The Proposition is great Alex, you should definitely check it out when you get the chance. I have no doubt Hillcoat will strike the right balance between the bleak surroundings and the sense of hope held by the protagonists. It'll be interesting to see what he does with Mortenson and Pearce, though. I've tried to avoid too many articles about the movie and this is the first one I've seen that says they're both in it.

Any idea who Pearce is playing?

Awesome, glad to hear it. I'm definitely going to have to check it out.

No idea what Pearce's role is! I'm hoping he's not some main mutant baddie... but we'll see...

If not, I can only think of one other adult male in the movie with any dialogue, and that would be a pretty small role.

Weren't there two? SPOILER: The guy that steals the cart, then the man who 'adopts' the boy at the end?

Someone really needs to get a good one-on-one interview with the director or writer so we can get a better feel for how closely they are sticking to the book and the level of respect they are giving to it. I'm nervous about the multitude of ways that this story and its message could get fucked up beyond recognition.

My mistake, it's been about a year since I read it and the first one you mentioned totally slipped my mind. Now that you've mentioned it though, I could easily picture Pearce in that role.

eta: I know it's early, but is there word on any possible Nick Cave involvement in this?

That was my initial pairing for him when I read the article. Not sure about the latter, though. Have there been any other names hovering about? I don't see anything new on IMDB as of yet.

Also, Cave being involved in this would be fantastic. I listened to some of the soundtrack for The Proposition this morning, and it still holds up as a pretty great turn from Cave in spite of my dislike for his last couple of albums with the Seeds. This excludes Grinderman, obviously, since that reeks more of a harder-edged dirty Birthday Party than Cave and the Seeds.

Well I feel like I've been living in a cave, because this came out of nowhere for me. Mortensen, Theron, and Pearce in a Cormac McCarthy adaptation directed by the guy that did The Proposition, coming out this year no less? That just made my day right thre.

There are actually three: The thief, the man at the end, and the man who the father shoots in the head.

Actually, there were four, including Ely the old man. Not age appropriate for Pearce, but still.

You are right. I was thinking more in the line of what Pearce could play, which you mentioned.
