums.
Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" - so trite, so trashy, so fun.

When alone, I sometimes listen to the first Panic at the Disco album.

And, if that wasn't bad enough...I downloaded their new album.

I hope the pretty ladies have sufficiently distracted you.

Always dug Catherine Wheel, but mainly for their sound. Never paid attention to the lyrics all that much.

Reminds me of when I bought Duran Duran's Seven and the Ragged Tiger for $3 a few years back. When I actually read the lyrics included, I was stunned at how nonsensical they were.

(Guess they'd also fit in this category, huh?)
I recently bought a used Cranberries CD. They are a watered down rudimentary version of other good bands, but for some reason they appeal to me. It's the kind of CD that will get pulled out of the stack when I'm way fucking drunk.

Did someone seriously mention Catherine Wheel in this thread, just because they have some simple lyrics?

You know, besides their affiliation with Pete Wentz, I haven't really heard many reasons why someone wouldn't like the music. And I've never accepted "whiny vocals" as an excuse.

That's right, I like Panic at the Disco too.
I'm pretty sure I confessed this the last time we did a guilty pleasures thread, but I like "How To Save A Life" by the Fray. I have no excuses for this, only apologies.
"99 Problems", if only because I get that part with the "Year's 94 and my trunk is raw, in my rear view mirror is the mutha fuckin' law" stuck in my head, and just have to sing that whole verse. In an English accent. Try it sometime, it's fun.
Is Justin Timberlake still considered a guilty pleasure?
No.

I own the first album too. Big freakin deal.

Personally I look forward to when song titles aren't so goddamn long. It just gets ridiculous at times.

"Worthless", the song from the Brave Little Toaster where the cars are singing about being loved once and forgotten and now embrace their own destruction with relief.

Fuck you.
